Wearing a new top today hot off the sewing machine. It’s the Sew Over It Susie blouse in a lovely soft cherry print cotton purchased from @poundfabrics . The collar (swipe to see a better photo) was a little tricky, sewing the facing and the collar together and then trimming and clipping the seam allowance. I’m always nervous of clipping a bit too far and cutting through the stitch line. #memademay2022 Day 27: fancy Friday. I’m off work today, but I kind of dressed for a day at the office. It’s a comfortable outfit, though, and it works well for the odd weather we’re having. New make! This is the @sewoveritlondon #soisusieblouse. I’ve been wanting to make this pattern for ages and it didn’t disappoint. It came together really quickly and I used less than 1.5m for a size 10. It’s a great one to sew up in a print cotton like this amazing one from @heysewsister.co.uk ✨ I added black piping to the collar to make it stand out. It would also look super cute with contrast fabric for the collar and cuffs. I’m already planning another one! #memademay2022 or the horribly awkward exercise of taking pictures of myself. The main reason I don’t post much is because of how much I actually hate taking the pictures. I have plenty of things I’d like to share, but I never get around to photographing them. So part of my pledge for #memademay will be to just take the pictures anyway. That’s not what it’s about, though, so here’s my actual pledge: I will use this month to take stock of my memade wardrobe so far and examine which items I really love and why. I will also pay attention to how my sewing has evolved over time, both in terms of style and skill. And I will pay particular attention to how my memade pieces fit in with the rest of my wardrobe. Hopefully, this will enable me to be more conscious and sustainable in my making in the future. So for my first post of #memademay2022 I have pulled out one of my first ever memades, a #soisusieblouse. This one is special to me not just because it’s one of my first self-made garments, but also because this fabric was a surprise present from my husband so it’s connected to a whole bunch of positive emotions. I don’t wear it that often, though, and I’m not sure why.

It's #memademay2021 day 3! I'm wearing one of the very first things I ever made - a #soisusieblouse by @sewoveritlondon. The collar and cuffs made from parts of an old shirt that didn't fit me well. The green fabric is a broadcloth that's probably a little too heavy and doesn't have enough drape for this pattern, but I still love this shirt and I'll still wear it. I made fabric covered buttons for the cuffs. I didn't yet know that buttonholes needed to be interfaced so the buttonholes aren't very functional, but it's all part of the learning experience! The sleeves are somewhat hacked - I slashed and spread them to be sort of very slim bishop sleeves, added the buttons cuff using the Cheyenne tunic cuff pattern pieces. It's far from perfect but it's very cute and I love this shirt. A recent make - the Susie Blouse by @sewoveritlondon I adore this fabric from Liberty. It’s a cotton poplin with the historic building plans as the print. It perfectly combines my hobby with my professional job! The collar and cuffs are Liberty Tana lawn which matches perfectly. I’ve already bought more of the poplin in the different colourway. 😍😍 it’s from the new collection at Liberty SS25: Retold which celebrates 150years of Liberty. It was a great simple sew. I made this #soisusieblouse two years ago and I am quite happy with it. The pink fabric is viscose and the white is just some polyester. I opted for the mid length sleeve and put the cuffs anyway. The size is 8, which is the smallest. It fits well but I think that next time I make this blouse, I definitely want a size bigger as it is supposed to be loose. Finally the Susie blouse made it to the top of the pile. I’ve wanted to make this blouse for the longest time but somehow never got around to it. Well, today was the day, and oh boy, what a lovely blouse💖. It is so simple but still has a lot of character. It was a quick and easy make and the only alteration I did was to shorten the sleeves by 4cm. Because the fabric was so thin I French seamed it🇫🇷🪡 so it won’t fray at the edges after the first wash. See final four pics. First time I’ve French seamed the sleeve caps…it’s not perfect but it looks neat. I’m so proud of myself✌🏼. Yesterday I enjoyed a lovely