Join Becky @notes_from_the_sewing_room as she sews our Toiletries Bag! Seam allowance: 2cm. 1. Place all four pieces of fabric on top of each other, aligning raw edges, lay the zip centrally along the top edge. Cut a notch at the start of the zip teeth and a second notch at the end of the zip teeth. 2. Take the two outer fabric pieces and place them right sides together, pin along the notched edge. Sew from one edge up to the first notch and backstitch. At the notch change to a longer stitch length and continue to the second notch. Switch back to a regular stitch length from the second notch to the edge and backstitch. 3. Pin the zip to the back of the seam, ensuring the zip teeth are sitting exactly on the seam. Now turn it over and pin in place from the right side of the fabric. 4. Change to a zipper foot on the machine and sew on the zip. Remove the long stitches along the zip teeth. 5. With the zip open, place the bag right sides together and pin together. Switch bag to a regular foot on your machine. Stitch around the sides and bottom edges. Trim the seam allowances and corners. 6. Keep the bag inside out and flatten the bottom corners aligning the side seam and bottom seam. Place a pin along the seam line to ensure they are matched up. Measure 5cm down from the point of the triangle and draw a guideline perpendicular to the seam line creating a triangle. Stitch along this line, backstitching at either end. Repeat on both corners. Trim the corners. 7. Place the lining pieces right sides together, matching notches. Pin and start sewing along the edge of the lining from one of the notches. Sew around the three sides, finishing at the notch on the other side. 8. Turn the lining the right way out and drop the main bag (inside out) into the lining so they are sitting wrong sides together. Match the lining opening to the bag opening. Pin the lining to zip tape. Slip stitch in place by hand. 9. You’ve made a lined toiletries bag, complete with a zip!
