Sewing Diary: #soininatrousers with welt pockets! These are made form 2 yards of #joanns 'Sew Classics Executive Suiting Fabric' in the color potting soil. My sewing inspiration was @alexandria_arnold pleated brown trousers. Thanks for the inspo! The Construction: The welts were a bit tough duhh. not bad for my first ever. Cut a straight size 14 in Sew Over It with no mods. The fit was a bit off. I will have to play around with a muslin next time and make some adjustments. Overall I am pleased and love all the pockets. Sewing plans for 2022 This year I am even more determined to use fabric and patterns that I already own. When I do buy fabric I really want to try to source it second hand where possible. I also want to improve my fitting. Rather than constantly using new patterns I want to have a collection tailored to me that I can easily use again and again. I finally made myself a three-piece suit! It took me a little bit of time to get it all together (especially the jacket), but I’m very happy with the end result. The jacket is version 1 of the Francine jacket from @sewoveritlondon , the vest is the Vintage vest from @folkwearsewing.patterns with quite some adjustments and the trousers are the Nina trousers which are also from @sewoveritlondon . Fabrics are a lovely tweed and a smooth lining which I bought at @toverstof , as well as the buttons. The trousers are lined now, after wearing it for a few times, I realized that it was way too itchy. I’ve been working on what was intended to be a wearable muslin of the #soininatrousers Normally SOI trousers fit me fairly well straight from the pattern so I properly finished everything with French seams and bias tape expecting these to be the same but as you can see from the photos that was not the case. 1. Front shot of the trousers on me. There’s too big of a curve in the front crotch causing the wrinkles. 2. The back of the trousers on me. There is far too little curve on the back making the crotch eat into my bum uncomfortably. I also really need a sway back adjustment the waistband isn’t touching most of my back. 3. Front shot on my mum. She’s got far narrower hips than me and a flatter bum but our waists are about the same. There’s less of an issue with the front crotch on her but the hip is massive. 4. Back on mum. She said even on her the back was tight on the crotch and preteen boy’s jeans don’t grab her there

Finally finished my #soininatrousers from @sewoveritlondon in the grey check fabric from @likesewamazing. I opted to do the welt pockets on the back - first time ever making welt pockets and after a bit of head scratching I got there! Second one is better than the first one but unless someone is staring at my bum noone would know! I was really happy with how they came together and the fit is perfect! Just need to let the hem down a smidge so they sit over my shoes a bit more. Think I might make a linen pair for the summer too. #sewover50

So, I haven't been doing much sewing recently, but I have been doing some fabric shopping and have lots of plans!! Top to bottom, plans are: 1. Short sleeved top of some description as it's only 1 metre. Maybe the @sewoveritlondon shift dress, but the top version (saw one @sewisfaction had made as a sample on her latest video and liked the look of it). 2. Trousers - either #soininatrousers or Nina Lee #portobellotrousers. I haven't made either pattern and can't decide which would suit me better - think I'm leaning towards portobello, but we'll see. 3. Another #soipussybowblouse which will pair nicely with the trousers. 4. Either a @tillybuttons #sewingindigo dress but more likely a @deer_and_doe_patterns #myosotisdresss 5. This is a really soft drapey jersey and I might have a go at a Tilly and the Buttons #agnestop 6. A blouse of some description - haven't found one I like yet though. Any suggestions of new autumn blouses/tops welcome! 7. A @fridaypatterncompany #wildergown- I really fancy swooshing around in a bright red maxi dress!! 8. Another blouse but again, not sure on the pattern yet. 9. Another Friday Pattern Company #sagebrushtop I also have plans to try some #dawnjeans and I'm going to make another #clarecoat but I'll post details of that as I go. In the meantime, that should keep me occupied!! I do also have a load of plans for Soph which I will post up tomorrow.

These are the #soininatrousers and nobody else on social media seems to have made them. I don't know why because it's a great pattern.I wanted trousers that were slouchy and casual as an alternative to wearing jeans and these fit the bill exactly. I made a straight size 12, but used the curved waistband from the morgan jeans. I followed the @sewoveritlondon instructions exactly until I got to the waistband, then did my own thing.. I found the instructions quite easy to follow, apart from the welt pockets, which were a bit of a brain teaser, but did eventually make sense to me.. I believe SOI sell an online trouser fitting class which includes this pattern, but the instructions that come with the Nina trousers are detailed enough,, but maybe I'm lucky that they fit me straight out of the packet, apart from removing 2 inches from the length.. I'll definitely make them again, but also have a few other wide leg trousers that I'd like to try.

First make of 2024 👖🪡!! And last pictures in the old office. A pair of #soininatrousers in a remnant of the check wool we had in before Christmas. This is my first pair of wool trousers and I’m in love 🥰 so warm! It has been a revelation! They were easier to make than I thought. The only tricky bit being the fly zip which I just took slow and read the instructions twice and I felt very proud of myself. Now time to really start thinking about making some jeans…. 😅

Flowy, wide pants. I don’t think I can have enough of those. The pattern is the Nina trousers from @sewoveritlondon , which I already used a few times. I adapted the in seam pockets to a real pocket and played with the stripes of the fabric there. For the welted back pocket I made a little extra detail. The inside of the waistband and the hem are finished with bias tape. The main fabric is a lovely viscose-linen-mix from @destoffenkamer , as well as the bias tape. The fabric for the pockets is a remnant of double gauze from @toverstof which I made a top out of last year.
