New work outfit, the jacket I finished at the @virtualsewingroom last night. I'm really happy with this outfit, especially the jacket. The pattern is from @sewtogrow and is called the #kaiacoatigan It's the first pattern I've made from this pattern company, and I really like the simple, easy to follow instructions. It's a quick make as it's not lined, I did forget that I am short and should have shortened the pattern piece. So it came out too long, I did take off a few inches, which meant I lost the curved hem at the front. When I make it again, I will remember to change the pattern. The skirt is a hack of the @sewoveritlondon #soinomidress, the fabric is a lovely blue cheetah print lycra jersey from @poundfabrics The t shirt is self drafted in a cotton jersey from my local fabric shop @sewathomebarnstaple. Today, I'm wearing another @sewoveritlondon Nomi Dress, I love this pattern. I always make the same pattern alterations, I lower the neckline, make the bottle tier shorter, and I don't bother with the elastic at the waist. The fabric is from @fabriclanduk, it was quite slippy to sew. Made another attempt at making knit/woven dress combo, this time, applying all the lessons I learned from version 1. For this round, I used the Sew Over It Nomi Dress pattern as a base. Although it’s designed entirely for woven fabrics, I decided to experiment. I chose it specifically for its A-line skirt, hoping to achieve a fuller hem with less bulk at the waist and it worked beautifully. Fabric choices: for the bodice I used a cotton jersey (size 10, graded to 12 at the waist. For the skirt, I used a cotton poplin (size 12) Here’s the method I followed: (1) Cut bodice and skirt pieces as usual (lengthening the skirt longer to make it midaxi length) (2) Used the Nomi pattern’s elastic measurement, split into two. (3) Sewed elastic to each skirt piece using a zig-zag stitch, stretching as I went, while keeping the side seam allowance clear. The stretch and sew method will gather the skirt piece to the same width as the bodice. (4) Overlocked each skirt piece to the bodice (front and back separately). (5) Assembled the rest as per pattern: shoulders, neckband, sleeves, then sewed everything together from sleeve to hem. I felt the approach was spot on for what I was trying to achieve. The cotton jersey bodice gave it the right stretch and comfort, while the poplin skirt added that perfect structure I was missing in the first version. Feeling pretty chuffed with the method now! Next tweak: I might play around with widening the skirt pieces even more for some extra volume. I have already posted about the two @sewoveritlondon Nomi dresses and Nomi top hack I've made before. I love this pattern, so I have made another 5 dresses and 3 top hacks. With all the dresses, I have lowered the necklines, shortened the bottom tier, and I haven't put the elastic in the waist. I can now make this dress in an hour, I do it all on my overlocker apart from the hem and the sleeve hems. I also made another 2 Nomi peplum tops with short sleeves and a long sleeve version, which I also put some shirring elastic at the waist. This won't be a surprise but I've made another @sewoveritlondon nomi dress. This time I didn't add the bottom tier and made it with long sleeves, I did my normal alteration of shortening the bodice by 2 inches and I never bother putting any elastic at the waist. It is such a quick make, and I made it in one of the @virtualsewingroom sessions. This pattern has been a staple for me in the summer and now with tights and boots for the colder months All my nomi dresses have been a godsend the last 2 weeks, I've had a hysterectomy and my stomach is very swollen so these dresses have been the perfect thing to wear. #soinomidress

Another @sewoveritlondon Nomi, but this time as a peplum top. I find the bodice very flattering on this pattern, it skims over lumps and bumps. On this make I lowered the neckline, I didn't add the elastic at the waist and obviously shortened the length. I made it in a lovely floral jersey from @minervadotcom. This dress is a variation on the #soinomidress. I redrafted the sleeves to be cap sleeves. The fabric has the pretty embroidered border on one selvage, has stretch in the horizontal direction, but has no vertical stretch. That presented a problem for the skirt since I wanted to use the embroidered border as the bottom of the skirt. 🎄🎄Christmas dress 🎄🎄 When I first saw Kam’s @ready_steady_sew #soinomidress in velvet from @minervadotcom I knew I wanted one. The fabric is “floral resort crushed velvet” The Nomi dress is one of my favourite ever patterns. It’s a knit pattern and it’s so simple in style that it lets fabric shine, and is a simple make. My plan was to make this dress maxi length but when I tried it on, I quite liked it short. If I have a more dressy event, maybe I will lengthen in time. In the last few days, I have been really productive with my sewing. On Friday, I spent some time cutting out patterns and putting together some pdf patterns. On Saturday, I cut out 1 t shirt, 2 blouses, 1 dress, and one pair of trousers. I also had time to sew on Saturday, I started with the t shirt. It was a lovely quick make it was the @tillybuttons frankie t shirt from Tillys stretch book. I love the simplicity of this top but also the options to colour block, I chose a lovely viscose lycra from @legendtextiles. I then moved onto the dress, the @sewoveritlondon Nomi Dress. It was the first time I used this pattern, and I love it. It was so quick to sew together and a joy to make. As soon as I put it on I knew that this pattern was going to be my go-to pattern, it feels so swirly and comfy. The fabric is a jersey with a burgundy and black pattern on a white background, not my normal style but I really like it. Again, this fabric is from @legendtextiles. On Sunday, I hemmed the dress and started sewing the Augustina blouse for my entry into the sewaprilblouse challenge, which I've done a separate post on.
