🖤🤍🖤 I've been meaning to make a shirt dress for a while now, and I'm also trying to use up most of my fabric stash to make way for some lovely new fabrics, so this dress ticked both boxes ✔️ I picked up this lovely geometric print fabric from @thimblesfabricsncrafts at the creative craft show in Glasgow last year, I loved the pattern, but I wasn't sure what to make with it? After rummaging through my patterns, I discovered the #soiflorencedress . This pattern came free with one of the issues from @simplysewingmag . This is a shirt dress ,which only has 3 buttons, I hate doing button holes, so this pattern really appealed to me ! I made version b ,then added a couple of inches to the length. I also shortened the sleeves by 2". This pattern doesn't come with a belt, but I made a d-ring belt to cinch in the waist (see pic 5) . I'm not sure if it's really me? I feel like I'm going for an interview 😅 I normally don't wear shirt dresses very often,however, with the addition of a leather jacket and a belt ,It feels a bit more casual, so hopefully I will get some wear out of it. Florence 💜🌸 This was a pattern I’d never really been aware of, but when I needed to make a special dress earlier in the year, I headed straight to the @sewoveritlondon website as they have such a back catalogue of beautiful designs. I was drawn to the Florence because of the sleek design (I didn’t want to be swamped in fabric) and the cinched in waist, which I love. We were asked to wear colour for our beautiful friend’s funeral, so it seemed like the right time to sew up this stunning @cloth_edit fabric. It’s an @artluxfabrics viscose morocaine that came in the last Club Cloth Edit box. The design and colours are just sensational. I made the size 10, which matched my body measurements pretty closely. I decided I wanted the sleeves to be a bit longer and with an elasticated cuff. I messed this up a little though (probably - definitely - due to rushing in the end). When extending the sleeve piece, I didn’t add any width, just followed the existing lines of the pattern which were actually becoming narrower. I then chopped a bit too much off before creating the elastic channel, so the sleeves aren’t the length I wanted and they’re a little snug. It doesn’t bother me too much though. I have since made another Florence and put this right, which has definitely made a more comfortable sleeve! I recently wore this dress again for a meal and theatre trip with my lovely mum. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel wearing the dress again, but it actually felt really special ❤️ #ClothEditMaker24 #SewOverIt #SOIFlorenceDress

Say hello to Florence! She’s a favourite pattern for a longer length dress and so this is my fourth or fifth version now! I replaced the elastic in the waist channel with ribbon which I find more comfortable, did a narrow shoulder adjustment, and didn’t bother with functioning buttonholes as the dress goes over my head no problem. I put make up on today as I left the house to socialize with people and definitely need some help to have some colour given I’ve not been sleeping courtesy of the spicy cough. Being as I had put my face on 😂 I felt like it was time to try on and photograph this dress I completed a couple of weeks ago. I love the look of the dress and the style. Unfortunately it’s just a little snugger across my shoulders than anticipated but not uncomfortably so however I won’t be wearing it with the top buttons done up anytime soon. I really took my time with sewing this dress. My sewjo has been very stop and start this year but I really enjoyed this sew and just taking my time. All seams were frenched except for the waist which created an elastic channel. I even hand sewed the collar down and the buttons (I normally use my machine for buttons these days). I've not worn this dress much - mostly because I need to alter the sleeves and I keep putting it off. But it seemed like a good dress for a Friday and can get away with rolling up the sleeves... Its the @sewoveritlondon Florence dress in a floral viscose. I love the print and the viscose itself feels lovely, although I can't remember where it got it. I just completed this very 70s @sewoveritlondon Florence Dress and I’m so happy with it! 👗 I hacked the pattern to have neck ties, puff sleeves, a gathered panel on bottom of the skirt and pockets (less of a hack, more of a necessity IMO). Me Made May Day 18... Not really warm enough for this dress outside but that's OK as I won't go out much today and used to experiment with shirring... This is a Sew Over It Florence dress but the bodice wasn't long enough when I originally made it for my liking (if you can see in left image). Adding the shirring lowered the look (and feel) of the waist so I'm much happier with it. My first two rows were terrible so after reading the guide to shirring from Tilly & The Buttons, I rewound the bobbin and made sure the elastic was in my bobbin hook and tried again. As I was finishing up my latest make from this Sunday’s @southernsewcial I realised I hadn’t posted last months sewcial make. I used this beautiful viscose twill which was picked up from the swaps table at the sewcial. Thank you whoever donated this.

We are absolutely blown away by this gorgeous version of our Florence Dress made by @sewn_on_the_tyne 🌸🌼🌺 The pattern features a button-up bodice with a pretty mandarin collar, 3/4 length sleeves, and an easy-fit elasticated waist. Make it knee-length or maxi like Tamlyn's for a swishy statement dress!

