I have wanted to make another #SoiCocoJacket for such a long time. I bought a coating remnant from @GuthrieGhani at the #sewbrum event back in 2022! I knew when I bought it that it was going to be a coco jacket. Originally, I had chosen a different lining but when Minerva released their lining base cloth I knew I had the perfect pairing! I’ve used a print called Floret Flow. I made some adjustments to the pattern the last time I made it so this was a relatively easy sew and much easier than last time when I made it out of sequins! It’s a light jacket that will be great for spring and autumn. I do have some of both fabrics left which I’m going to use try and make a matching hat. Of all the makes in our Imperial floral colorways, this fabulous suit in Imperial Green by @quirkysewist is one of the most memorable. Repost:• @quirkysewist My final make of 2020 was the #soipencilskirt which I had been putting off because of the invisible zip but gained confidence after tackling it for my Christmas dress. . I wanted the skirt to match my #soicocojacket which I had made earlier in the year to attend a traditional Chinese event. . Being mixed race, I find cheongsams are not the most flattering for my curves and I found the combination of a Chinese fabric with a Western style jacket to be the best way of ticking the traditional box as well as the, suit my body type box. . I was particularly proud of my Coco as it was my first piece of clothing which involved a lining. I love linings now as I don't have an overlocker so it's a convenient way of hiding slightly untidy construction . Now that I've made a whole suit I'm not 100% sure I'd wear it as a complete outfit... But I'm glad I have the option to mix and match! . With the beautiful spring weather we’ve been having it feels appropriate to be sharing the project I’ve just finished - the Sew Over It Coco Jacket in a lovely springy jacquard matelassé from Sew Me Sunshine. This classic Chanel-inspired jacket is made up of a number of panels and is fully lined (I used a cream coloured viscose/cotton mix fabric). The sleeves are cut in two pieces which gives them a lovely shape. I also chose to interface all the panels (rather than just the front panel as the pattern recommends) to give my fabric more structure. I made this in a size 10 - the measurements put me between a 10 and a 12 - but I think next time I wouldn’t size down as I think I’d struggle to get anything more than a lightweight blouse under this jacket! It is definitely fitted - as you’d imagine from a Chanel type jacket. I think the interfacing also added some stiffness and bulk. I only had 1.5m of this fabric but have cut a Bestie Bag out of the remnants (watch this space!) so I am pleased with how far it has gone! Here is the outfit I wore to the #KnittingandStitchingShow in Harrogate on Saturday. I love it! I made the #soiavaskirt #soicocojacket and the #davenportdresshack into a top! Styled with cowboy boots, tights and belt. The beautiful jacquard fabric is from #jennystitchesfabrics and the top is made from cotton lawn from #ladymcelroyfabrics I think they go together beautifully. Having a #sewoverit sewing weekend. This is the #soicocojacket made in a beautiful jade boucle. Inspired by the Chanel boucle tweed jacket, this Coco jacket looks so chic and timeless. Both the pattern and fabric have been an absolute dream to work with. ✂️ I decided to interface the whole jacket as the weave is quite loose but this gives so much more structure to the garment. ✂️ The sleeves are going in next and then on to the lining. ✂️ I really wanted to use a green brocade trim but am struggling to find one which is just right so I might leave that until I find the perfect partner. ✂️ Next up the @sewoveritlondon Pussy Bow blouse ✂️ I have a busy week of teaching and a bloggers day @craftcottonco on Thursday to look forward to let's hope I get everything finished. I’ve recently challenged my sewing skills by making a couple of jackets! The first for my son & daughter-in-laws beautiful wedding is a @sewoverit Coco jacket in a blue wool mix. Size 12 with no modifications. The other is a @bellalovespatterns Freddie jacket which myself & @magicmakinghands thought would be appropriate for a visit to the Chanel exhibition at the V&A! What do you do when your son proposes on 2nd March 2025, then tells you that the wedding is going to be on the 28th April 2025? Absolutely delighted, but then the panic set in as I really wanted to make my outfit for the occasion!! I quickly decided on my pattern choices, both were by Sew Over It, the Coco jacket and Giselle dress. Fortunately I already had these patterns in my stash as I wanted to try them, just not quite so quickly 😳 I did my usual toile of both patterns, just to be sure of sizing. My jacket was a straight size 12, but