I absolutely love my #soiniamhskirt but it had somehow stretched. The waist was too big and it became way too long to be practical, so I took some time to alter it. First of all I ran some lines of shirring around the waist band. This worked a treat! Then I did the arduous job of re-hemming it. (ad-pr product) All year round maxi skirt! @minervadotcom have started to do their own range of viscose fabrics and I was offered the chance to pick up to sew up. The colours of this just stood out to me so I got three meters. When it came it was even nicer than I imagined! I wanted to make something that would be suitable for summer and winter to get most use out of this gorgeous fabric. I picked the @sewoveritlondon Niamh skirt. This is the first “new” sew over it pattern I’ve made in a long time. It was a pdf pattern they released last year. I loved how it was styled in the photoshoot for it - with a jumper and boots for winter and a cami for summer. I also thought the boho feel of it was something different for me. All I need is a massive leather medallion belt to be living my early 00s Siena Millar dreams! The construction of this was fairly easy and it came together in no time. I was worried about getting the point nice but it was actually fine to do - they have a great tip in the instructions for it. My one disappointment is that the top of the skirt doesn’t have darts. I feel like it would suit my shape so much more if it. I am a bit paranoid wearing it sometimes and I think it’s not very flattering on my mum tum. Next time I would shorten the v area so that it didn’t hit at such an unfortunate point. I made a size 14 but took it in quite a bit at the waist. This is my Sew Over It Niamh Skirt, a pattern I bought a while back and have finally sewn up. I used a lovely floaty viscose twill fabric which was very easy to sew with. The pattern has a 'V' shaped yoke at the top so it's figure hugging around the hips and then has a gathered skirt beneath that section. I'm planning to make another version at some point with slightly fewer gathers to see if / how that changes the shape. I’m not quite done with summer yet and couldn’t wait to get this amazing cotton fabric, as soon as I saw it from @emporia_patterns I just knew I wanted a summer skirt for future holidays and thought this was perfect to be teamed with a black camisole or vest top. I don’t suit a lot of gathers around the waistline, so I opted for the #niamhskirt by @sewoveritlondon because it has a flat fitted panel, with a zip from the waist to the hip, then the gathers flare out from a yoke at hip height as well. The skirt panels are also flared, so again there’s not too much fabric around the hips either and you end up with an easy breezy flattering silhouette. The skirt is all about that fabric though!! 🌈🍋💙🧡❤️💛💚 It’s like a dompamine overload and probably the brightest skirt I’ve owned. Hmmmm, so on reflection of my #makenine2022 it does not appear to have gone very well. From the number completed it doesn't seem like I made very much in the year but my wardrobe seems to be showing something different. I think it is time for a clear out. Below are a list of the plans I had and the current status of them: 1. Nina lee - Camden. I have cut out the fabric and it is ready to sew. 2. Friday Pattern Company - Heather Blazer Fabric has been picked but just need to conquer the cutting out! 3. Deer and Doe - Sirocco Complete and loving it! 4. Sew Over it - Niamh skirt Cut out and it is ready to sew. 5. Grainline Studio - Thayer Finished and it has become a staple jacket since then 6. Tilly and the buttons - Nora cardigan Problems were had and posted at the time... 7. Sew Over It - Libby Shirt Cut out and ready to sew. 8. Simplicity McCalls - 1887 I made shorts initially in this pattern and wear them a lot in the summer, I have sewed up the trousers but don't like the fit so haven't actually worn them. 9. While I’m in the mood for posting this weekend, here’s another project that hasn’t made it to the grid yet - my @sewoveritlondon Niamh skirt that I made in May. It tests my theory that there’s no such thing as a long skirt that is too long! I wore it a few times over the summer and hoped that with its darker colours, it might take me into cooler months too. And it did - here it is autumned up with a jumper & cardi instead of a T-shirt and boots instead of trainers (tho tbh with the temps recently, it’s hardly ‘cool’ at the moment!). N I A M H S K I R T I’ve made my first Niamh skirt from sew over it, and it’s going to be such a fab addition to my wardrobe. I’ve used some of the exclusive @minervadotcom viscose which is so lovely to work with. I did have to recut the yoke as it seemed to either be misaligned on the grain or stretched out. But thankfully I had enough to recut. I think I could have done with a lighter weight zip too. Niamh Skirt I recently had an Indian wedding event to attend but nothing to wear... Enter the Niamh skirt as part of an Indo-western outfit. I paired the skirt with a stretchy crop top (so nice and easy for breastfeeding access) and a chundri (dupatta/scarf) to get the right vibe. This is maxi skirt version of this dress in size 12-14 although as I'm 5'2" I took 14cm off the length. Other mods were to take in the side seams. The skirt is meant to sit on my waist but since I made it, I've lost a tiny bit of baby weight so next time I'll make a smaller size. I’m sure, if you’ve been on these IG streets today you have seen some AMAZING reveals for the #sewcretkristmas sewing challenge I hosted. This challenge kicked off back in September. I had seen @brittanyjjones ask ‘what did Chat Gpt think of my feed?’ in August and thought it would be fun to ask 18 Sewists what did he/she thought of someone else’s feed anonymously! Each Sewists created a mood board for their person and once the mood boards were distributed, the recipient had to make an item inspired by their board! As host, I didn’t expect to play as I knew who designed which boards but @almondrock_sews asked someone to create a board for me. Swipe to the end to get a little idea of my board! I wanted to do something fun and flirty and way outside my usual makes! I hacked the @sewoveritlondon #soiniamhskirt into a hoochie skirt, dropped in some additional gathers, and some bold print mixing using remnants left over from makes this year! I hacked the yoke to create a panel near Centre front so I could add plackets for an eyelet feature which I laced up like a corset. I also bleach dyed my denim using Clorox and some lace. I love using bleach to dye and you can find two or three other projects back on my feed featuring this technique. It was my first time using the lace though and it didn’t come out as prominent as I would have liked! I need to work on it some more. Shout out to all 18 of my Sewcret Sewists! Finall finished something NEW- the @sewoveritlondon Niamh Skirt in a lovely dark green and pink viscose I nabbed from @fabricsgalorelondon . It felt like everything was trying to stop me from finishing this project but we got there 🤩🤩🤩 I love how swishy this skirt is- works perfectly with the drape of the fabric and will be a great trans-seasonal piece to wear with thermals in the winter and sandals in the summer 🙌🏼 (can’t even imagine the summer today 🥶). And as a bonus, I feel like a Victorian and we all know how much I love a period drama 🤣

Hi hi! Pattern insider here sharing my Penny add on 😊 from @sewoveritlondon. Better late than never; First with my kiddo coming down with a fever, followed by cranky internet issues. I made my Penny tie front blouse in white double gauze with the main idea of matching with my Niamh skirt, But then again, I'm finding that a white blouse pretty much matches with everything, so that's a win! I'm wearing my Penny tie front blouse with Niamh skirt. With jeans ( of course ) or over a strappy dress on days when I don't feel comfy showing my upper arms or when I'm too lazy to bother with bra straps 😅 I'm in between sizes 10 n 12; this blouse is a straight size 12. I did omit the interfacing cuz I wanted the blouse soft, floppy n casual. Not because I dislike ironing interfacing. Whilst I haven’t been documenting #memeadmay here, I have been keeping a personal list to see if I have been able to wear my #memadeseveryday. I found that I’ve been wearing this skirt on repeat. Once again this project started with a gift of fabric ( an unwanted African kaftan picture 3) and a personal challenge to upcycle it. I squeezed the pattern pieces for the shortest version of the #soiniamhskirt around the elephant head. To make it midi length I cut a straight patterned panel to add on the bottom.
