I remember video calling my Mum a few years ago, and commenting on her lovely bee pattern tshirt that she then proudly told me she’d made. So today’s little quick project has been making one of my own out of her leftover fabric, took a few attempts to have enough fabric, but got there in the end! Swipe for a bonus picture of a very tiny niece, the one time Nana was able to meet her! Sometimes the grief feels light enough to be able to celebrate the skills (and fabric and tools!) May 1! Thanks to all of you other sewists for reminding me that Me Made May was upon us! I wear my handmades all of the time but I really like being able to look back at previous Mays and see how I've progressed in my skills, changed my style, and daily documentation really helps me think about what I love and lack in my current wardrobe. I haven't been very motivated to see for a few months (I think all my creative brain space was going towards knitting projects!) But the change in weather has got my wheels turning and hopefully I can tackle a few new things this month! Today, I'm wearing my lace overlay tee made from @sewoveritlondon's #soilucytshirt , my favorite high waisted #gingerjeans and some earrings that I made last fall with my daughter. Sewing is slow these days. But, it's making me be much more intentional about how I spend my time and which projects are highest priority. These are three new pieces that have been in the works since July! I am wearing a dark pair of high waisted #gingerjeans (which I think are my best fitting/most comfortable pair so far!), A white lace #soilucytshirt and a #soifrancinejacket. I bought the denim from @threadbarefabrics years ago, the stretch lace and cotton knit for the tee are from @fabricdotcom and the blazer is made from a mystery fabric that I thrifted. The Gingers are size 12 with an adjusted yoke and waistband for my sway back and I always have to play with the width below the knee to adjust for my calves. The Lucy tee is a size 14 (my size in all @sewoveritlondon patterns) and I just underlined the main body pieces and hemmed the sleeves but so far, have left the lace hem raw and hemmed the solid underneath. This Francine Jacket is my favorite blazer yet... I have always wanted to love wearing blazers but don't have many reasons to and haven't nailed the right one yet. This one might be it (though the fabric is a tiny bit itchy. 🙄). It's a size 14, shortened by two inches in the sleeves and three in the main body pieces. Other than that, I didn't make any adjustments. I like it most with the sleeves rolled a little as it makes it look so much more casual and am looking forward to seeing how else I can style it with what I already have in my wardrobe. 😊 #memadeeveryday #imakemyclothes #imnot2d #soishowoff #indiesewing #2020projects

My #soilucytshirt (pattern by @sewoveritlondon ♥️) has been affectionately nicknamed my “90s Sweetshop T-shirt”. Fabric from Stoff Kiosken (they filed it under Baby and Children’s Fabrics 😳!). Well 😤 I love my adult sized children’s T-shirt 🤣 Even though the instructions are, as usual, detailed and easy to follow, I’ve recently discovered Lisa’s #stayhomeandsewalong videos on YouTube, so I watched it and paused to sew every now and again. It is so much fun! The videos are filled with lots of titbits of extra info 😊 And Lisa’s friendly way of chatting to her audience makes it feel like I’ve invited a friend round for a cup of tea and we’re sewing together. On that note, I love Lisa’s tea mug 😄 (Rifle Paper Co. I believe?!) 🍭 I’m definitely making more Lucy’s. A maxi dress version is a must!

