Started sewing this at the @bathsews sewing day on Saturday and found an hour today to finish it off. This is my @sewoveritlondon Grocery bag in rust cotton canvas. Bits were tricky to get my head around but once I did it came together quickly. June 2022. I am very behind in taking photos of my sewing. But this was a nice little project. A couple of years ago I bought some @marimekko fabric and made tote bags as Christmas presents. They went down well but I didn't get round to making one for myself. I had fabric left over but not enough to make a full bag in any of them. So I combined remnants from the four fabrics and made this @sewoveritlondon grocery bag. I absolutely love it, loads of space, lots of pockets. Think I'll end up using it as my orchestra bag when rehearsals start again. #sewoverit #soigrocerybag #sewover40 #scrapbusting

Sew Over It Grocery Bag in upholstery weight cotton from @designerfabricoutlet with interfacing and lining (Primark duvet). Lovely pattern by @sewoveritlondon, I'd need to alter to reduce bulk if I made again - as not designed for interfacing and lining. Only got away with it as used vintage 201k to sew. Very proud of this bag I made to take Reya swimming. It’s a hack of the @sewoveritlondon Grocery Bag using waterproof fabric from @flamingofabricsuk as a lining and a spare waffle cotton I was donated for the outer. I adapted the pattern to have 2 zipped sections - a big one for wet costumes and a small one for my purse, watch & other valuables. The original pockets for the other 2 sides are perfect for nappies, wipes and other baby paraphernalia. And the body of the bag is nice and roomie for towels and dry clothes. Maxi suggested and I couldn't resist sewing another one up for ourselves to use 😇 🥦 Same pattern as for the teachers gifts, different colour and labels. Sewed a heart on the base instead of a label 🧡 🥒 Used different kinds of leftover pieces of interfacing to fill the optional bases with of all four grocery bags: felt, Stylevil and Vlieseline. Here’s a multipocket double-handled grocery bag that took an absolute age. You could say it was 21 years in the making, because that’s how old the fabric is 😜 I rescued this baby canvas / cotton twill (?) from being discarded in a routine post season cleanup back when I worked as a Garment Technologist in @boden_clothing in London circa 2002! Textile suppliers would send us a test length (often way more than we asked for, “just in case”) and part of my job was to ensure our custom printed & dyed fabrics could hold up to repeated wash & wear by subjecting them to a barrage of tests at testing houses. The test lab would cut out only a 6” circle and send us the rest back. Sometimes we’d have metres & metres lying about the sample room, and there was no other option than to bin the lot before design work on the new season began and the cycle repeated itself. When you think about this happening for each individual article manufactured all over the world in hundreds of thousands of clothing, accessory & furnishing design companies & factories - even BEFORE products hit the market and reach customers’ hands - you can maybe wrap your head around why the garment & textile industry is one of the most wasteful & polluting in all human manufacture. 😖 Yeah so I carted this pretty floral canvas to 6 homes in 2 countries. Today I finally turned it into a reusable grocery bag that will save plastic bags being thrown into incinerators or landfills. I made my stitches strong and built it to last. 🌎 ♻️ Does it make a difference, my tiny drop in the ocean of waste? It does to me. And hopefully to you, reading this. There is no place called “away”. I’ve been meaning to get round to making a nappy bag for ages. This pattern from @sewoverit is perfect - it’s spacious and has eight internal pockets but can still be squished down into the bottom of the pram. I chose a lovely cotton twill at @trurofabrics and made the whole thing in a morning. My only issue is that I wish the pattern had included the option to simply measure out the rectangles of fabric needed. Bonjour, Aujourd'hui je vous présente une cousette un peu différente : le Grocery Bag de @sewoveritlondon Il s'agit d'un sac comprenant deux paires d'anses de longueurs différentes pour pouvoir être porté à la main ou à l'épaule. A l'intérieur on trouve 8 poches accordéon cousues sur les 4 côtés (je vous ai fait une photo des poches remplies 😉). Et puis pour qu'il se tienne un peu il y a un fond amovible renforcé avec du thermocollant rigide. Lorsque j'avais craqué sur mon wax fleurs de mariage, j'en avais pris une bonne longueur (genre 5-6 m 😁) et finalement je n'ai cousu qu'une jupe avec. C'est donc lui qui a été employé pour cette cousette ! J'ai choisi d'utiliser un tissu uni pour les poches, c'est un reste de coton épais. Au niveau couture, les pièces sont des rectangles de tailles variables. L'assemblage se fait très bien en suivant tranquillement les étapes.
