July 2020, garments #10, #11 and #12 This is my french seam practice project. It was also my first time making something on the bias. I accept it is a bit matchy matchy but in the short term I don't care and once I get to grips with knits I'm planning to do a grey jersey top and leggings so I can mix and match and then I'll have two sets of pyjamas to go with my dressing gown. 😊 All patterns from @sewoveritlondon. Top is #soialderleytop a bias cut top , shorts are #soiultimatepyjamas both from #soistitchschool, though I did french seams in the shorts and attached the waistband differently to avoid any raw edges. Robe is #soisylviarobe with french seams and added belt loops. No other adjustments. I spent some time this afternoon drawing my summer capsule wardrobe. I haven’t done this in a while but I had a fabric delivery today (swipe to see) and it inspired me. Are you a fan of planning your makes or do you just go with the flow? Some of these are items I already own and some are sewing plans. I hope this proves a capsule wardrobe doesn’t have to be only black, white and beige. Mine uses white and rust as base colours with blue, pink and yellow to add colour. This doesn’t mean I’ll never make anything in another colour but it’s a good starting point to focus me on making clothes I will wear. • P.s sorry for the hazy photos. I hacked the @sewoveritlondon #soialderleytop into a dress with side slits and I am in LOVE so I’ve shared a blog post of how I did it. I haven’t seen this top around much on Instagram which is probably as there is a lot of competition in the cami top pattern department. However this one does offer something a little different as it is darted, French seamed, is cut on the bias and has a bias bound neckline. I hacked it into a dress and added a split hem. I love the addition of the buttons to the sides. They serve no purpose but I think they look pretty and make the dress look more finished. Last week we added a new Project class to Stitch School, the Alderley Top. It's a bias cut cami that you can make in anything from stable cotton to slinky silk. The last few days of #memademay. I’m late to the #ogdencami party, but I foresee lots of these in the future. Starting from the top left, a #truebias Ogden cami in a liberty tana lawn I got as a remnant ages ago from @treadleyardgoods. Then a rayon #soialderleytop (edit: I realized later that I had the top on backwards and it fits much better if the bust darts are in front! See next post) and #grainlinestudio #pietrapants in a cotton/linen/viscose/lyocell blend. (If I remember correctly I graded between two sizes and lengthened them a bit.). And lastly, an Ogden cami made with leftover from the pants. I made the straps extra long, but I’m thinking probably too long so if I can overcome laziness I may shorten them.