I enjoyed making the @sewoveritlondon Lucy dress pattern which is pretty simple but it was most definitely slow sewing, time squeezed in between feeding and changing. I made the t-shirt straight from the pattern and hacked the dress into a skirt so that I can breastfeed. I really like the neckline on the t-shirt so I’ll definitely be making more of these. For the skirt I just cut a simple waistband and inserted elastic which I sewed in place all the way around because I hate it when the elastic gets all tangled up inside the channel. I also included pockets because where do I put my iPhone while I’m carrying the baby otherwise?! I always intended to make a dress with this jersey fabric but I’m pleased I’ve gone with the matching separates because it makes a more versatile outfit. I squeezed it out of 3m of fabric I had in my stash so there was no pattern matching opportunity and I had to cut the back skirt and top in two pieces. Some of it fell quite fortuitously and the pattern is so busy I don’t think you notice. It’s great layered over leggings and with a chunky cardigan now but I can see I’ll be wearing it a lot in summer too. My sewjo has been seriously AWOL recently - I’ve had this @sewoveritlondon Lucy T-Shirt cut out for 4 weeks now and just never managed to summon up the oompf each weekend to actually sew it together even though it’s a super simple make that would take me no longer than an hour to do. But there’s no point pushing it when you’re just not feeling it, right?! Well I don’t know what was different about today but my sewjo seems to have returned - hoorah 🎉🪡🧵✂️Let’s hope it lasts. I cut a size 12, graded to 10 at the waist. The fabric is a 100% cotton jersey from @sewoveritlondon and is aptly named ‘Middleton’ as it’s very reminiscent of what the Duchess of Cambridge wore when she left hospital with Prince George! 👶🏻 As many of you know I’m a sucker for anything polka dot and the blue is such a lovely, vibrant spring shade. I decided to use the neck binding piece as a neckband which I topstitched down rather than folding it to the inside as I wanted more of a traditional tshirt look. I’ve repeated some clothes again since my last post including the Nasima jumpsuit and Lucy skirt hack with matching t-shirt. And here it is! #newlook6650 in an amazing viscose jersey from @1stforfabrics This was a joy to sew with and has a lovely weightiness to it, not flimsy at all. I left out the back darts (the front tie was enough for me) and lowered the neckline using the #soilucydress as a template. Made size 16, grading to 18 from bust to waist. Very straightforward to sew. Loved wearing this out last night for a work event! 🤩🤩 The colours are amazing on this! I enjoyed making the @sewoveritlondon Lucy dress pattern which is pretty simple but it was most definitely slow sewing, time squeezed in between feeding and changing. I made the t-shirt straight from the pattern and hacked the dress into a skirt so that I can breastfeed. I really like the neckline on the t-shirt so I’ll definitely be making more of these. For the skirt I just cut a simple waistband and inserted elastic which I sewed in place all the way around because I hate it when the elastic gets all tangled up inside the channel. I also included pockets because where do I put my iPhone while I’m carrying the baby otherwise?! I always intended to make a dress with this jersey fabric but I’m pleased I’ve gone with the matching separates because it makes a more versatile outfit. I squeezed it out of 3m of fabric I had in my stash so there was no pattern matching opportunity and I had to cut the back skirt and top in two pieces. Some of it fell quite fortuitously and the pattern is so busy I don’t think you notice. It’s great layered over leggings and with a chunky cardigan now but I can see I’ll be wearing it a lot in summer too. I’m having a few days away in the south of France with my best ladies and it is glorious!! Today we walked along the Cap d’Antibes, swam in the sea and now having an aperitif in Antibes. . I’m wearing a @sewoveritlondon Lucy dress in a light t-shirt weight fabric I picked up in Lisbon earlier this year - it’s perfect for the heat here! . I made this in a straight size 14, only alteration was to put elastic in the waist rather than ties. It’s a nice glam dress without being too fancy. Another practice for workshops next year, this is the Sew Over It Lucy dress. You can make it as a t-shirt or a jersey dress, with a long or short skirt. I've straightened out the skirt and added length. The fabric is a cotton jersey from Pound Fabrics. It has a drawstring waist tie and a nice scoop neckline. Latest make has many inspirations 😊 This is my 2nd @sewoveritlondon #soilucydress but with a few additions. I saw @sewveryjenny amazing New Look 6650 dress and loved the front tie detail, so tried to recreate this. I found @islandsewcialist Love Notions blog for adding front ties and went for it! Thank you for the great tutorial! Mods: size 14, with added front ties. I merged the bodice pieces to skirt, so there is no front seam/elastic waist channel. Also added back darts for a bit more shaping. Shortened by 7" plus 2" hem. May 2021. Garments 6 and 7 of the year. Thought I'd make something a bit easier so I returned to the @sewoveritlondon Lucy pattern and made a top and a dress. It's a really straight forward sew though still haven't quite nailed the neckline. I probably need to shorten the neck piece slightly. Very comfortable to wear. The top is smart enough for work and, if the weather is nice, I think I will be wearing the dress a lot over the summer. Debating whether to make the maxi version too! I made size 12, lengthened bodice on both by 1". I added pockets to the dress too. I decided several months ago to abandon my #makenine2020 as over half the items on there were meant for our 10 year wedding anniversary trip to Mauritius in June which obvs never happened because...rona 😢 So instead I present my alternative makenine, made up by me 😂, which is a celebration of my continued fan-girl obsession with @sewoveritlondon and another year as one of their Pattern Insiders. Sew Over It release a new pdf pattern every month and as Pattern Insiders we get early access (and free printing) so we can make up the garment ready for launch day. There is no obligation to make the pattern every month but as SOI patterns usually suit and fit me so well I do end up making most of them! This year I made 9 out of the 12 that were released.
