This is my first time trying Make Nine. I've selected nine patterns that I currently have that I would like to make this year. We'll see how I do. 1. I saw a hack of the True Bias Roscoe shirt. I've made the Roscoe recently, but the hack is a button down version. I have a leaf print viscose from StyleMaker Fabrics that I'm going to use for this make. 2. I need a long cardigan. The Named Patterns Esme Cardigan. 3. Of course I have to also make the True Bias Marlow. I have a sparkle pink waffle knit from Guthrie & Ghani that I think would be perfect. 4. Next Closet Core Ginger Jeans - mid-rise. I've seen several done in stretch cord. I think I'm going to give that a try. May change my mind about the cord. I also have some stretch denim. 5. I made this dress at the end of August and beginning of September for a wedding. It turned out wonderfully! I used the Sew Over It Frida Dress, which I got free for sharing as a pattern insider. It is a size 20. A few things I'm focusing on in my sewing right now are slowing down and making clothes that will be worn trough different seasons of life. This includes making them breastfeeding friendly. So I added an invisible zipper along the seamline and it worked a treat! Get a peak by scrolling through. ➡ I made no other modifications. I'd love to make another in the blouse view! The fabric is a dead stock viscose crepe from Blackbird Fabrics. Well this is a bit of a Frankenstein top but I think it turned out well. I used the bodice from #sagebrushtop - except, as usual, I closed the back with a button and loop rather than the long bias ties. I also self-lined the front and back yoke because the fabric is pretty thin. Then the sleeves started as #soifridablouse but ended up with the bottoms copied from #davenportdress. I wanted a Sagebrush in this pretty Swiss dot but wanted the sleeves to be a little more wearable. Yesterday marked 20 years since we arrived in Spain to live...we weren't sure how long we'd stay, but it's been an amazing 2 decades. Another Make Nine 2022 make. The Frida blouse from @sewoveritlondon. I made a few changes to this one. I brought the shoulder in a bit. It just seemed to drop too far off the shoulder in other photos I had seen. And a slight drop off the shoulder isn't a good look on me. I also made a change to the sleeve by adding shirring. Joining in with talented @madebyliesl #refebulouschallenge in the refashion category. Thank you Liesl for your encouragement and this thought provoking challenge. Two tops made from a dress. . . I procrastinated endlessly and my original plan of a bomber jacket just wouldn't work out without buying more fabric, ribbing, zip etc. The original dress was like a sack, but only a size 10 so not masses of fabric (pic 4). I turned the fabric on the side and cut the bodice of the #remyraglan with flowers at the top and made sleeves from this crinkle fabric in my scrap box. One sleeve of the original dress was stained, and I used the clean part and the other to piece the front bodice and make the cuffs. A very wearable top, I think. You can see the top better in picture 3. . . I had the top of the dress left, so I sewed it back together, binding the neckline with bias binding and used another scrap to make the "skirt" based on the #soifridablouse . This one will go to another home. I only have the lining left but I've saved that as it's nice quality. . . Today’s crafting: working on the last bits of my #soifridablouse. Cut off 2 1/2 inches from the bottom of the top, and decided on a 1/2 inch hem, for no reason other than I thought I would give it a try. Got a few more rows in on my knitting. Watched a few videos about slipping the first stitch pearl wise when I get to the next part of the pattern. Looking ahead to tackling the sewing project I started earlier and abandoned until the liberty fabric I “needed” arrived 🤓. Have I mentioned before how much I love my #sscocoon project bag? It was wonderful to take to the football game this afternoon.

