🌞🌸 Sew Over It Martha Dress 🌸🌞 Whilst this autumn and stormy weather blows in I just wanted to share my final summer make of 2023. This lovely floral linen @SewOverItLondon Martha Dress. I took this away on a recent holiday to wear in the evening, but we were so busy that we didn't end up changing before eating out in the evening. I've made a Martha Dress bodice before and remembered to make sure I clearly marked all the notches on the lining and the main fabric on the bodice. It came together quickly, although I did omit the pockets from the skirt. I have been wanting to make another Martha Dress for a while now as I find the bodice flattering and love the overall look. My previous Martha Dress was a hack using a Joan skirt and made in a starry jacquard fabric for my Graduation dress. The fabric is a lovely floral linen I bought from Sew Over It a few years ago knowing I wanted to make a Martha Dress. I wish I had made this dress a few months earlier so I could have got more wear out of it, but it's ready for next summer! I used a contrasting fabric for the underside of the belt and unsure if I like the effect or not. I am wondering if I should have used a plain colour, but it's too late now and I am thinking I could make a matching Bow Bag. It may make the dress come together. Now I am back off my holiday I am focusing on my autumn wardrobe. I've auditted the majority of my wardrobe now as I've been unpacking and washing. I can't wait to add some more pieces to my autumn wardrobe! This is the @sewoveritlondon Martha Dress cut at the knee length option. Made to wear to a wedding! It's my first fully lined bodice and I'm happy with it! Some fun pleats in the cross over section of the bodice. The material is a duvet cover that I bought on sale from @urbanoutfitterseu . The dress needed 4m as cut on the bias and not only did I get a cute pattern but it's much more affordable. Made a very quick matching bag out of the bag the duvet set came in 😊 I made this without making a toile (knew I didn't have time!) and like with many other patterns it was too long in the shoulder. I have a long torso but seem to be short from bust to shoulder. In an ideal world I'd have unpicked the bodice and adjusted, but as it needs to be worn this Friday I put it on inside out, pinned the shoulders, sewed across and tacked the flappy bits down towards the back. With the sun shining ☀️ it made sense to sew up @sewoveritlondon Martha Dress. I love this design with a faux wrap bodice which is fully lined and comes with pockets (plus two skirt lengths) I made Martha as a size ‘9’, which for the most part worked perfectly for me. This make did feel like a more ‘in-depth’ pattern with lots of steps compared to other SOI patterns, but nothing too difficult. In the end, I did have to tweak it slightly and adjust the shoulder seams - I think that they ended up been just over 3/4” instead of the usual 5/8”, and then I had a little gaping on the back neckline so added in a couple of darts. I think next time I would also look to lengthen the bodice ever so slightly. All in all, I adore this beautiful dress, 👗 perfect for summer and this glorious weather we are having! 😎 Fabric used is a rose print gingham cotton lawn from @justsewpenrith. Here she is my @sewoveritlondon #Marthadress. Hacked to have buttons which caused me untold aggravation - first my ordered buttons took ages to come and then they were grey when they did 🙄. Then my machine was just not playing ball with button hole making. That said I would do it again as I love it! Feel very Pretty Woman in this dress. Gingham alert! 👗🌸👗 also bonus flower shot 🌸🌺 New dress shouts summer 😍☀️ I've been looking for the perfect pattern to use up this gingham fabric I purchased from @minervadotcom a while back. I didn't want to make anything that looked frilly or too young for me...then this pattern was released. It has pockets! The new @sewoveritlondon pattern the Martha Dress. It was a challenging sew, some tricky bits to tackle, It was slow going, I've got to be honest. I did manage to squeeze it out of 2.5 meters of fabric however! I made a size 8 for my shoulders, graded to a 9 for the chest, and 10 for the waist. Removed 2.5 inches off the knee length version. I had to take in some fabric on the back neck as it gaped a little. All in all I'm very happy with the result! 💙👗💕 I have a full review of this dress coming up on my YouTube channel.
