Me Made May Week 1 I’ve been taking quick photos everyday in May and I am trying to not repeat anything. I might have to change that to not repeat any outfits because I found it hard to not wear my jeans at the weekend! I started off strong with a new to the grid dress. The New Look N6692. This is basically my ideal summer dress - a square neck, an elastic back (it looks like shirring but actually done with elastic), a tiered loose skirt and sleeves. I can see a fair few more of these in my future. I made it with @minervadotcom cotton sateen (gifted). I made a size 14 and used 2.5mtrs of fabric. Then for the rest of the week (and a bit): 2. @byhandlondon flora skirt with a gathered skirt in @minervadotcom viscose linen 3. @closetcorepatterns nicks top in @guthrieghani and @sewoveritlondon ultimate trousers in stretch cotton also from G+G. This was my attempt at saving my jeans for another time but I don’t think these go together and I didn’t feel put together wearing them so a fail! 4. @sewoveritlondon sienna dress in @lamazifabrics cotton. 5. An oldie - @byhandlondon zeena dress in viscose crepe from @sewsewsewuk 6. A skirt in a book recommended by @sosewdressmaking that I love made in really old @lisacomfort crepe. 7. A @sewoveritlondon Lea dress in @fabricgodmother crepe 8. A @tillybuttons Lyra in @dashwoodstudio rayon from @minervadotcom What I’ve learned - this is harder than I thought! This pattern is a total @sewoveritlondon pattern mash up - I combined the Lea dress bodice (with pleats rather than darts), Poppy playsuit sleeves and Ultimate Culottes from the waist down, narrowing the legs (a bit too much over my thighs to be able to sit down comfortably!) I’ve had this red fabric for a few years, originally intended to be another Lea dress, but I finally decided on a jumpsuit. An all red jumpsuit seemed like a bold choice but I think it has a wow factor. The #SOIKitty has been on my to-sew list for YEARS with its cute collar options, shirt dress style and vintage vibe. I’d never properly settled on a fabric but took the plunge and so very glad I did! The pattern is actually a mash up of the Kitty bodice which I lengthened and paired with the #SOILeaDress before realising the seams don’t align - but shhh, it’s a busy print and no one will know 👀 for the next one I will use the Kitty skirt but flare the pieces for the swish effect. The fabric is from @wasted_fabrics which is a total gem if you’re in Benelux. This is my first time using their fabrics and the handle and wash of this viscose crepe is gorgeous. On St Patrick’s Day we wear green! So glad I got this dress finished for the day that’s in it. It’s a @sewoveritlondon Lea - one of the prettiest dress patterns I have ever seen. I made this around 5 years ago in a size 10 and even then it was a bit tight so I’d say this is tighter fitting than their other patterns. It’s made in a 14 here with an inch added to the neckline to bring it up slightly. I’ve made it in @fabricgodmother viscose crepe which has a lovely texture. It’s lightweight and I think there will be creep in the size the more I wear it, especially around the neck and I do wish that I had added some stay tape, but I will go back and add it in because this dress so is pretty I want it to last for years and years. I needed 2.5mtrs to make this size and I took two inches from the length. It’s a fabric hungry pattern but so worth it. Woohoo 1st annual @raleighfrocktails - I made a @sewoveritlondon Lea Dress with added pockets and rhinestones. I shopped my stash for second hand fabric from @scrapexchange and buttons from pacific trimming. The longest part of making the dress was adding a few hundred rhinestones with a hot fix tool to add just a little bit of sparkle. Shout out to @almitamade for the idea to add pockets! And another shout out to @brooksanncamper for taking the photo - it was amazing finally meeting you in person 🥰

My Sew Over It Lea Dress! This one is re-released today with the 18 to 30 size range. Modifications: my usual back adjustments and straightening out the waistline seam on the bodice. Also raised the neckline 3.75" Fabirc: a rayon challis like no other. It grew and grew and grew. It's not my first time using this kind of fabric but this particular one had a mind of its own. I made the size 22 but it fits very large in this fabric. I did make a bodice muslin out of some other Challis so I know that the pattern isn't off. I'd love to try it in another better quality Challis. I was talking to @almitamade and hoping this would be my witchy 90s dress to channel Buffy or Sabrina the Teenage Witch, but I think I need it to not grow so I can have a closer fit and shorter skirt.🧙‍♀️🧛‍♀️ The instructions and construction methods were wonderful! And I do hope to make my witchy dress soon. 