With the fabric that was left over from the bridesmaid dresses I was able to create 8 ties and 8 pocket squares for my groom and bridal party. I loved seeing how well the men matched the bridesmaids on the day! Again, it was sooo much cheaper than buying all of these and it’s such an easy pattern to complete. It’s a match! On Thursday we celebrated one of my oldest friends getting married! It was such a lovely day. I wore my new Eve dress and made a matching mask and a matching tie for my partner. He has given me some feedback so I can amend the pattern to suit his preferences. My impression was there might have been a little bit of stretch in the fabric... so I put a light interfacing on it. But actually I think it was just because it’s cut on the bias. I’m excited share a few makes I made for Ben and I to attend our running club’s 35th anniversary party. My jumpsuit is the #closetcorepauline bodice by @closetcorepatterns with the #lockhartjumpsuit trousers by @helens__closet If you saw my previous post, you will have seen my toile of the Pauline dress and I had to make many changes to get it to fit well. The trousers also involved a bit of tweaking and an extra dart. It was totally worth the effort and I love the toile and final jumpsuit! The jumpsuit fabric is from @fabricgodmother and is a beautiful viscose satin. It has such a lovely weight and drape. I’m in love! The slight issue with the fabric though is how slippy it is so the ties required a lot of spray starch to get them to hold a bow. 😅 I’m pleased with the pattern matching (sort of!) on the back bodice princess seams and with the insertion of my invisible zip. It took a few goes to get the trouser length exactly where I wanted them with my high heels on and I think I nailed it. 👍 The jewellery is fab and I got it at the #knittingandstitchingshow but I misremembered the colours in the jumpsuit so there isn’t actually red in it. I’m still happy with how it looked with the jumpsuit though and I matched my nails to the jewellery to try to tie it all together. Ben’s shirt is the #Cameronshirt by @helens__closet which I have adjusted to fit him. It took a bit of unpicking because I firstly put the pocket on the wrong side so I had to recut the left side and then I wasn’t happy with the pocket placement after I’d finished the final shirt and Ben tried it on so I very carefully unpicked it and resewed it. It’s easy to see unpicking on this material but I fortunately got away with it. I used the inside of one of his old ties and adjusted the #soitie to fit the shape. The tie was a much easier sew than the first time I tried to sew a tie which was a bit of a disaster tbh

I made a tie for my son! This beginner friendly pattern is by @sewoveritlondon. Main fabric is a cotton sateen and the lining is a woven jacquard, both from @minervadotcom. The pattern calls for “domette” on the inside as wadding. Had no idea what that was so I used the thick lining from inside an old ironing board cover. #fangirlalert , I’ve just found out that my favourite fabric shop @sewanonymousofficial and the company that inspired me to start sewing vintage style clothes @sewoverit are collaborating! More than 8 years ago, Sew over it and @lisacomfort drew me into their shop in Islington for a beginners course, I made a bag and cushion cover, I signed up immediately for the beginners circle skirt course and after that I was hooked. I have almost all of their patterns which are among some of the most user friendly I have found and I often go back to them over and over. My favourite is probably the #soivintageshirtdress which was one of my first makes from a true 70s deadstock fabric. I still wear it now. More recently I made a beautiful #soipennydress in a gorgeous dashwood fabric I bought at Sew Anonymous. Now I make clothes for my babies from the @poppyandjazz range which go up to age 7 now I think. I’m thrilled with this and can’t wait to see where it goes. Another me-made present I finally delivered: I made my dad a tie and face covering set and a matching drawstring as the wrapping. 👔😷👗 Matchy Matchy! 👗 😷 👔 Over the last month I’ve slowly been working on a new dress for a wedding we’ve been invited to later this week. It’s another Eve dress in a crepe fabric. I have also made a matching mask and a tie for my partner. The mask was simple and I used a white cotton for the extra layer. The tie was a little more tricky as I had to interface the fabric as it had far too much drape to be stable enough for the pattern. I cut the pattern and interfacing but found that the fabric had distorted and was not the right shape once I got to interfacing. Thankfully I had a lot of fabric left over so I ironed the interfacing onto the fabric and then cut the tie out which worked really well. My slip stitching is terrible but I’m pretty sure no one but me and my partner will be looking at the back of the tie. It’s been fun to make all the matching items and hope it’s not too over the top. so I haven't posted in a while because it's been all hands on deck getting ready for our civil partnership! now that's out of the way I have a whole lot more time to post what I make. for the civil partnership my mom made my dress, and I made my bag, David's tie and pocket square (which was my first ever experience of sewing silk and it was a bit of a disaster. Luckily most of the pocket square ended up shoved in the pocket out of sight!). I'm really pleased with how it came together, although I didn't anticipate that the dress would move around a lot in the front and I ended up needing to safety pin it to prevent accidentally flashing anyone, which lead to it pulling a bit. Apart from that it was exactly what I imagined and I'm really grateful to my mom for lending her skills! In November 2019 I decided to have a go at some ties and matching pocket squares for some of the men in my family. I thought it would be a great item to use up any left over fabric.
