This weeks sewing offering is a @sewoveritlondon Freia Blouse made from a remnant I bought over a year ago from @theweefabricshop and the seams are all overlocked in rainbow overlocker thread from @littletshabdash which I love 💘 The sleeves were shortened and I left out the elastic. I also lengthened the ties. A few firsts with this one, first time doing a double overcast hem at the collar, V beck binding, which I nailed in my opinion 😊 thank you @sosewmad for the advice with that 👍 and my first @sewoveritlondon Pattern, definitely wont be my last. I decided several months ago to abandon my #makenine2020 as over half the items on there were meant for our 10 year wedding anniversary trip to Mauritius in June which obvs never happened because...rona 😢 So instead I present my alternative makenine, made up by me 😂, which is a celebration of my continued fan-girl obsession with @sewoveritlondon and another year as one of their Pattern Insiders. Sew Over It release a new pdf pattern every month and as Pattern Insiders we get early access (and free printing) so we can make up the garment ready for launch day. There is no obligation to make the pattern every month but as SOI patterns usually suit and fit me so well I do end up making most of them! This year I made 9 out of the 12 that were released. Super surprised (and pleased) at how pointy this point is considering this is a silk chiffon (deadstock from @rainbowfabrickilburn). #memademay2021 Day 7. Friday!!!! More of a relaxed vibe today in my #soifreiablouse . This is a lockdown make from last year that I loved making but never actually had any opportunity to wear! #mmm21

As my husband says, this skirt has something of North Korea about it….! This is my second @tillybuttons Arielle skirt in really lovely quality stretch wool twill from @guthrieghani, lined with Bemberg rayon from @backstitchshop. I saw how @lindsayjaneane made a gorgeous Arielle with a zip instead of buttons, and had to try. Thank you, Lindsay, for writing a blog about it so I didn’t have to work it out for myself! If I was to do this again: ✂️ I’d get a swatch. I really love Guthrie and Ghani and cannot fault anything about them - but my screen showed a much greener, mossier, lighter green than this - the fabric is more murky and military than I’d thought. ✂️ I love the idea of a contrasting zip, but the colour combination definitely makes me look like I should be in a dictator’s parade 😁! ✂️ I’d use a much shorter zip. I’ve never shortened a zip without the top looking lopsided so I didn’t alter this one - and it needed to be much shorter. The skirt hem and zip bottom are too close, and need to be very deliberately different. ✂️ I’d alter the pattern so the edge where the zip is is less close to the side seam. As that would involve altering all the lining pieces too, let’s be honest - I will never be doing this. Ultimately my body shape benefits from skirts with waistbands - I’m not finding this waistline easy or flattering to style. This blouse is a @sewoverit Freia blouse in John Kaldor chiffon from @minervadotcom - great blouse and fabric. As always, Tilly patterns are great to use. #sewingarielle #soifreiablouse

Sometimes sewing is a fail, and that’s ok! I really wanted to love this too but I cut the size which worked for me on the torso, but the shoulders came in super narrow and I could barely get it over my head! I also would like more drama, more drama in the collar, a deeper V and more puffiness in the sleeves. Oh well, we live and learn! I bought this fabric from @fabricgodmother to make a blouse for New Years Eve, but I didn’t get round to it. January was a bit quieter and I managed to finish it in time for a friends 50th birthday party. The blouse is the @sewoveritlondon Freia blouse, which I have to admit I have had for a while but was a little scared of sewing the collar. In reality it was really simple and the instructions were superb and I am now wishing I had tried it earlier. I finished the ruffle collar with a rolled hem on my overlocker, so I decided to do the same with the sleeve hems and then add shirring to gather them at the cuff. (Swipe to see photos of these, but please ignore my stray threads at the collar 😂) The fabric is a viscose lawn which has a subtle metallic thread running through it. It is really beautiful, but very difficult to capture on camera.

Ok here we go, day 1 of #memademay2021 This is my @sewoverit #freiablouse which I made during the 1st lockdown last year. It’s nice and easy to wear and works with jeans or smart for the office The fabric was some georgette I had bought years ago but never knew what to do with it. I didn’t have quite enough so it’s a couple of inches short and the ties are fraying as they’re sewn with barely any seam allowance. Christmas makes, finished the @sewoverit #soifreiablouse in a silk chiffon from @rainbowfabrickilburn. Also managed to sew a @ninaleelondon #parklaneblouse made with a remnant of @atelierbrunette viscose twill from @sewisfaction. I added a few ruffles to the Park Lane blouse, but I think the fabric was a bit too thick for this... which make sewing tricky... esp the collar. That is a bit of a hash. I also did a FBA and shortened the collar to allow for space for the neck ruffle. The Freia blouse was made with no alterations, although I cut the sleeves as long as I could with the fabric I had. It was a bit of a fabric eater!

Did get to start cutting out the top. Was going to go with my Liberty of London Fabric- but then I could not do it. Went with some linen as a friend predicted 🤓 #soifreiablouse. My phone is the best fabric weight. Made a few alterations- went with a size 20, but added 1/2 inch to each piece (2 inches total). Added a curved hem, made the short sleeve in to a long sleeve version. Brought the neckline up 1/2 inch. Tomorrow I sew!!!!!

I love this top. This is a Sew Over It Freia blouse with sleeves from the Bella Loves Patterns Vita Blouse. I saw @cassie.nicole.creates post of her beautiful Vita as I was deciding on this fabric, and that made the decision of fabric and pattern so easy! Thank you @lieslandco for the really clear broad shoulder adjustment tutorial; this is the first of my several Freias to properly fit there. I know, not really the season for it 🥶 It could have been wearable in the early fall but my sewing somehow fails to keep up with the seasons so I started this rather late... Another red creation fresh off the table! I loved the @sewoveritlondon #soifreiablouse pattern when it came out although was intimidated by the idea of sewing chiffon. I snagged 85 cm of this beautiful fabric so decided to try the @inspired.chick sleeveless version. It’s lined with some blush pink chiffon in my stash from a dress I made in my uni days! My version of the newly released Esther blouse from @sewoveritlondon made in exquisite @storrslondonfabric cotton lawn from @minervadotcom I love this blouse, feeling very feminin in it ! Very easy to make actually and because I used cotton it was even faster to sew.