Here is the new Frida dress by @sewoveritlondon I am very happy with my fabric choice and the use of the border print. It was the oldest fabric in my stash, which I bought in Indonesia 6.5 years ago!!! I used some black viscose for the contrasting yoke. I made a straight size 8 and my only alteration was to remove some of the fullness from the sleeves. It works both with and without a belt but I prefer it with the belt. [Ad*] Hello 👋 pattern insider here with my Frida Dress, the September pattern from @sewoveritlondon I made a size 22 with a narrow shoulder adjustment. My measurements (B50 W45 H52) put me between a 22 and a 24 but because of the ease I thought I could get away with the 22. I think I problably could have gone down another size or maybe even more but I wasn’t sure how to do an fba on this pattern. I’ve made the Sew Over It Frida. I initially intended to make the blouse because the pattern says you need 3.5m for the dress. However, when I laid it out I could see I could cut the yoke pieces beside the skirt and get the dress length from my 2.5m. I cut a size 8 but it felt a bit like a sack on me (I’m not really used to wearing things too oversized) so I took the sides in by about 1cm. I was following the sew-a-long and Lisa uses a 1cm seam allowance, not the 1.5cm in the instructions, for the neck which sits really nice for me. I love love love easy woven tops! I find that tops of natural fibres like cotton, linen, lawn , rayon or in this case cotton sateen more comfortable n cooling for daily wear in my humid climate. There is no way I can pass up on a woven top sew 😍 This is Frida top n dress from @sewoveritlondon . It's beautifully drafted n so flattering despite the generous ease. I'm between sizes 10 n 12; Usually I would trace in between the 2 sizes but for this pattern, I went for a straight size 10. The sleeves were shortened as I find 3/4 or 7/8 sleeves easier than long sleeves for my household chores. As a Sew Over It Pattern Insider, I’m pleased to share my make of their brand new pattern release, the Frida Top and Dress. . I’m all heart eyes 😍😍 for this pattern. It’s an easy, fun sew, with a beautifully faced front and back yoke using the burrito method. The front and back skirt utilize pleats rather than gathers, which I think gives it a smoother look. The slightly dropped, full sleeves are on trend but not overblown. . I sewed a size 16 with just a few mods: .5” forward shoulder and sloped shoulder adjustments, and 1” added length to the yoke, as my torso is long. All of these mods helped the fit and it is so comfortable to wear. I made it up in a yarn-dyed cotton I’ve had in my stash for a couple of years that is mid weight yet very soft and drapey. It worked perfectly in this top. . The pattern is quite versatile, with short and long sleeves, as well as top and dress lengths. During lockdown I made the #soifridadress and I did wear it for a few Zoom meetings. However, the fabric was quite lightweight for a dress and the fit was just too big for me so I never wore it again. I put it aside to upcycle and thanks to #sewupcycle23 it’s finally done. I started by putting the dress on and drawing where I wanted the new armhole to be. I then sewed along that line and about 2 inches in from the side seam before cutting away the arms and excess fabric. It immediately felt so much better when I put it on. After shortening the hem and finishing all the raw edges I have something I’m actually going to wear. A recently finished @sewoveritlondon Frida Dress. A lovely pattern but without a belt it looks like a Victorian nightgown on me, especially in this pale fabric. I only wore it the once before the heat hit but I think it will be a good addition to my wardrobe in the right weather, with the belt and some strong make up so I’m not so washed out. See the last slide for nightgown action with added bum static. Learnings - don’t use polyester as it clings and makes me really hot. I really don’t suit/like pale based fabrics. Just one more (wordy) post about my Daisy dress to explain exactly how I altered the SOI Frida dress pattern to make it so. I used a polyester taffeta for the under layer & a printed tulle for the over layer. I altered the bodice pattern by shaving approx 1” off each shoulder point so it ended at the end of my shoulder. (➡️image 5) I then cut a front and a back bodice piece from the taffeta and another set from the tulle. After basting the corresponding tulle pieces to the taffeta, I then used the pieces as one, sewing the shoulder seams and lining the bodice at the neckline, but not following the amazing burrito instructions this time as my sleeves have show-through and I wanted to encase the seams in the lining too. Using the pattern piece for the shorter skirt section, I drew a horizontal line across, a bit less than halfway down, accounting for the hemline and seam line, adding seam allowance to the bottom of the new top tier and the top of the new bottom tier. I cut the top tier, front and back pieces in taffeta. And for the daisy overlayer, I measured the final width and cut a rectangle of tulle double that measurement and to the same depth. I sewed the darts and the side seams of the taffeta layer. Then I sewed the side seams of the tulle pieces before gathering it to meet the same width of the top tier. I basted it along the seam line. (Definitely worth the basting so you can adjust those gathers as you go) (Continues in comments…)