🧵 Sew Over It Lea Dress🧵 Today Sew Over It re-released their Lea Dress pattern in an extended size range and they have also added pockets! The pattern now comes in size 6-30. I made a Lea Dress the other year and have been wanting to add more into my wardrobe. I decided now was a good time to do that! I used this beautiful dotty gorgette fabric and some vintage buttons. I can't remember where I got the fabric from, but it's been sat waiting to be made onto a Lea Dress. I didn't add the pockets as I worry about the line of the dress after I've used them. I made a straight size 12 and found this fits me comfortably. As others have said I may also add an additional button at the bust to reduce the deep v off the neckline. I was going to take this on my honeymoon, but it didn't quite have the space for it and I've tried to avoid darker colours as it's very warm! I can't wait to wear this when I get back and throughout the summer. It is a perfect addition to my work wardrobe as well! I can't wait to see more of the Lea Dress and I will be adding more into my wardrobe for sure! I can see this being a good piece to take your from spring into summer and then onto the autumn! Just need to find the perfect fabric to transition between those months! I have wanted to make this pattern up for the longest time but having a bilateral mastectomy I wasn’t sure it would work for me but I am so glad I tried it I have just altered it slightly putting a vest underneath! @sewoveritlondon has upgraded it's classic Lea dress to include the full range of UK sizes 6-30, and pockets! As a pattern insider for @sewoveritlondon, I get access to Lea in preparation for the re-release 💕 Lea dress is a 1940s buttoned up tea dress design with a sleek silhouette that will withstand the test of time. The short sleeves are finished with turn ups and the panelled skirt provides amazing twirl and movement. I made my Lea dress in a peachskin bought during one of my visits to Taiwan years ago. I've been sincerely and very intentionally shopping from my stash. It can be quite a heartache to cut into some of the much loved fabrics. 😂 This is a size 10 with my usual fit adjustments of 1. Sway back 3/8 inch taken from the center back of the bodice 2. Sway back 3/8 inch from the center back of the skirt. 3. Half inch reduction in bodice 4. 3/8 inch shortening of my short sleeves. 4. 1 inch reduction of skirt length ( this is primarily to squeeze into the 3 meters of fabric available ) Tips- Much of the pattern pieces do end up being cut on the bias. So do not skip the stay-stitching and always check and recheck the pattern pieces. Sew Over It Lea @sewoveritlondon has rereleased the #soileadress today! The update pattern includes the full size range and pockets! As a Pattern Insider I was excited to make myself one in time for the release. First I will say that I absolutely loved making this dress. It looks great in photos but don’t be fooled this was a journey! I decided to use this @cloud9fabrics rayon that I have had in my stash for years which I purchased one of the first times I visited @urbansewciety. This gave the perfect 90s vibes, the right weight and the exact amount I needed. I will spare you all the details of the disaster I created for myself, but share the journey. I made a size 10 with no adjustments to start. I printed the pattern and really enjoyed sewing the pattern but when I went to put it on my mannequin it didn’t even come close to closing. I immediately knew what I did wrong - I never checked the test square or printer settings on my new laptop. So I measured after the fact and the test box almost 2cm off 🤦🏼‍♀️. But I was in love with the dress and determined to make it fit. So I opened up the darts and matching skirt seams. I then moved the buttons over on the top. I did some more adjustments to the side seams and it fits but still snug. So in short check the test box before you get going! And not everything that looks like it fits actually fits. I was able to somewhat save this and I will be making another one one day when I can forget this mess. My finished #soileadress this is such a comfy button up dress. i started the toil of this back in October after using the @sewoveritlondon stitch school class on altering this dress but only recently picked it back up. The fabric is a viscose from @hellerslea and is very soft and floaty. I haven't sewn much on the bias so this was a great intro as some of the panels are on a partial bias cut. HAPPY re-launch to the Lea dress!! 🍒 @sewoveritlondon have updated this 90’s babe of a pattern to have a touch up and include their full size range and I was so excited as it was already on my cutting table! 90’s button up + ditsy floral = my perfect combo really and I am ALMOST 100% happy with the fit of this pattern, ready to add more to my wardrobe. I used a swishy buttery soft viscose from @abakhanfabrics and made a size 14 graded to 16 at the hip with a 2.5cm narrow shoulder adjustment and 1cm forward shoulder adjustment. Both these have lots of useful blog posts to help you navigate if you need the same fit, I recommend Helen’s Closet as a starting point. For the next I might shorten the torso and take the shoulders in to a 12 but that’s me being really picky. I love this dress and am so happy that my sewjo is back in some sort of flow ready for summer dresses.
