You know that feeling when you make something from a pattern and you just know you’re going to make lots more! This is one of those patterns… the Sew Over It Cora top. A super easy to follow pattern with a couple of minor challenges to keep it interesting! The result - a very easy to wear piece of clothing! And more importantly, one I can get over my arm and wear with my sling! The fabric is a flowing viscose with fantastic drape - a few people even asked if it was silk, it’s that soft! Very easy to cut and work with, and beautiful to wear. No pics of me wearing it yet - don’t think the world needs to see me with left-hand applied make-up and hair that is washed every 4 days by my husband!!! Wouldn’t do this lovely top justice!! For the past 2 years when I sew for Mother's Day, I happened to pick 2 @sewoveritlondon patterns by chance, so this year I purposely looked through my printed A0 SOI pattern for inspiration. This time I chose the Cora Top which is loose fitting with a pleat at the back bodice and a pretty V-neckline with another front pleat! I love the Hi-lo hem with the angled slits, giving the simple top a little more sassy look. . I thought I’d give #meetthemaker a go to see if I can get back on track with posting on the old grid. This is me in my old sewing/craft room before we moved house. The new room is pretty much exactly the same set up but smaller. Which just means it doesn’t have to double up as a guest room as well. We hope (we really hope) that one day this will become a nursery (ivf round three should be starting in a month.) but until then it’s a craft room-cum-study. I make anything you can sew: clothes, cushions, curtains. I also love craft workshops - last year I got really into marbling and I plan to do more as soon as the house is sorted. I did a workshop in decoupage last year too, check out my upcycled wardrobe in my last post. I’m not scared of a bit of DIY which is lucky because the new house needs A LOT of work! My dream is one day to make and sell things and run workshops in our new garden studio but I have a lot going on this year so I shall continue to be an amateur crafter and sewist for now. Here I am on my way to celebrate my brothers birthday in a Cora top from Sew over it. It is a super comfy top with a interesting hem. Today I also finished an overall for my brothers newborn. I thought it would be a simple make but everything that could go wrong went wrong. I did the zipper three times and broke one needle. I think I stick to sew clothes for myself 😂. Here’s my #sewingweekender finished products. They aren’t in anyway perfect but if there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s that done and wearable is way more important than perfect. My second @sewoveritlondon Cora top of the week and I also made their Molly dress version. Both are super comfy and will see me through this last month of pregnancy. It was a day of new fabrics trying crepe and jersey and it feels good to have that under my belt. I think something a bit more light weight would work better with this pattern, it’s quite boxy in the poplin, however it’s a good excuse to do a French tuck. . 2020 Silver Lining - #MeetTheMakerWeek Since I can’t go out this year, I’ve had a lot more time for sewing. It’s been excellent and I’ve learned and made a lot of new things. I was definitely on the fence about this top. It’s the @sewoveritlondon #soicoratop made in viscose from @1stforfabrics. My reasons? Well, the fabric was super slippery, making it quite difficult to work with (frustrating). Also, I’m not sure big roses are really *my thing* (the fabric was a “pot luck” purchase). Finally, my boyfriend’s first reaction was “nice Hawaiian shirt” and likened me to the guy from Jurassic Park (swipe to see). I made myself another shirt two weeks ago. It's the #soicoratop from @sewoveritlondon. I made my regular pre pregnancy size, as it's a very oversized fit already. I did want to lengthen it a bit, but due to fabric restrictions I couldn't lengthen as far as I wanted. Another pair of pants this week. These are the #seamworkdexter pants. they are a slim fitting knit pant. I have to be honest, I had to futz around with this pattern quite a bit to get a slim fit. There is not enough negative ease. I took in one inch total on the waist and did one inch side seam allowances. They still aren't as slim as I would like, but they are wearable. And because I'm a muslin rebellion, I didnt figure this out beforehand. Fabric is ponte knit from @fabricdotcom.
