🛰️ Orbit bag 🛰️ Definitely felt like the planets aligned 🪐 (pun intended) when @helens__closet released the #OrbitBag. Having an interest in orbital mechanics (it was the subject of my master thesis back in 2020), recently discovered bag making, and slowly but surely getting into quilting, I definitely *had to* make the orbit bag in a space themed fabric. The pattern is easy to follow and has smart construction details I really liked, particularly how the zip is sandwiched between the outer and inner layers. I have been using it since I finished it last week at every occasion and was able to snap a picture this weekend when we went to the mountains. 🪡🌼 Me Made May - Day 3 🌼🪡 Today I am wearing my rtw 'Mum' Jeans paired with my @SewOverItLondon Roxy Jumper and floral Amelia Jacket. Today was very much a case of comfort and whatever came to hand first. I've never really worn 'Mum' style jeans before so finding ways of wearing them and how to style them. I may also need to do some adjustments to the waist as they are a little bit loose. They are super comfy though!! Today didn't quite go as planned. I was supposed to have a flexi day from work and catch up with some bits and pieces and go to a couple of wedding appointments. Instead Spooky needed a quick trip to the vets to make sure he was ok after eating and wheezing on a bit of grass. He's all good and was perfectly fine and didn't understand why Mummy was so worried and was very cross that he didn't get fed till after lunch!! So I worked from home instead and wasn't too concerned about what I was wearing. Hence the frazzled face and messy hair 😂 quiet evening of kitten cuddles and a good historical fiction book for me! I’m sharing two new makes in this post - both of which are new to me patterns. They go together so well. 👗 Elsie skirt: I love the pleating on this skirt and it’s a shame they are invisible in this busy fabric. SOI’s careful positioning of the pleats means that they do not draw attention to my hips (the pleats are at the front and back of the skirt only, not the sides). I nearly missed this skirt when browsing for pleated skirts because the Elsie pattern has two versions; a dress and a skirt. It would be so glamourous in a brocade/jacquard...maybe one day! I made the skirt in a size 12 with no modifications. The skirt comes together very quickly and it is a simple sew. The hemming on the other hand...there’s a lot of it lol. 👚Roxy Jumper: This has been on my to-make list for far too long. It got bumped up because I really wanted a black top that I could wear with several of my high waisted skirts. It’s a shame I waited so long, especially as it comes together really quickly. I made version 3 of the jumper with the regular sleeve in a ponte roma. I made it in a size 10 at the bust (including the sleeves) and graded to a size 12 at the waist. As ponte is not as stretchy as other jersey fabrics, I did sew the sleeves/bodice with a 10mm seam allowance (which in turn meant I used the same seam allowance on the cuff and hem). If I was going to wear the Roxy with trousers or something that doesn’t have a high waist, I would need to add an inch or two to the length. This is going to be perfect to pair with the Elsie skirt, the SOI circle skirt and the SOI Xanthe that I have in my wardrobe. 🪐Roxy x Joni🪐 Finally giving in in the big sleeves energy! I love comfy knit dress and tend to sew one or two every year. The Joni skirt is a easily hackable swooshy skirt that I’m regularly using with different top patterns and this time I used it with the Roxy Jumper from sew over it. I chose this space print (sometimes you need to live up to your instagram handle 😅) and really like the end result. I think a version with velvet would be amazing for the holidays. I love an easy #sewing project sometimes and that’s exactly what this one was. I refashioned this jumper as part of the #sewupcycle22 #sewingchallenge hosted by myself and @sew.little.time last month. It started out as a ready to wear / shop bought dress but it was too short for me. So after getting a few suggestions from you and my lovely YouTube viewers (thank you 💖) I decided to hack the dress into a cropped jumper. I used the @sewoveritlondon #soiroxyjumper as a guide, changing the bodice pieces as needed and adding on a waistband. The neckline and arms stayed the same as the original dress 👗. So pleased how this worked out 💖 it literally took about half an hour to do and I’ve been wearing it loads. I love upcycling it’s so much fun, I definitely recommend you trying refashioning if you haven’t already 💖. Thanks to everyone who took part in #sewupcycle22 and to all of our amazing sponsors too. So this is kind of my first #makenine project, or at least half of one. It’s #soiroxyjumper but not in the planned fabric. However, it’s still one from my stash so I’m counting it. This fabric is all the way from Germany! I purchased it a couple of years back from a charity destash. It’s quite fitting then that I’ve sewn it up in connection with another good cause, #sewyellowforendo24 run by @sowhatifisew Roxy is one of my TNT patterns. I grade between a size 8 and 10 and add 7cm to the length. @kissntuss

It is nearly winter here. Perfect time to finally post pics of a #soiroxyjumper I made last spring 😜 I made one in merino last year and wanted to try it in a different fabric. This fabric is viscose knit adopted from a sale table at my local Spotlight. I am not into pink, but I loved this shade. I didn't do any fit adjustments, but looking at these photos I'm curious what I can do to eliminate the lines around the arms. I loved my stretch velvet version of the #soiroxyjumper that I made at Christmas time so much that I wanted another one. I wanted to be able to wear this one with jeans and have it be a more casual fabric. I lengthened this one by 2 inches and made it in a ponte knit from @stylemakerfabrics and I love it. It's just an elevated sweatshirt that looks way more put together than it feels! And, it sews up SO fast. Here are my creative goals for 2024. My main goal is to use patterns and fabrics that I already own. With that in mind I’ve chosen these 9 projects. 1) #soiroxyjumper in a knit a friend passed on to me. This should be a quick make as I’ve made the pattern a couple of times already. 2) #DDfumeterre using a lovely weight cotton from the same friend. To my utter delight I just discovered I’ve traced off the pattern already so I just need to get cutting. 3) #bhlmarie with the pie crust collar. This fabric is leftover from a previous project. I have enough to make the dress but swaying towards making the blouse. 4)#soiisladress is probably one of the first patterns I bought but I’ve never made it. This gorgeous viscose is something I purchased an age ago too for a project that never happened. Let’s make this happen this year. 5) My wild card is another beautiful fabric from that generous friend. I don’t know what to make but I know I need this fabric in my wardrobe. 6) Complete my #habanasweater ready for spring, hopefully. 7) #soiellablouse using a polyester another friend gave me. I plan to wear it layered over other things. 8) A constant feature on my #makenine - the #marabralette must happen this year, surely! 9) Finally, I want to complete this jumper for hubby. Sewing sweaters out of sweater knit is WAY faster than knitting them. 😉 I found this incredibly soft sweater knit in the sale section of @stylemakerfabrics and I am so glad I snagged both pieces they had left! I used the #appletondress pattern by @cashmerette (size 14, C/D) and added the sleeves from the #soiroxyjumper by @sewoveritlondon . I decided several months ago to abandon my #makenine2020 as over half the items on there were meant for our 10 year wedding anniversary trip to Mauritius in June which obvs never happened because...rona 😢 So instead I present my alternative makenine, made up by me 😂, which is a celebration of my continued fan-girl obsession with @sewoveritlondon and another year as one of their Pattern Insiders. Sew Over It release a new pdf pattern every month and as Pattern Insiders we get early access (and free printing) so we can make up the garment ready for launch day. There is no obligation to make the pattern every month but as SOI patterns usually suit and fit me so well I do end up making most of them! This year I made 9 out of the 12 that were released.
