I'm going to enjoy wearing my me-mades as I always do, though I might try and document what I'm wearing in on here a little more than usual. This was today's handmade work outfit made a month or so ago - a @sewoveritlondon Cowl Neck dress made from a ponte roma that I've had in my stash for about 6 years. I was being lazy when I made this and didn't remeasure since the first time I made it, so this ended up being too big for me by using my existing cut pattern pieces. To fix it I took a couple of inches out the side seams but it's still too big at the shoulders so I definitely need a smaller size and potentially a narrow back adjustment next time. I do think it gives a lovely look for work whilst being super comfy. The only think I have to make sure of is that the cowl is sitting right. I'm getting a few sewing projects out the way to start off the year, including this cute top. Based on the #soicowlneckdress which I've made in three different fabrics so far. It makes up great in everything from ponte to this slinky jersey number. Only had enough in my stash for cute little short sleeves, but it's a good length for summer. Any other cherry blossom fans out there? I just love the abundant pink blossoms bringing colour to the landscapes. I found this organic cotton french terry from @northernmonkeymakes that to me is the perfect spring fabric; a pink cherry blossom print, that is warm and cosy, (the weather in Scotland is usually still quite chilly in spring). The pattern is the easy Cowl Neck Dress from @sewoverit swipe to see the full dress. This incredible tree is in my neighbours yard and she happily watched while my son took these photos of me. My Christmas dress from last year that sat in the wardrobe following the disappointment that was last Christmas waiting for it's first outing finally got it! It's actually a fantastic mark of how far I've come because quite frankly the construction is shoddy compared to what I can achieve now! (Ad/pr) 💕💕 I realised today that I didn't share the @sewoveritlondon Cowl Neck Dress that I made in this gorgeous viscose jersey from @minervadotcom I made this dress a few months ago now and it has been a go to on my days off work! Its comfortable and looks effortlessly chic. I have paired it here with my Sew Over It Amelia Jacket, but also wear it around the house with a chunky jumper and a grey long wool coat. The fabric is a plum viscose jersey with a white pattern print. The dress itself is simple to make and on my took about an hour others up. The fabric went through my machine quite well once the right tension was found. The edges did curl over but lots of heat stopped that. I love this dress and I hope to add a few more to my autumn / winter wardrobe. They are comfortable to wear and easy to style. I have written a blog about this over on the Minerva website. My #soicowlneckdress made out of a stretch velvet from #abakhanfabrics Manchester. I went and got the fabric on the 23rd and ran up the dress last minute on Christmas Eve afternoon. I was really happy with how it draped and how effortlessly chic it looks. I wore it Christmas Day and it was going to be my New Years Dress, but the yearly lurgie has caught me. Back in 2017 i made this cowl neck top by @sewoveritlondon and it just wasn't working properly. So it sat in the naughty corner until a few months ago when i finally pulled it out and added elastic to the sleeve bands. I like it so much better now and it will get worn. 🌼 Me Made May - Day 9 🌼 Happy Monday! I hope you are having a lovely Monday and manage to get rid of those Monday blues. I am working in the office today and decided to wear my @SewOverItLondon Cowl Neck Dress in this gorgeous swan viscose jersey. I made this a few years ago (which is when the photos are also from) and it is a favourite in my work wardrobe. It's super comfortable, is effortless to style and I love how flattering it looks with a belt. I have paired my dress with black tights and trusty brown brouges. I did not plan all my clothes this week as I am off to London for two days and probably won't decide until the night before what to pack! Happy Friday! I hope you have had a good week and have a lovely weekend planned. Today I wanted to share a make that has been in my wardrobe for about a year now but I never got around to sharing! This is a gorgeous @SewOverItLondon Cowl Neck Dress made out of this beautiful Lady McElroy Cygnus Returns Viscose Jersey. I will be heading back into the office again in a few weeks time. That means I will need to look through my wardrobe and find some office wear...and hope it still fits! The Cowl Neck Dress is perfect for the office. It's easy to make, comfortable to wear and effortlessly styled. I usually wear my Cowl Neck with black tights, boots and a belt. You need a jersey with a good drape so you have a lovely flow in the neckline. A viscose jersey is perfect for that. I love how simple the dress is as it allows you to play with prints. I believe I got this fabric in one of the Sew Over It remnant sales last year. As much as I love viscose jersey it can be difficult to work with. It does move around when you cut it out and stretches easily! Since making this dress I have had to go back and taper the sleeves (especially around the wrist) as they stretched over time. However, it's all worth while as every time I wear this dress I feel great! I have a black viscose jersey version cut out and will try and run that up before I get back in the office. I'm hoping if I have a lovely work wardrobe it will give me a boost each morning. Anything to keep my mind off the commute! I have no plans this weekend so hope to spend time in front of my sewing machine! Have a lovely weekend. If you want to experience the “thrill” of sewing, try taping a new pattern, cutting the pieces, and sewing a dress the night before you need to wear it. I didn’t bring a lot of clothes with me to SoCal and I needed something fairly warm and kinda nice for an event. Luckily, I brought my fabric stash. This is the @sewoveritlondon Cowl Neck dress sewn in ponte di roma. It was a straight forward make and was finished it in time. 👉 this pattern only has three pieces! That’s it. 🎉 ponte di roma is a great knit to sew because it is a stable fabric and hides all the lumps and bumps. 😉 👉👉 I was debating sleeves or no sleeves… went with sleeves because anything below 75° is 🥶 now. 👉👉👉 I also made the Pisa bag so I can sneak my knitting with me. I used the scraps of this dress to make the bag lining. 👉👉👉👉 I got some extra fabric left so I had made a mask to match the bag 🤪. Pretty impressed with my ability to sew like the wind. Wore the #soicowlneckdress to a friend's wedding. Super comfortable, quick to sew up, and I got several compliments from people I didn't know, including a little girl (that's how you really know you did a good job). Fabric is a crushed velour from @joann_stores in the color fig. Winter weddings are the hardest to dress for in my opinion, so I was very happy to find an easy pattern I could sew up quickly in a dressier fabric. #memademay2022 Day 12: I am determined to feel better. …I realize that this is somewhat rich coming from a person who literally started their day by going back to bed, but oh well. It’s the thought that counts or whatever. I am feeling slightly better, though, and I am also very much happy with today’s outfit. It feels very me. The pants are once again RTW (and oh so comfortable), but the top is a #soicowlnecktop which I love a lot. Seriously, I feel like this is a very under appreciated pattern! It was so easy and quick to sew up and it looks so nice! I would recommend using a cotton jersey, though. I think it needs a little stability in the fabric to fall quite right. #soicowlneckdress with a tiny hack- added a tack to the front under bust to give it a slight empire line look. made an hour and a half before I had to catch a train to Scotland for a 90th birthday. still not sure how to finish the arm holes and neck so turned it under, ironed and hoped for the best. Rayon remnant from @sewoveritlondon. Trying for a 1940s vibe. Really happy but I keep leaving these things to the last minute then having to rush. Naughty. One day I will add sleeves to my dresses but I hate putting in sleeves.