Happy Fri-yay!! We made it through what has felt like the longest week of the year! . I’ve not been sewing this week, we have painting happening and building works finishing and I have three rooms of furniture and rubbish packed into my sewing room, but I did finish this @sewoveritlondon Frida dress last weekend before the chaos hit. . I’ve made the Sew Over It Frida. I initially intended to make the blouse because the pattern says you need 3.5m for the dress. However, when I laid it out I could see I could cut the yoke pieces beside the skirt and get the dress length from my 2.5m. I cut a size 8 but it felt a bit like a sack on me (I’m not really used to wearing things too oversized) so I took the sides in by about 1cm. I was following the sew-a-long and Lisa uses a 1cm seam allowance, not the 1.5cm in the instructions, for the neck which sits really nice for me. Here is the new Frida dress by @sewoveritlondon I am very happy with my fabric choice and the use of the border print. It was the oldest fabric in my stash, which I bought in Indonesia 6.5 years ago!!! I used some black viscose for the contrasting yoke. I made a straight size 8 and my only alteration was to remove some of the fullness from the sleeves. It works both with and without a belt but I prefer it with the belt. [#ad] Meet my new favourite autumn/winter dress, AKA the Frida dress from @sewoveritlondon which has just been realised today. I am in love with this seasonal transition piece. I mean just look at those sleeves 😍 . I made this up in a size 12, I did a slight shoulder adjustment to loose the sloping shoulders, and I added pockets and belt loops so that I can wear it with a self made belt. I’ve also pictured it loose, but I’m quite busty so I personally prefer it on me with the belt. This was very easy to add I just tried it on with the sides pinned, marked my waist and added loops. I then put in seam pockets just below this. . I made this up in an autumnal viscose from @rainbowfabrickilburn which is super cosy, and also really drapey. The length is halfway between the short and long versions because I was running short on fabric!! . This pattern was gifted to me as I’m a Sew Over It Pattern Insider, but I can honestly say that I 100% love this dress - it’s a super quick sew (this only took me a few hours) and I already have another cut out ready to sew. I love a @sewoverit #soigiselledress Comfortable, can be dressed up or down & a reasonably straightforward sew. I was able to cut and sew this in about 5 hours I have 4 giselle dresses now; have added long sleeves from the #soifridadress to a winter version, and for this summer version, I modified the sleeves to be slightly long and looser to be a flutter sleeve. I am also able to omit the zip on this pattern, which (for me) is a huge time saver! When you love a pattern so much you cut out the next version as soon as you’ve finished the first 😍 . I’m not joking, I started this @sewoveritlondon Frida the day I finished my last one - I told you it was my new autumn/winter uniform!! I’m definitely seeing my colder weather style evolve into looser styles with long sleeves, this is the fourth dress in this kind of style I’ve made in the past year. . This one is in a William Morris style viscose twill that I bought from @sewmesunshine.uk at the end of last year. I always knew it was destined for a dress with big sleeve energy, but I just wasn’t sure exactly what that would be until Frida came along. . I did the same mods as last time (belt loops, added pockets, reduced slope on shoulders) and I also cut the skirt little narrower so it’s not quite as billowy when it’s loose. [Ad*] Hello 👋 pattern insider here with my Frida Dress, the September pattern from @sewoveritlondon I made a size 22 with a narrow shoulder adjustment. My measurements (B50 W45 H52) put me between a 22 and a 24 but because of the ease I thought I could get away with the 22. I think I problably could have gone down another size or maybe even more but I wasn’t sure how to do an fba on this pattern. Lately I'm all about comfort and fluid shapes and the new #soifridadress from @sewoveritlondon fits the bill. Inspired by the peasant style blouses and dresses worn by Frida Kahlo, it features a front and back yoke (burrito style instructions), with pleats on both sides of the bodice and a choice of a simple short sleeve or a fuller long sleeve with elasticized wrists. It can be made in a variety of fabrics for different looks. The patterns goes up to size UK 30 (60 inch hip): for my frame of B37W32W37 and 5'3" I made a size 12 with no fit modifications. . I made the above the knee dress version in a beautifully fluid, but easy to manage, Japanese silk crepe from @GinnysFineFabrics I hacked the pattern to add pockets and a sash. It’s definitely autumn in New York!! We are here for a week, and so far it’s been drizzly and cold - very much like home. . I love love love easy woven tops! I find that tops of natural fibres like cotton, linen, lawn , rayon or in this case cotton sateen more comfortable n cooling for daily wear in my humid climate. There is no way I can pass up on a woven top sew 😍 This is Frida top n dress from @sewoveritlondon . It's beautifully drafted n so flattering despite the generous ease. I'm between sizes 10 n 12; Usually I would trace in between the 2 sizes but for this pattern, I went for a straight size 10. The sleeves were shortened as I find 3/4 or 7/8 sleeves easier than long sleeves for my household chores. Tried a new pattern last weekend from @sewoveritlondon that I bought during the VIP sale - this is the #fridadress The pattern says that I needed 4.3m of fabric but with some very careful placement and shortening the skirt by 3 inches I was able to get this out of 3m - with pockets from the off cuts!! As a Sew Over It Pattern Insider, I’m pleased to share my make of their brand new pattern release, the Frida Top and Dress. . I’m all heart eyes 😍😍 for this pattern. It’s an easy, fun sew, with a beautifully faced front and back yoke using the burrito method. The front and back skirt utilize pleats rather than gathers, which I think gives it a smoother look. The slightly dropped, full sleeves are on trend but not overblown. . I sewed a size 16 with just a few mods: .5” forward shoulder and sloped shoulder adjustments, and 1” added length to the yoke, as my torso is long. All of these mods helped the fit and it is so comfortable to wear. I made it up in a yarn-dyed cotton I’ve had in my stash for a couple of years that is mid weight yet very soft and drapey. It worked perfectly in this top. . The pattern is quite versatile, with short and long sleeves, as well as top and dress lengths. The Pattern Insiders have made many iterations of it already and I can attest to the beautiful and varied outcomes.
