I had a wonderful afternoon at @thestitchfestival in my latest make which is another blouse hack of the @sewoveritlondon Isla Dress. You may remember I made a wearable toile of this at the end of last year and then made a couple more tweaks to the pattern with help from @julieclairej before I cut into my precious @libertyfabrics tana lawn in my all-time favourite colour teal. As with the previous one, I added piping rather than a ruffle to the shoulder yokes which gives a lovely, vintagey look. Here are my creative goals for 2024. My main goal is to use patterns and fabrics that I already own. With that in mind I’ve chosen these 9 projects. 1) #soiroxyjumper in a knit a friend passed on to me. This should be a quick make as I’ve made the pattern a couple of times already. 2) #DDfumeterre using a lovely weight cotton from the same friend. To my utter delight I just discovered I’ve traced off the pattern already so I just need to get cutting. 3) #bhlmarie with the pie crust collar. This fabric is leftover from a previous project. I have enough to make the dress but swaying towards making the blouse. 4)#soiisladress is probably one of the first patterns I bought but I’ve never made it. This gorgeous viscose is something I purchased an age ago too for a project that never happened. Let’s make this happen this year. 5) My wild card is another beautiful fabric from that generous friend. I don’t know what to make but I know I need this fabric in my wardrobe. 6) Complete my #habanasweater ready for spring, hopefully. 7) #soiellablouse using a polyester another friend gave me. I plan to wear it layered over other things. 8) A constant feature on my #makenine - the #marabralette must happen this year, surely! 9) Finally, I want to complete this jumper for hubby. I’m nearly there👗. I have been struggling with the zipper for a good two hours and unpicked it twice🤯. There is still a little pucker at the top but that will disappear with a few hand stitches. Also, the zip ended up on the wrong side, but I don’t mind that. Only getting round to taking photos now but I’ve been wearing this lovely dress for a couple of months now. This is one of this year’s PDF patterns by @sewoveritlondon and I shamelessly copied the version Lisa made in one of her makes videos. This dress was a step up from my usual makes- it has a panelled fluted skirt, side zip, front button placket, frills at the shoulders and a gathered cuff. Despite all that it came together quite quickly- except for one problem... the sleeves! They are the tightest, smallest sleeves I’ve ever made!! I couldn’t get it off the first time I put it on- and my poor husband had the attractive job of pulling it over my head. I’ve let out the seems at the under arm and the side of the sleeves as much as I can and it’s wearable but next time I will definitely be doing a full bicep adjustment! Swipe across to see the details on this lovely pattern. At first I wasn’t sure how the fluted skirt would suit me- being more used to an a-like shape but I think it’s very flattering on the bum. I feel very 1940s in my new @sewoveritlondon Isla Dress - just missing some victory rolls in my hair! The fabric is a rayon from SOI called ‘loved up’ and is super floaty and light. I decided to omit the yoke frill and instead go for some piping from @higgsandhiggs and the lovely pearly cerise buttons are from @sewisfaction I cut a size 13 and the fit is pretty spot on. I also used only a 16” zip and think it’s more than long enough (the pattern calls for a 22” one but I think that would have been far too long personally). I really love this pattern and definitely plan to make more for the summer. My final make of 2019 is complete - and I’m ending on a hacking high! 🎉✂️🧵👚 I love love love this blouse even though it was supposed to ‘just’ be a wearable toile! With lots of help and expert guidance from the fabulous @julieclairej I’ve taken the bodice of the @sewoveritlondon Isla Dress and hacked it into a fitted blouse. We added length, extended the waist darts front and back and added a small amount of ease at the sides. The fabric is a viscose linen called ‘coral illusion’ from @sewoveritlondon in a pale mint green with a retro print on. I added black piping, black buttons and black buttonholes to make the print ‘pop’ more and also to add a slightly vintage feel. Apart from adding another inch to the hem I think this toile is pretty spot on (but I’ll wait for the next SOI Masterclass in January for Julie to cast her expert eye over it!). I have some beautiful but pricey Liberty lawn for the ‘real’ one so glad I toiled first on this hack. I made this a while ago but never shared. It's a mash up of the #soiisladress bodice and #sewinglyra skirt. I loved the look of the Isla dress but didn't think the skirt would work for me so decided to try this hack. I mistakenly cut the sleeves a little too small and the neck line needs a good press but otherwise it's turned out ok. I also added waist ties. Here is my Isla dress❤️👗❤️ and I love it. I’ve been having buttonhole anxiety😑 and procrastinated for days...I was so afraid to get the placement wrong and ruin the dress🙃, but eventually I took the plunge and did it. I’m so proud😊. I love everything about the dress, the fabric, how it falls, the shape... everything😍. The bodice is size 8 graded to 10 at the waist. I shortened the skirt by 4 cm at the bottom and I got the zip on the right side🙈 but I don’t mind that. Otherwise it is according to the pattern. I am unfortunately back to the normality of work tomorrow and although in the two weeks I've been off I could barely tell you what I've done from one day to the next, one thing I have been doing lots of is planning my sewing for this year and one of my makes to come out of that is this Isla Dress from @sewoveritlondon Looking for a casual vintage style dress that I could wear in and outside work, the short sleeve version of this was perfect! I made this in a size 10 with no alterations which fits great! It has an invisible side zip which was a first for me but was super easy and actually much more satisfying than a regular invisible zip as it's really hidden and is like a secret for getting this quite fitted dress on and off with little problems. It has a very vintage look to it with this viscose fabric which was in my stash and originally from @til_the_sun_goes_down but could also look a little more modern and dressy if you used a fancier fabric.
