I debated over what to make and decided on @SewOverItLondon Lulu Dress 😍 I had a lovely floral Lulu Dress in my wardrobe and was gutted when it started to look tired and get a little tight. I've been meaning to add another to my wardrobe and I'm really happy to have finally made another! The fabric is a gorgeous green cotton with a mouse print design. The fabric is beautifully soft and super comfortable to wear! I absolutely love the Tilda print Hibernation collection 😍 the collection has lots of lovely prints and colours that are perfect for brightening up an autumn wardrobe! The dress came together quickly and was good fun to make. I'm really enjoying having a Lulu Dress back in my wardrobe and have more planned! Me Made May 2024 - Day 19... it's a bank holiday weekend in Germany and I am wearing my brand new linen dress which I finished last night. I just wish the weather was more holiday appropriate. I used the Ruffle Sleeve Top pattern by Peppermint Magazine and lengthened it into a dress. For the shape of the side seams I referred to my trusted #soiluludress. I am more than happy with the result. The pattern instructions are fabulous. Almost all seams are made as French seams which results in a very professional finish on the inside. I think I went down one size since I prefer a more fitted result. ☠️ My toxic sewing trait is basically all of them, with the exception that I *always* prewash my fabric after I had a disaster with a #soilulu in fairly special chambray as a beginner sewist. A hard lesson to learn but probably worth it in the long run. Felt like I’ve just about got over the trauma now so I decided to make this again, this time for Granny P in an even more special fabric. This is a great pattern if you’ve got a print you want to show off as there are no darts etc. Obviously this does mean it’s not particularly shaped but equally it’s not very loose. The pattern is beginner friendly with the only not entirely straightforward bits being the bias binding and the keyhole. I did modify this slightly, first I didn’t want the loop closure so I stitched the bias binding together and applied it with the seam lined up with the centre back to give a cleaner finish at the front. On a whim I also bound the keyhole opening with a narrower binding. Happy Monday! I hope your having a wonderful day and good luck to all who start back at work today. I wanted to share a make I made a few weeks ago and didn't get around to sharing! There are several 2021 projects that still need to be shared 🤭😂 This is a @SewOverItLondon Lulu Dress made in this amazing fabric from @abakhan_manchester ❤️🐈 I came across the fabric in the shop and knew it had to come home with me. I was a little unsure whether the colour would suit me, but I don't think it looks too bad! I made the Lulu in a size 10, but did a small seam allowance on the sleeves as my previous Lulu sleeves were a little tight at the elbow. I did have a silly mistake when creating the keyhole at the front...I also created on at the back 🤦🏼‍♀️ However, I decided to embrace it and the back also had a keyhole closing that is sewn into the neckband. It is less obvious than the front and remains closed, but I think it looks quite pretty! I've had a lot of wear out of this already. The Lulu pattern is quick and easy and so far has worked really well in a poplin and now a poly-viscose mix. I did finish all the seams to make them strong and will keep an eye on the keyhole opening at the front. There can be a lot of strain on this part of the dress and I don't want it to fray. 🐦🧵 William Morris Lulu Dress 🧵🐦 I am absolutely loving this @sewoveritlondon Lulu Dress made in a lovely William Morris print cotton from @abakhan_mostyn I picked this fabric up in the summer and there was about 1.8m left on the roll and I knew it would be enough for a blouse or dress. My go to is usually a Vintage Shirt Dress, but I wanted to add something different. Cue the Lulu Dress! I made a Lulu dress a few years ago and it was a go to for my casual and work wardrobe. I was gutted when it finally wore through and got a little tight in the shoulders. I've never been able to replace the fabric, but been meaning to some new Lulu's to my wardrobe! The pattern calls for 2m of fabric so I did end up taking a couple of cms off the hem and made 3/4 sleeves (which is a style I really like). The dress is a little shorter than my Tilda Slumbermouse version, but I love pairing the dress with a black belt and boots. I've recently picked up from taller boots from Vinted and planing on spending an evening to pair them with outfits in my wardrobe. I can see this dress being a winning pairing! Day 21 of #memademay2021 Another windy, rainy day. Had a drenching the last 2 days playing golf comps so decided to stay at home today. I'm wearing the #soilulutop with my #mountainviewpullonjeans I made the top not long into my sewing journey before I really thought about fit and fabric. It was a dress but I shortened it to a top. The fabric is too stiff and the upper back is too small, fine when I stand still but as soon as I move it pulls over the bust and feels tight on the arm's, see pics. Wearing it today to decide if it's a keeper. I love this cheeky monkey print and the shape of the neck and sleeves so reluctant to let it go. The #itchtostitch Jean's are great, they have a wide elastic waist which keeps my tum under control, a foe fly and seams in the back legs and are made using stretch fabric. Ta daaa! This morning I tried on more outfits than I dare to admit. This is not me, well not since the days of first dates - many moons ago. One of the best things about instagram is the people you meet. @sarahcsewing and I met years ago at #sewupnorth and have remained friends. When she said that she wanted to make #soiluludress as part of her #makenine2025, I suggested we did it as a sew along using instagram video messenger. Last month Sarah gave me a nudge and the last few weeks we have got together, drank coffee and sewed the odd seam. The dresses have both turned out really well and I can see, mine at least, getting worn a lot over the summer, probably with leggings. I added pockets on a whim and if I was making it again I would