🪻🧵 Me Made May - Day 5 🧵🪻 We went for a lovely walk in the sun this morning and enjoyed some beautiful views and said hello to all the lambs in the fields. I don't have many me made t-shirts and tops that are good for walking, but I have made a note of that. I definitely need some more t-shirt or casual blouses in my wardrobe. This afternoon we went for tea and cake with my mum and step dad and I wore my Sew Over It Zadie Blouse made in a lovely cream gauze. The blouse is closed with Ethel & Joan buttons from @sewanonymousofficial. The fabric was lovely and cooling and great for keeping the sun off my shoulders. I didn't manage to get a photo of my house so I'm reusing an old photo! I'm currently tucked up with a blanket, listening to Rex Factor Podcast and hand stitching a waistband. 🐈‍⬛🧵 Cat Print Zadie Blouse🧵🐈‍⬛ Those of you who follow me may know how much I love @sewoveritlondon Zadie Blouse! I knew I wanted to add a couple more into my wardrobe as they are perfect for work working from home or heading out with friends. I find the Zadie Blouse really easy to pair with various separates I have. This version is made in a lovely soft and drapey cream viscose with a burgundy cat print I found on eBay. I'm always on the look out for cat fabric 😻😉 I used some pinky vintage buttons from my collection. As with my other versions the buttons are seen directly onto the placket whilst the cuffs do have button holes. I made this version in size 10 and find it fits me really well. The blouse is long enough to be worn out or tucked in. I typically wear my blouses tucked in as I prefer this look on me. I've paired it with a pair of new high waisted ankle length trousers and can see this being a go to in the spring (and warmer) weather. For now it's great paired with a Ava Skirt, black tights and boots or with jeans. I'm really pleased with how this version came out and have worn it a lot for work. It's lovely and soft and it feels an effortless and easy piece to pair in my wardrobe. I am so tempted to run up some more versions, but I am very much focusing on sewing a gift this weekend and then focusing on my honeymoon/summer wardrobe. Gifted pattern/ Ad #soipatterninsiders Meet Xanthe, the latest @sewoveritlondon skirt pattern. I filled a wardrobe gap by sewing up a dark denim Xanthe skirt. If you are nervous about sewing up a zip fly, this is a great project to get you started. I think the last time I sewed a zip fly was three years ago. I sewed #soixantheskirt in size 10. For my height modification, I shorted the height of the waistband by .5 inches and omitted the belt loops. 🪻🧵 Lise Tailor Zadie Blouse🧵🪻 In the summer we visited Lyon and went to the beautiful Lise Tailor shop. I went in and saw so many beautiful fabrics, haberdashery and buttons. I ordered myself a beautiful cat print and this lovely floral viscose. I knew I wanted to make a Sew Over It Zadie Blouse with this fabric and spent a lunch break searching through the variety of buttons on Lise Tailors website. There were so many to choose from but I finally decided on these lovely mustard buttons as I knew they would stand out against the navy. The Zadie Blouse is one of my favourite blouses and goes so well with Ava Skirts, pencil skirts for work and wearing casually with jeans. Here I have paired it with my newest Sew Over It Ava Skirt, but have also worn it casually with a pair of jeans. This blouse is a really lovely addition in my wardrobe and it's one of the blouses I reach for frequently. The fabric feels really luxurious and I always feel very chic wearing it. It's such a special fabric and a lovely treat to myself for my 30th. Now I just need to decide what to make with the cat fabric 🤔 I don't want it to become a fabric that sits in my stash and I'm too scared to cut into. I bought enough for a dress so I am going to monitor my 'go to' dresses over the next few weeks. Ever totally fallen out of love with a project before even finishing it? This is my WIP #soizadieblouse. I started it MONTHS ago in a pale pink plisse which turned out to be an absolute nightmare (impossible!) to sew, so I went back to my original #makenine plan of using this floral cotton lawn. I was inspired to finish it whilst watching Jess @sowhatifisew in her latest vlog and have made good progress from where I abandoned it several months ago. Today’s outfit for my second lecture of the Spring semester was a @sewoveritlondon Zadie blouse that I made early last year paired with a RTW corduroy skirt. The lecture went really well despite me feeling really nervous! It was my first time delivering that specific lecture and I wasn’t quite sure how my timings would work or whether it would interest the students. Despite that, the students were lovely and by the end of the session I felt like we’d had a really good discussion on the topic! It was also really cool to lecture on my specific research for a change (I usually lecture on a more general topic rather than my niche research). Easter outfit 🐰 Wearing a #soizadieblouse I made a few months ago out of a beautiful liberty lawn. I adapted the sleeve into 2 pieces as many versions I saw on ig had a peak at the end of the sleeve shoulder dart. Think it worked well. 🧵 Me Made May - Day 13🧵 It's been a very busy day sorting things out for work before some annual leave. The weather has gotten a bit cooler in the UK so I opted for a blouse and jeans. The blouse is kind of cheating....as I didn't actually make it! The blouse is a @SewOverItLondon Zadie sample that I picked up in their sample sale last year. It's made in a gorgeous Atelier Brunette viscose that is beautifully soft and has a lovely drape. This version also has darts and is the sample which is included in the Stitch School video! This was a right pain to sew! Well, the collar was anyway! It's a super slippery viscose deadstock print from Dressmaker Fabrics. The pattern is the Zadie blouse by Sew Over It, which I do really like. I think in a stable cotton it would probably be absolutely fine! You can't really see in the picture, but there's gathering detail on the front and back, a stand-up collar, it has raglan sleeves and buttoned cuffs. #sewoverit #soizadieblouse

