I read the instructions over and over, followed picture by picture, but somehow ended up with the pleats on the wrong side. Luckily the linen looks the same on both sides, but my stitching wasn't as neat on the back side. Sew Over It ranks as one of my favourite pattern shop, and I was so excited to be able to pay the physical shop a visit when I was in London 2 years back. Today I made this #soiemmelineskirt and to be honest, I’m not sure I’ll ever wear it. As with my last button-up skirt, there’s not a lot of room across the tummy and in hindsight I should’ve used a curved rather than straight waistband. It’s also quite sheer. Earlier this year I faced a challenge - outfit for my biggest business presentation of the year. The company where I work organises this big event once a year, this time in a super beautifull art deco hotel. 🏫🥂 And I wanted to be myself. Nice outfit, but ‘Adri style’. I have decided to make the SOI Emmeline skirt and to use this unique material that holds its shape. I recently picked up a vintage Vogue skirt pattern in a charity shop and took myself off to @fabricsgalorelondon to choose some fabric. This Alexander Henry choose itself but it would have been criminal to cut up these border print Frida Kahlos into the tiered style of the Vogue skirt so I had to come up with something else, I’ll make the Vogue one another day. I choose to hack the @sewoveritlondon Emmeline skirt. I lengthened it to midi, didn’t bother with the belt and belt loops and altered the front so that it was one piece instead of the button up front. I then added an extra box pleat in the front and sewed it so that the half stitching continued a little further. The skirt was quite easy. Taking photos in the wind not so much! Just finished my @sewoveritlondon #soiemmelineskirt. Left off the waist band as it was too high on me and the tie belt as it looked too busy. Enjoyed making it-easy to make. Made a size 14 with no adjustments. Fabric: cotton from montreux fabrics and the #knittingandstitchingshow last spring. Buttons: @fabriclanduk and they are the perfect match to the aqua. Here’s my summery version of @sewoveritlondon #soiemmelineskirt skirt. I loved the pleat detail and the floaty nature of this fabric. It makes me feel super elegant. I wore this skirt to an interview in the summer as I felt it expressed a bit of who I am in the style of it. The sparkly blue buttons add a dash of interest to this floral fabric. They depth of colour in the pattern is really beautiful. I also used this fabric to line a jacket I made earlier in the year. Such lovely fabric. I might be super-excited about this skirt. I’d originally earmarked the fabric for a child-sized dress, but I just love it so much - enough that what I really want is something for me. There’s a holiday potluck at the office next week and I fully intend to wear this with a mustard-coloured top that’s the same shade as the little scarves. I can say for absolute certain that nobody will be surprised when I show up with a cat skirt.

I made my first @sewoveritlondon #soiemmelineskirt in a fun dark blue cotton with little red flowers in bottles.This was a great pattern to follow - very clear instructions and photos. I also love the shape of this skirt. The pleats make the high-waisted skirt smooth around the waist area, but still gives the skirt a fun flair and shape. Me Made May Day 19... It’s a special one today. My two year sewing anniversary. I remember the date because poor @ailz_ was trying to 5 people who had never threaded a machine to sew an Ogden in 3 hours when we all kept breaking off to watch the royal wedding! I’m celebrating by wearing a recreation of the first two things I ever made. A @truebias Ogden cami and a @sewoveritlondon emmeline skirt. It was complete innocence that made me pick the emmeline for my first solo project. That being said it’s a lovely project and when made it cotton lawn is really quite simple. I made a size 10 in both and the only adjustment was to take 1inch from the rise of the skirt. The Ogden is made in gorgeous dashwood rayon from @thedabhand and the emmeline is made in Lisa Comfort cotton lawn. I love them both together with this Lisa Comfort cardigan. I am trying to use my stash up as much as I can this year. I brought this liberty cotton lawn a year or so ago. However I never knew what to use it for as cotton lawn is so thin and delicate. The #soiemmelineskirt is perfect for this fabric. I lined the whole skirt with some navy cotton to add some weight.