probably do the same. We both thought the neckline would be cute with a tie rather than a button- so that might be for next time. One of my favorite, #triedandtrue dress patterns is the @sewoveritlondon #sewoverit #soiluludress . It's so comfortable, it's cute, and I think it just works for me. I made this up in #lillypulitzer #deadstockfabric . I did hack it a bit. It's fully lined and instead of doing the neckline gathers I put some elastic in the front. Re-Gram: July 2020 I absolutely love Shift dresses from the 60s, and the Lulu Dress by Sew Over It is my go-to pattern for them. The fit is great, and the keyhole neckline is adorable! The best part about sewing this dress is that it has no closures or zippers to worry about. I can just throw it on and go. I used a floral Robert Kaufman cotton lawn and I got it from Harts Fabric. Me Made May 2020 - it's really warm and pleasant outside. So I am wearing a #soilulutop by @sewoveritlondon made from a very light and soft viscose with a tiny Paisley pattern. When I sewed it almost two years ago, my serger was not working properly so I finished all the seams with French seams and that extra work really pays off. Going to bust out my machine for the first time in too long... after a #sewingfail I always get mad and stop sewing for a while. This #soiluludress - turned - #soilulutop cropped wasn’t a fail at first... but when you’re lazy and don’t pre-wash fabric it’s all downhill from there. At least I got one good wear out of it! It's very economical - you can squeeze it out of a metre of fabric if it's anon directional print. As a pattern insider for @sewoveritlondon I got a temporary premium access to their Stitch school. I have taken advantage of this opportunity to make a second pair of cigarette trousers. I had made my first pair in a London class and have wanted to make another one ever since but I was a bit scared of tackling the front fly on my own. The online class was the push I needed. I has got very detailed explanations (both written and in video) for this tricky step. It also gives you the option to add welt back pockets (which I did not have when I took the class). Welt pockets are my sewing nemesis but the tutorial really helped and I'm very proud of how neat they look. I really recommend this pattern, it's a real wardrobe staple! The online class also comes with a second trousers pattern 👌 Fabric is a stretch cotton bought from @sewoveritlondon 2 years ago. Really love this teal linen #soilulutop that I made! It was so quick and easy and it’s so comfortable. I love the gathers at the front and the slight boat neck. I did stitch the front together and put a big button on it because I just loved the way it looked and I wasn’t sure a loop big enough for it wouldn’t be kind of in the way. August 2020. Garment #17. This is the Lulu top by @sewoveritlondon made in a rayon from @fabricatemirfield. I made a size 12 at shoulders but graded out to a 14 under the arms. I think it will be a good Autumn top with jeans and I love the colours. Pattern was easy to follow when I read it properly. I made a "wearable toile" too which turned out to be not very wearable due to various mistakes and inaccurate sewing. Fortunately top turned out better. This used to be a dress but I found I wasn't wearing it often. It was a beautiful dress but when I wore it to work the dress had a tendency to rise up when walking to work because of my back pack, tights and the light weight fabric. Not the best combination! Day 21 of #memademay2021 Another windy, rainy day. Had a drenching the last 2 days playing golf comps so decided to stay at home today. I'm wearing the #soilulutop with my #mountainviewpullonjeans I made the top not long into my sewing journey before I really thought about fit and fabric. It was a dress but I shortened it to a top. The fabric is too stiff and the upper back is too small, fine when I stand still but as soon as I move it pulls over the bust and feels tight on the arm's, see pics. Wearing it today to decide if it's a keeper. I love this cheeky monkey print and the shape of the neck and sleeves so reluctant to let it go. The #itchtostitch Jean's are great, they have a wide elastic waist which keeps my tum under control, a foe fly and seams in the back legs and are made using stretch fabric. #memademay2022 Day 14 My Lulu redo. My Lulu dress was not working for me, but I like the neckline and, strangely, the fabric so I wanted to make it more wearable and keep it in my wardrobe. A #SOILuluTop The cotton lawn is a bit thin for a dress without wearing another layer underneath and it was already a bit tight on me, in fact the sleeves were very tight, so I decided to take some of the length off the skirt and create strips of fabric to use as gussets down each sleeve and side seam. I also used most of what was left to make the sleeves a touch longer. During unpicking I damaged the already loose overlocking on the raglan seams, so I removed it and used some vintage bias binding to protect the raw edges as I didn’t want to disturb the neck and risk fraying damage. For fun I made a date label too. And sewed down the facing - I’m never making a garment with a loose facing ever again, unless it extends down to the hem, as in fully lined!! Also wearing #bobpants #SABobPants Bobs are very comfy and I love them, but, no matter how presentable they look when you put them on, after 20 mins they will look like you slept in them, and mine are not even linen. #memademay @sozoblog #memendedmay #sewover50 #sewcomfy #chronicallysewn #alteredtofit #sewingformybody

I made the cutest little top this weekend and I’m so in love with it! I even took the time to handsew around the full width of the neckline. If you know me, you’ll know how I detest handsewing. But there is only one problem with this gorgeous wee top. IT DOESN’T FIT ME!!! It’s too small! Wahhhh! Update on the Sew Over It Lulu dress...well I made an oops...everything was going so well too. Anyways I decided that the Lulu Dress will be a Lulu top and I actually like it better as a top. It is a little longer and I made the waist band a little tighter so I can pull it up a bit to blouse it. I think I will get more wear out of this.