Today I’m wearing a @sewoveritlondon Zadie blouse that I made last year. I absolutely love this top - it’s the perfect work blouse. I’ve been keeping an eye out for some fabric to make another Zadie blouse but haven’t seen anything quite right yet. I’ve noticed that I don’t buy fabric or sew quite as prolifically as I did earlier in my sewing journey, but I’m a little pickier with the fabrics now. Not my usual makes photos but I finally got some sewing done and wore it straight out to a day rave 😂 After my disastrous abandoned zadie blouse last year I wanted to try again with some adjustments I've come to realise I need! This is the size 18, larger block (d cup) @sewoveritlondon #soizadieblouse with a high round back adjustment. I also added some length to make it sit just below my hips. I made it in this beautiful floaty soft viscose (Can't remember where it's from though 🤦🏻‍♀️) I'm so happy with the finish of this and it was really comfortable to wear. I think next time though I would size down to the 16 on the smaller block and do a FBA as it does come up oversized on me. Alex and I are off to a big match for the local football team this afternoon so I wanted something comfortable and easy to layer. I opted for (another) @SewOverItLondon Zadie Blouse made in a beautiful cat print viscose. I picked up this fabric from eBay and it drapes beautifully, is super soft and washes really well. I've paired the blouse with a pair of rtw 'mum' jeans. I was always a bit skeptical of these style jeans and weather they would suit me, but these are super comfortable and I love how they look! I've been wearing these a lot and have another pair in grey with ripped knees. One of my aims of doing Me Made May was to review my wardrobe and see where I am lacking. I do feel like I am in need of t-shirts and more bouses. I've been keeping an eye on the hashtag and saving / making notes of the lovely separates that pop up for me to review at a later date. As tempting as it is to add yet more Zadie's in my wardrobe I do want to add a variety. I haven’t entered any sewing challenges before but decided to enter #sewaprilblouse2024 organised by Gabrielle @cloth_edit and Ruan @theyorkshiresewgirl This is the @sewoveritlondon Zadie Blouse made in Liberty silk. I wouldn’t choose or buy this fabric but John and I were in central London just before Easter, it was pouring with rain and we had 40 minutes before our table reservation so took shelter in Liberty on Regent Street. I was happy browsing but John decided to buy this beautiful silk fabric in a gorgeous teal colour which was perfect for a Zadie blouse. The photos don’t do the colour any justice. I have never been so terrified cutting into or sewing up fabric. Found matching buttons in Macculloch and Wallis. The fabric is really soft, lovely drape and can be paired with my existing wardrobe. The fabric was lovely to work with, pressed well and sewed up nicely. I was a little worried that the fabric and pattern pairing was wrong, but I was really happy with the overall result. It is so easy to pair the blouse with lots of separates in my wardrobe and makes it a perfect base layer. I made a size 10 and liked the overall oversized and flattering drape and fit. I used some beautiful @sewanonymousofficial Ethel and Joan Buttons. These buttons have a lovely fleck of colour and glitter to them and add a subtle amount of colour. I added an extra button towards the top of the buttons placket as I wanted to use them all up! My favourite pattern company are celebrating their 10th birthday this month and have asked people to share their favourite makes. I came across @sewoveritlondon when I was trying to work out how to sew together the pattern pieces for an unfinished garment that I'd inherited from my Mum. I ended up watching lots of their tutorials and sewalongs on You Tube while working out how to attach facings, sleeves and pockets. I successfully finished that garment and was inspired to buy a pattern. The first thing I made was an Eva skirt from an old curtain. I later joined their stitch school and haven't looked back since. I think it's really helped me get through the last year. Finding a new hobby and creative outlet has been so important to my mental health as I've been living alone and shielding, trying to work online full time while dealing with a chronic illness. Sewing and connecting with the sewing community online has felt like a lifeline. I've found their patterns fit me really well, the style fits with things I like to wear and the instructions are easy to follow (plus there are lots of sewalongs available to help with tricky bits). I found it really hard to pick a favourite make but this my Emma dress, which I made through stitch school last year. I made two of these and have worn them a lot over the winter, great for work and really comfortable. I've also put together a collage of six other makes that I've worn/ love the most.
