Well I've cut out all the paper pieces for my coat and they are now sat waiting for me to attach to the fabric. Wow its a big pile and it looks daunting. However just to get my eye back in as it's been a while since I sewed, I've made up a new skirt for work. This is the #sewoverit ivy skirt which features a faux wrap. This hits just below my knee and its a beautifully soft needlecord fabric which I got from pound fabrics for just £5.50 a metre. I think I used less than 1.5 m as there's loads left so well under £10 for a new skirt and I braved an invisible zip which despite being black blends in quite well. I was to eager to get the skirt finished than wait to get a zip the right colour. There may even be enough fabric left to get another shorter A line skirt made. Ready for autumn with my latest make, a @sewoveritlondon Ivy Skirt from one of the old @lisacomforthome magazines. I made it from a toasty stretch needlecord that I got from @newcrafthouse a while ago and lined it with a nude lining fabric, also from NCH. Thanks to @julieclairej for helping me figure out how to line it - I’d thought it was going to be complicated because of the wrap parts but actually it’s a faux wrap as it has an invisible zip in the centre-back so I just lined it like you would a regular pencil skirt and hemmed the lining a little higher so it can’t be seen where the front and under wraps meet at the centre front (which is my favourite part on this pattern, I love the little V they create 😁) I cut version 1 (the longer length) in a size 12 with no pattern adjustments. I remade this blue wool coat into an Ivy Skirt. The coat is beautiful on the hanger, but is too wide on me 😭. I'm still glad that I reused this fabric. I made a rock (skirt) for rOcktober and #magamsewalong hosted by @salixsews @suestoney and @sewing_in_spain The skirt is @sewoveritlondon #soiivyskirt. The first version wasn’t “rockin”. I took it in - a lot - for a more pencil skirt shape, shortened it and really exaggerated the asymmetrical front. Even with a leather jacket and boots. I spent last weekend cutting fabric for 4 different projects including the Ivy skirt from #lisacomfortmag. Thank you @lovetosew.podcast for the idea on batching tasks! Pattern: @sewoveritlondon Ivy skirt Fabric: cotton velveteen from @moodfabrics I was so excited when I saw that this pattern was included in a @simplysewingmag so I had to order it. I think this pattern was easy to work with and I love that Sew Over It instructions always tell you which seams to serge. I chose the “mini skirt” length and hemmed it at 1” instead of 5/8”. I like this length for work and it’s perfect with heels. I really enjoyed working with this fabric - the perfect weight for this project, easy to work with (I didn’t even pin the darts), and didn’t require pattern-matching! I can't wait to wear it 🌟 I find it such a fun make and again it was made with only the one alteration where I shortened it. 📏 I think I took about 5" off the short version of the pattern. I made another skirt! I probably won’t be wearing this until I can go back to work, but I’ve been meaning to work with this fabric for years! This is the Ivy skirt by @sewoveritlondon in a mystery fabric from my stash. I can’t remember where I bought it or its composition (sorry 😕), but I think it’s a wool or a wool blend because it was easy to shape with steam. For the fit, this pattern's smallest size is an inch larger than my waist measurement (26” whereas my waist is 25”), so I removed an inch in total at the waist from the side seams and graded to the size 8 at the hips. Je ne la porterai probablement pas avant de reprendre mon travail, mais j'avais l'intention de coudre ce tissu depuis des années ! Voici la jupe Ivy de @sewoveritlondon dans un tissu misterieux. Je ne me souviens plus où je l'ai acheté ni de sa composition (désolée 😕), mais je pense que c'est une laine ou un mélange avec de la laine car il était facile à façonner avec de la vapeur. Pour l'ajustment, la plus petite taille disponible du patron est 2,5 cm plus grand que ma taille (66 cm alors que mon tours de taille est de 63,5 cm). J'ai donc enlevé 2,5 cm total des coutures de côtés et j'ai redéssiné la ligne entre cette nouvelle taille et la taille 8 aux hanches. Je suis très contente avec le résultat et heureuse d'avoir enfin cousu ce tissu ! Sewing focus for June: Skirts Having rummaged through my wardrobe whilst having a clear out, I identified a real gap in my wardrobe, and that is skirts. Whilst I own quite a few gorgeous collectif skirts, I feel the need for some more daytime-ey skirts to go with tops on the weekend or, when I finally manage to get a proper job, with shirts for work. Taking time to go through my wardrobe and identify the gaps in it really has been quite invaluble and will help me to be a more conscious and practical sewer going forward. Realistically I'd love to continually make beautiful cotton sundresses but they are not the kind of thing I would actually wear on an every day basis, and so I need to be more considered with my choice of projects going forward. #sewing #soiavaskirt #sewingmiette #soiivyskirt #camdenskirt #sewingplanning #realisticsewing
