Proudest make of the Christmas period: two @poppyandjazz walnut duffle coats made as gifts Sorry if you’re fed up seeing me go on about these coats but I am so pleased with how they turned out and my sister and friend loved them when they were gifted I took my time and definitely procrastinated more than I needed to when making them I made age 3-4 for both coats and traced the pattern so I can make more in different sizes. I used wool from @likesewamazing for the red coat and wool from @sewoveritlondon for the green coat I really dithered over whether to make my own toggle fastenings or buy a set and in the end went with @prym.consumer packs I ordered the toggle packs a few days before Christmas from @likesewamazing and Sarah posted them off so quickly they arrived Christmas Eve which meant I was able to finish them in time for Christmas! My third @PoppyAndJazz #WalnutDuffleCoat is finally done and just in time for the weather to get really cold ❄️! I started this last January but lost steam when it got warm out. I made the size 3-4 and did a combo of both lining the coat and bias binding the edges. I used a Red Sox quilting fabric for the binding and I love the little pop of color it adds ♥️ ⚾️. Some @poppyandjazz #WalnutDuffleCoat details! I had so much fun making this coat with lots of firsts for me - using wool coating, making a coat, making something fully lined, making a little coat hang-y thing (technical term 🤓). I made a size 3-4 year for my niece who is 2.5 years old. It’s a bit oversized, but because I did a hybrid of versions (fully lined, but also with bound edges) the inside of the sleeves when rolled up are 👌. It should definitely fit her for a couple of winters ❄️. I decided that using cording would be too simple 🤦🏻‍♀️ so I made some strips of binding and used those to create the toggle closures. I love the finish it gives the coat 🥰. Hello it’s me again, here to share something else I made - surprise surprise. I mostly finished this little coat a few weeks ago but I had to wait on spring snaps from @wawaksewing for it to be truly ~*finished*~ This is a [late] birthday gift for my honorary niece. If you’ve been here a little while you remember my green coat - this one is made from what was left over. The lining is made from the leftovers of my flannel lined jeans. I have no idea where the silky fabric I used for the sleeve lining came from. This was made using the #walnutdufflecoat pattern from poppy and jazz. The coat was made from a boiled wool coating knit in a fabulous bottle green colour. She added a Sherpa lined hood for “fall asleep in the car seat” comfort. It's finally a rainy day here! 🌧 As I dressed my daughter with her #walnutdufflecoat this morning, I remembered I haven't shared a picture of her wearing it yet! . You see, I kept trying to get better quality pictures/ pictures that will fit my page aesthetic, but let's face it - that's not going to happen with a very curious and energetic two year old! So there you have it, a collection of all my attempts so far 😅 . The pattern is from @sewoveritlondon ❤ The coat is made from a quilted cotton I got in Tokyo, when I was 6 months pregnant with Gaya :) Back then we called her "Bananit" ("little banana girl" in Hebrew), so the fabric basically called her name. #SOIwalnutdufflecoat this was a fun and challenging sew. I decided i needed to use this fuzzy backed corduroy as soon as I saw it in the @fabricanastore when i went t to get wool coating. While I’m cutting and sewing thinking thank goodness this is a child size. I am also planning to make a chore coat for myself. 😂 lots of fluff all over me and the craft room’. But it is just as I pictured it. I just hope it fits!