day at The Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace with friends. It gave me the opportunity to wear my latest two makes. My top is the Sew Over It Susie Blouse. I've made this pattern a couple of times now as I love the neckline and fit. My fabric is The Crafty Pies Vintage Embroidery Viscose that I bought from Sew Much Moor. My skirt is the Tilly and the Buttons Bibi skirt from The Stretch Book. It came about by a happy accident. I had been trying to buy some stretch corduroy online to make the TATB Ramona skirt, but I mistakenly bought a stretch corduroy jersey rather than just a stretch corduroy🤦‍♀️ The Bibi skirt was one of the first garments I made when I started sewing 2 years ago. I can't believe I haven't made this pattern since. I love it on and it's so comfy to wear. I will definitely be making it again. 🎄🧵 Sew Over It Susie Blouse🧵🎄 Starting to feel a little more festive now I have some more Christmas garments in my wardrobe! This is a lovely @SewOverItLondon Susie Blouse made in this gorgeous Cotton I picked up from @fleur.et.ours. There are so many beautiful fabrics on their website but I couldn't resist this beautiful Christmas fabric. I had hoped to make the Susie dress hack, but I didn't quite have enough fabric for this. I'm actually quite glad as I need more blouses in my wardrobe and this works perfectly paired with jeans and also with skirts for the office! I do need more blouses and tops in my wardrobe and so glad that I have this pattern a go. I am definitely going to be adding more Susie Blouses into my wardrobe! I added a contrast black collar and cuffs which I think works so well! I picked up a couple of half meters cotton in black and grey, but the black worked the best and picked up the fireplaces in the print. The Susie Blouse comes in UK size 8 (33"/26"/36") to size 20 (45"/38"/48"). As I ended up making just the blouse I made a size 10 and found this worked quite well and was comfortable to wear. I wore this to a festive pub quiz earlier in the week and won us an additional 5 points! We even managed to win! I had such a great day yesterday with friends at The Stitch Festival, Business Design Centre, London. I got to meet and chat to the lovely ladies on the Sew Over It stand when I collected my preorder pattern. Great idea by the way ladies! I also called in on the Juki stand to catch up with Nathan from Franklins Colchester who is always helpful and full of advice about my Juki machines. I chose to wear my Sew Over It Susie Blouse worn over my Sew Over It Ultimate Trousers. I have made a couple of these Susie blouses now as it fits beautifully and I love this collar! The cotton fabric is from Just Sew Penrith. These Ultimate trousers were the first pair of trousers I had ever made and this pattern is now my go to for trousers. I have made several pairs now and have also made them in to crops for the summer. I followed the tutorial to add a waistband and find this give a great fit on me. The invisible side zip means they are very flattering across the tummy. Back in February I came across this pattern when Sew Over It had a week of one day sales on different things. My first thought was #patinablouse as I’ve been admiring its V-neck collar. So when the Susie Blouse popped up with the same detail at a fraction of the cost, despite banning myself from buying patterns, I had to get it. Straight away I thought of how to hack this to create a faux placket, but I decided to make it as it comes first so I could practice the collar. I’ve made it in a red linen to wear with my #mnveronika skirt this weekend. Really left it to the last minute for this one 😂 or did I already passed the deadline?? Anyhow I’m pretty pleased with myself for digging out this A0 printed pattern and making it up for #sewthatpatternnow2021 @sewitcurly @justaddfabric @coffeeandthread I printed this @sewoveritlondon #soisusieblouse ages ago and just never got round to it for some reason. This is a size 10 shoulder/neckline/armscye with a size 8 bodice. I shifted the dart and shortened it a little. Also added a bit more volume and length to the short sleeves by slashing and spreading. I was debating whether or not to add a sleeve cuff but decided to go with a small hem and a little pleat instead. I’m quite happy with the sleeves but not sure about the overall blouse. I actually finished it about a week ago and then left it as it made me feel little matronly? Thoughts?