#sewnine for 2024. I've got some things from previous year and some things new. I do hope for a better result than last year :D 1. So Over it #soiflorencedress - it looks so pretty! I have several fabrics, most of them for spring/summer season. 2. Waffle patterns Bamboo coat. I have to sew lining and collar, then it's ready. 3. Two pairs of pj-s - I want something sewn for pj-s, not just the t-shirts that don't fit or look good to wear outside :D It's definitely time for new ones. 4. A summer dress for my little girl. I have bought several pretty dress patterns and my little one loves the twirling dresses, so why haven't I made any? 5. Finish the quilt for the sofa. It was last year one too. My couch really needs a quilt... 6. I started on my fringe bag, now I need to finish it. Too many UFO-s still here. 7. Enjoy sewing! Enough said :D 8. North Point trousers by Itch to Stitch - again a pattern I've been wanting to make for a long time. 9. Winterthur jacket by Itch to Stitch. I have the outer layer cut out, I think I haven't got to sewing yet. It would be great for the spring. I'll pin this to the top again and hopefully these all will be done by the end of the year. Our third wedding of the year! As this was a more formal wedding I wanted to make a long dress, so I went with the @sewoveritlondon Florence Dress (pattern was free with @simplysewingmag) in a gorgeous viscose challis from @poundfabrics. It was going to be my wearable toile but I loved it so much that I wore it to the wedding. It got lots of comments, so I'm glad I did! The fabric was quite slippery to work with, but apart from that sewed & pressed well & has a lovely drape. Up first: the #SOIFlorenceDress! Pretty happy with how this turned out overall. The pattern calls for a lightweight fabric with drape, but I wanted something heavier for winter, so I chose a twill. That colour 😍 It's slightly too narrow across the shoulders, so I've left off the top button as I'd never do it up. The thicker fabric means that the collar now feels quite structured and sticks up, but I don't mind it. So far it's super comfortable (hello, elasticated waist!) so I'm keen to do a couple more versions in cosy jerseys. A special dress for a special occasion. This is a #soiflorencedress with a few hacks. I cut the shorter version and added a gathered tier to make it maxi length and added ruffles around the sleeves. The fabric is a cosy brushed cotton. I've had this fabric in my stash for about a year. It came in my July '23 @sewhayleyjane box & is a viscose twill. I really love the bold colours, but was scared to use it & didn't know what to make. My husband turned 40 last weekend, so I made it into a @sewoveritlondon Florence Dress to wear for our meal out. Fabric was lovely to sew. I'm so pleased with how it turned out & the button holes worked much better on this version than my previous one (with no gaping!) #sewhayleyjanemakes #soiflorencedress

After my nightmare earlier of cutting a massive hole in one sleeve (just as I was about to move on to the final hemming…) I decided to just cut the sleeves off and sew exposed bias tape round the armholes. I don’t ever wear anything without sleeves anymore (dodgy arm needs covering) so who knows how much wear this will get 😫 With that in mind, I just used snaps rather than bother with buttonholes. The mandarin collar was a right faff on this, and I just about managed it - it fit one way, folded over, then didn’t fit the other - I ended up hand sewing as best as I could 😩 I’m not sure I would use this pattern again 🤔 This was #soiflorencedress with added #tatblyra pockets. Today I cut out a wearable toile of Sew Over It's Florence dress. The fabric is a viscose that has been loitering in my cupboard for ages. I'm not sure where it came from! I don't normally wear black, but this black fabric has teal fan shapes scattered over it, and it does have a lovely drape. I trace Sew Over It patterns, as that way I can use them for my daughter and myself, (we both love their patterns), plus it's easier to make alterations on a newly drafted pattern piece. Today I'm wearing my new Florence dress, from a Sew Over It pattern. It's one I finished last week and I'm really happy with it (but of course making some pattern alterations for next time!) This version is in a soft viscose that I've had in my sewing room for ever! I added my standard ¾" to the bodice length, and I added mock cuffs to the sleeves to gain a little extra length. I increased the number of buttons on the bodice too, as I always think More is More when it comes to bodice buttons ;) I've just been altering the pattern again to add another 1½" to the bodice length, but removing some from the back again for a sway back adjustment. I added 1" to the sleeve length, in addition to the cuffs, which I shall keep, as I like them! I've also tapered the sleeves, as I do have rather long, thin arms. I will also leave the buttonhole and button off of the collar as wearing it today I realised I'd wear it open-necked. Fond memories of a February weekend in my favorite US city: Austin. And of this Florence dress, which I feel is very much underrepresented in the sewing community, even though it’s got this kind of 70s casual glamour that should be appreciated a lot more! Of course it’s not yet the season in much of the northern hemisphere. It was in Texas though! I used a rayon crepe from Selfmade. My husband says it reminds him of his grandma’s dresses - not sure that’s a compliment, but I know he loved his grandma a lot!
