The sewing gods have been against me today! I’ve made the #soiesmadress in a modal french terry ( surprisingly slippery to work with) but everything kept going wrong! The neckband wouldn’t sit right & the pockets were a disaster, meaning that they had to come off! This should have been a quick and easy sew but it turned into a lengthy saga 😂. Anyways, almost done now- just needs hemming. One of a few in a series of dresses I made with kid friendly prints to wear while teaching Sunday School 🤗 the pattern is the Sew Over It Esma dress. This was my first of 3 versions of this pattern with slight adjustments made to the others- one of which was lengthening the bodice. I love the definition that the waistband gives while still being a super comfortable knit dress! As you can see from the picture these dresses are very transitional as they still look great layering up in cooler seasons. 🌸🌿Loved wearing one of my #soiesmadress hacks in the sunshine ☀️ this weekend! 🌸🌿Layered with one of my crochet 🧶 little granny squares tops (self drafted pattern) 🌸🌿It’s pretty easy to change a sleeve in a pattern. ✨Esma Dress✨ I’ve wanted to make the #soiesma dress for such a long time. As soon as a saw this Minerva Exclusive Floret Flow Viscose Jersey I knew it was the perfect pairing. The dress was simple to make and I made sure I had more fabric than the pattern called for so I could add longer bishop sleeves. I love the style of the pockets, and think they sit really nicely and suit the style of the dress. I’ve borrowed a cover stitch machine to do the skirt hem, it’s such a lovely professional finish! Next time, I think I’ll shorten the main skirt and add a ruffle to the skirt. I didn’t have much fabric left but I did manage to make a couple of my new favourite accessory, the ruffle headband! Using a stretch fabric works well for these. I wasn’t sure if the headband might need some interfacing but it worked well without. Overall I love the combination of this fabric with the pattern. I can’t wait to make more versions of this one. The print on the fabric is lovely and I think I’ll be looking at different base cloths for this one as the print is a firm favourite. Dino dress! Despite the look on my face, I absolutely love this dress. I’ve had the fabric for ages, waiting for the perfect project; I finally decided it would be better as a straightforward pattern I already know I love rather than continuing to languish in the fabric totes. So! I made another @sewoveritlondon Esma dress, and I have zero regrets. The only modification I made was to not cut the back bodice on the fold, seaming it up the centre instead - I had just two metres of this cotton-lycra jersey and I was determined to pattern tetris until the pieces fit. It’s a directional print, too, so that complicated things. It worked, though, so. My inner five-year-old is very happy right now.

Dear self: sew more knit dresses. Please. My grid tells me that the last one I made was in April (!!!) and that’s baffling to me. I have patterns, and I have knits (though not many) in the fabric stash, so what gives? I’ve recently become a @sewoveritlondon Pattern Insider, so I’ve been happily picking my way through their catalogue, taking note of the (many) patterns that I’d like to sew in the near future. I honestly hadn’t taken much notice of Esma the first time around, but I’m glad I chose to re-visit because this might just end up being a TNT. It’s a new favourite, at the very least! It’s the details that I love. Slash pockets, sleeve bands, a waistband that adds some structure to the bodice without sacrificing comfort, and a neckline that sits higher than a true scoop but lower than a crew. The skirt is just the right length for me, too - there are three lengths to choose from. My only adjustment was to remove 4 cm from the bodice. I might only remove 2 cm next time to get the waistband to the perfect spot, but I love it just as it is, too. I didn’t break out the twin needle for the hem - I sewed it with a slightly lengthened straight stitch, as it’s not really something that needs to stretch like the rest of the dress. All I need, now, is to find a pair of tights so I can wear this out to brave the (no doubt busy) shops this afternoon. I’m definitely labelling this #pfjoyful because few things make me happier than sewing something I know I’ll want to wear again and again.

I felt the sudden need of a black maxi dress 😅 so I purchased some viscose jersey and redeemed my @sewoveritlondon VIP coupon for the #soiesmadress pattern. I added quite some length to the bottom and also lengthened the bodice by 2cm - which, in hindsight, wasn't necessary. The weight of the skirt was pulling considerably on the bodice, and it didn't sit quite right. I chose to add a casing and some wide elastic to the inside of the waist. I made another @sewoveritlondon Esma dress last week ✂️ I have made three of these now, and I’m pretty sure there will be more in the future 😊 I love jersey dresses- They can be smart or casual depending on what you team them with. My go to is pumps and a cardi! 👗 This version is made in a modal viscose ( I think!) that I got from @guthrieghani in the summer sale. It’s slippery but fairly easy to handle. I managed to stretch a section of the waistband out of shape where I got it caught in my stitches and had to unpick 🙊. I made a size 8 and left out the pockets. My latest make. This is a hack of the @patternemporium #pegotodress and the @sewoverit #soiesmadress . I have used the bodice and easy fit sleeve from the go to dress (as this fits me significantly better than the soi bodice) shorted with the width at the waist adjusted to fit the esma dress waistband and skirt as I love this with the pocket construction, length and gathers just in the right place. This is now my go to work dress!

🎁Mystery Box🎁 I love a mystery box. It's like getting a present, even though you've paid for it yourself you still get the surprise feelings. After MeMadeMay, one of my conclusions was I needed more cotton jersey garments. So for €31.50, I got a mystery box of 4 x 1 meter fabrics from @ecobee.fabrics.ie It was my first time to shop there (100% influenced by @in_agatas_cottage ), so I had a 10% discount. I opted for the patterned print option and requested no animal or childish prints. As a result, I ended up with 4 floral fabrics and when I first opened box, I wasn't sure about them all, but now that I've made them up, I'm delighted. I made 2 dresses and 2 tshirts Dress 1 - #soiesmadress from @sewoveritlondon =================== This is the blue and white dress - it's a little short, but I was gobsmacked to get the dress, pockets, neckband etc all out of the 1m. It was wide at 170cm and 210gsm. The waistband in the middle of the dress, gives plenty of tetris options. Dress 2 - Drawstring dress from @tillybuttons #makeitsimplebook ===================== The sunflower dress is based on the #sewingtabitha tshirt which I have made a few times before. Next time I'd probably take an inch or so from the bodice and add it to the skirt instead. I had a nightmare with the eyelets, so definitely planning on upgrading my tools for this. #memade2023 This is the @sewoverit #soiesmadress (Esma dress) I don’t think this one gets much noteriety but it is a great pattern!! This is one that I have made 3 times now so I have already made most of the adjustments needed to get an accurate fit. For this one I did lengthen the bodice quite a bit and grade down from bust to waist. In future makes I think I will lengthen the sleeve by about an inch or so. I have images in my head of doing a bit of color blocking on this one at the waist, arm and neck bands. It’s been a while since I made this pattern so I’d like to revisit it soon. This pattern is super comfortable! Yet the waist band feature adds a bit of shaping and the slight boat neck line gives it a more elegant touch. Here I made a bit of a fun everyday dress with this avocado print jersey from Joann Fabrics. While the print is fun I am not very impressed with the quality of the fabric. It’s thin and doesn’t have much stretch but is nice and light for a ‘play dress’. So far only 3 days into my first Me Made May challenge I am loving the thoughtfulness and intentionality it brings to my sewing hobby! Happy sewing and enjoy your day!! 🥰🤩