I did add 2" to the length as it wanted it a little longer. My dress is a size 12 bodice, blended to a 14 over the waist and hips. Having only 57 days from the proposal to the wedding didn't leave much time for fabric shopping, but this whole outfit was definitely meant to come together. I had some Hugo Boss coating fabric left over from a recent coat project, together with some jaquard lining from Higgs and Higgs, also left from that coat. Since the wedding was April I thought I may benefit from a slightly thicker, warmer fabric. As it turns out that wasn't a problem as the wedding day weather was fabulous 🌞😎 My dress fabric was a Domotex Viscose Naima in purple mauve again from Higgs and Higgs bought to make a Giselle dress but I hadn't got round to it. I just happened to drape the fabric on my tailors dummy underneath my finished jacket and realised that they matched perfectly 👌 I'm very happy with how my outfit came together and loved wearing it on the day. I went to London at the weekend to see my favourite musician (Laura Marling!) and catch up with friends. Managed to squeeze in a couple of hours at Goldhawk Road before heading home, to top up the fabric stash too ☺️. Excited to get started with these beauties! Plans so far are a Sew Over It Estelle Dress #soiestelledress with the raspberry cotton jersey, a Papercut Patterns Nova Coat #novacoat with the black and gold/copper wool and a cropped jacket, probably Sew Over It Coco #soicocojacket with the blue brocade. Not sure yet for the cream and gold, but probably something very simple, maybe a Fibre Mood Frances #fibremoodfrances. There’s lots of sparkles everywhere at the moment… getting festive!

C O C O This is my amazing sequin #soicocojacket The fabric is a lot heavier than I was expecting so I did have to change my plans slightly but I’m so glad I did. The structure of the fabric works so well as a jacket and holds its shape. I used a ballpoint needle (well a few!) for this make and I did break a couple, but not as many as I expected! I also didn’t remove the sequins from the seam allowance so that made things easier and slightly less messy. I have left a trail of sequins around my house and at my sewing class where my teachers helped to fit the jacket. I played around with the direction of the fabric too which I think adds a little bit of interest if it’s noticed! I love how bright the colours are, it’s almost pastel neon colours and will look great with so much! If you are thinking of sewing sequins, do it. It’s not as scary as you think, just take your time and don’t worry if you break a needle or two. The final result is so worth it. My first entry to the Sew Yellow for Endo challenge for 2025 is this Bestie Bag. It seems like everyone in the sewing community has been making this bag and I am not surprised as it is such a lovely, quick and useful make. It’s also perfect for using up remnants from projects. I used the leftovers from my recent Sew Over It Coco Jacket to sew this up so I now have a matching jacket and bag. (Scroll 👉🏻 for pic of these together, but jacket deets are in a previous post.) The fabric is a jacquard matelassé from Sew Me Sunshine. I had 1.5 metres altogether so I am pleased have made two items from it. I used a strong interfacing and also Iinterfaced the pockets (not in the pattern) so that they would be stronger for holding things. I chose to use a two-way zip, which I really like. One change I would make to my next bag is to lengthen the left strap (the fixed one) as I feel it is a bit short - if you want to shorten the bag strap it leaves the excess strap hanging down quite a way below the bag. All in all a great stash buster and satisfying sew. Coco Chanel eat your heart out! I LOVED this loose wool fabric the minute I saw it (which was actually when in line to purchase, after promising my long suffering husband that we were done) and immediately pictured a Chanel style jacket. Took me quite a while to find the right pattern but I eventually found this pattern by @sewoveritlondon. First pattern of theirs that I've made but definitely see more of theirs in my future. The pattern instructions were super clear and the pdf pattern was easy to construct which as my most disliked part of the process, I appreciate. Things I want to brag about in this make - there are seven seams in the jacket body and two seams per sleeve - and ALL the horizontal ribbons in the fabric match up. All the seam edges have been handsewn down to reduce the bulk and make the seams flat, the lining is cute and it used up scraps - both in lining and the interfacing I used to stabilise the fabric. Next time, I might lengthen the sleeves a little - I love the bracelet length for this fabric but if I was making in a lighter fabric, I'd go a longer sleeve. In short, I love this jacket.
