#memademay day 31 I’m wearing my favourite dress I’ve made to date which is my #soiheididress with my new #soisylviarobe that I made from a table cloth. Living my best 70s rock star life 🌼🤘🏼 I’ve made it to the end! I really was hoping my posing would have improved and I would be looking (and feeling) less awkward in my pictures by this point but I think I’m going to need longer for that to change! I have definitely enjoyed sharing more of my makes on here and it’s interesting to have a visual diary of what I’ve been making and wearing. I promise you I'm not obsessed with this print... well okay. Maybe I am just a little. This is a viscose called Medusa and it is mesmerising, with the wiggly lines which seem to snake along the fabric.. a bit like its namesake you could say. I can see this as a really gorgeous wrap dress or wrap top for the summer. I've made the #fibremoodcharlotte wrap dress before and it is a show stopper of a dress at midi-length. Another fabulous make using @sewoveritlondon #soiheididress pattern from their own magazine published a few years ago. I did a little hack using the #soievedress sleeves making this a very femine dress. I will be making it again in a heavier fabric and with long sleeves, taking a little fabric from the bust and hips. #memademay Same dress last year and this year. My brother got married last year, 3 weeks before my little girl was borned, so I had to make a pregnant friendly dress. The Hedi Dress by Sew Over It London was the perfect one, a high rise wrap dress with enough ease. It fits perfectly not-pregnant as well, just with a little adjustment. I just had to tuck it in about 6 cm (handsew) at the opposite side of the tie. To make it pregnant friendly I added extra fabric gathered over the stomach, but luckily it doesn’t look very odd because of the gathers all way around. Craftyguider, you will go to the ball. A few weeks ago we got news that eldest Craftyguidelet was getting an award at a school event, and when the invite came through, we found out that it was black tie. Googling black tie dresses as a 50-something who isn’t stick thin and doesn’t go out out was depressing, so of course I decided to make something. 5m of viscose acetate satin backed crepe deadstock from @newcrafthouse and hours of pattern decisions and pattern Tetris later, I have a dress. This is a @sewoveritlondon #SOIHeidiDress with a slight skirt hack. I added the length of the maxi frill but cut the skirt as one piece. I’ve already made the standard version of this dress so the pattern was already cut out and graded. I chose to have the satin side of the fabric outermost to make it slightly more fancy, although the tie at the side will need to be secured as it slides apart a bit when worn. I know it’s not a standard black tie frock, but I’m sure the teachers won’t turn me away from the door. This sweater came out even better than I’d hoped and turned into the perfect #sewyourstash project! ✂️🪡🧵 I’ve had this gorgeous openwork knit sweater fabric from @pretty_mercerie in my stash for almost two years. I fell in love with the fabric as soon as I saw it, but I could not decide what I wanted to make with it. After about a year in the stash, I settled on the idea of a wrap sweater. And then I spent another year trying to find the perfect wrap sweater pattern. Nothing was *quite* right for the look I had in my head. Eventually I came across a wrap top made using McCalls 7969 dress pattern. It was the closest thing I’d seen to what I was envisioning and an idea was born! 💡 I searched through my pattern stash and found a couple of Big 5 wrap dress patterns that could have worked with some modifications. And then I remembered that I’ve had the SOI Heidi Dress pattern for years and never made it. I even had the PDF pattern already printed out! I looked over the pattern and realized that the bodice was the exact shape I was going for. A perfect match! Coming in just under the wire, this project is also my @the_makerstudio #projectsewit garment for February’s theme: the sweater. Fabric: openwork sweater knit from @pretty_mercerie. I’ve finished my #SOIHeidiDress after an unusually industrious morning at the sewing machine. The viscose crepe was from @minervadotcom and was lovely to work with. There was a bit of head scratching in places and a lot of gathering, but I’ve got a lovely dress with all the ties in the right places. I graded from a 14 at the bust to an 18 at the waist and hip, so all the gathering was helpful when manipulating the size variations. I think this is my second @sewoveritlondon pattern and the instructions are really good, especially as YouTube has a partial sewalong too.
