This dress has been on my WIP pile for months, and waiting patiently for sleeves and a hem, mostly because I was somehow convinced I wouldn’t actually like how it looked. And while I am not convinced it’s my finest work (more on that below), I am pretty happy with it and it deserves to be finished. . This is the @sewoveritlondon Aida dress in a viscose crepe from @rainbowfabrickilburn - I think it’s Nobody’s Child deadstock. . I copied @lynsey_makes and shortened the sleeves, but kept the shirring. This was one element I was suddenly really unsure about, but actually I love the sleeves!! My major issue with this one is that it feels too loose under the bust - I extended the bodice so my bust was fully covered (same as I did last time) but this fabric sits differently and it looks very loose under the bust. I could definitely go back in and try and fix it, but TBC whether it bothers me enough to actually do that - it needs a bit of wear first to see how I feel. . Overall I’m pretty pleased though, and it will make a lovely work dress. Something I still need more of at the moment. . Day 18 of #memademay2022 and I'm working on a toile for a friend's dress. It's boiling here, so I'm happy rediscover my gingham #talcufftop in my wardrobe changeover, worn with #nl6459. . . Combining with #waiwot, my current project. One great thing about sewing for friends is I learn lots about fitting. Behind me is bodice toile number 2 which has a deep armsyce adjustment, see picture 2 (note: the sleeve has to have the same adjustment too, but isn't pictured). I have also done narrow, sloping and forward shoulder adjustment on this version..it's like a course on shoulder adjustments. The original pattern is the lovely #soiaidadress. Fingers 🤞. I knew it wouldn't be long until I made another @sewoveritlondon #soiaidadress 🥰. This fabric was kindly given to me by a colleague and I had just enough for this dress 👍 thrilled!!! I'm not sure what it is, some kind of wool mix, so it's perfect for the winter. I really like the colour and pattern too. The panelled skirt and gathering instead of bust darts gives this dress a nice silhouette. Though I did make some alterations on this one - shorter sleeves, as I didn't have enough fabric for the longer/shirred cuff ones of the pattern but I think it looks just as nice with short sleeves too tbh. And I added 1 and 1/2 cm to the neckline just so it sits higher on me and I find this more comfortable. Obviously I've had to pair it with my old bobbly cardigan because its bloody freezing 🥶❄️!! The dress finally has sleeves! This dress has been almost finished for a while now. I took a long break from it when it was time to make the sleeves and the shirring. But instead of shirring the end of the sleeves now I just finished it with an elastic band. How often do you make a garment, which you like, but it has a niggly something which stops you reaching for it? . . It happens to me, so this afternoon, I set to changing these three makes... Little alterations, but I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself. . . First up this flannel #archershirt which I made maybe six years ago. The fabric was a special gift and I spent a while matching the plaid. To make the most of the fabric I made a tunic length, but it wasn't right.. So today I shortened it. After thinking about it for years, it took me 20 minutes. 🤦. . . Secondly, this shirred cuff on this #soiaidadress was too floppy...I'm blaming the elastic! I tried a couple of ideas but in the end I took out the shirring and sewed an elastic casing. . . Lastly, this #stokxbirdyblouse deserved more love, but I didn't feel right with the big collar... I made this dress a few weeks back and it’s finally warm enough to wear it. 🐈‍⬛🧵 Cat Short Hem Aida Dress🧵🐈‍⬛ (Ad/PR 💕) I have a collection of @sewoveritlondon Aida dresses and they are my go to in the autumn and spring. This version is a beautiful cat print @minervadotcom exclusive viscose challis. The Aida Dress comes in size 6 (31”, 24”, 34”) to 30 (57”, 50”, 60”). I made the dress in size 10 in the bust and graded to a size 12 in the hips, which is how I usually grade Sew Over It patterns. I love how subtle the print is in this fabric with the cat outlines jumping around the fabric. I think it creates such a sophisticated look to a cat print fabric and means you can make office wear. I love a cat print, and have quite a few, but those are possibly tailored more towards a fun print top/blouse or a summer dress (more cat summer dresses are planned for my honeymoon wardrobe 😻) I chose to make version 1 with the normal sleeves and decide how I want the hem to sit when it’s all sewn up. I remembered that the sleeves on my other versions have been coming out a little loose on the wrists and I keep finding myself wishing I could pull them up. Therefore, I decided to have ¾ sleeves. I also chopped a fair bit of the hem (after letting it hang). I love the longer hem but I wanted something that I could wear to meet friends, head to the pub or wander around town rather than to the office. I've not worn this dress through the winter, but can't wait till the warmer spring weather comes in. I plan on wearing it with my new Amelia jackets and brogues or boots. 🧵🪡 Sew Over It Aida Dress 🪡🧵 The Aida Dress has been a favourite sew the past couple of months. I've made a couple of versions but knew I wanted to replace the previous button print Aida I made last year. It was lovely but slightly right and the zip broke almost immediately. I decided to make version 1 with the narrow sleeves and wear it a couple of inches below the knee. I wanted to dress that I could wear out and about running errands, at a restaurant but also at work. I didn't change much on the pattern other then tapering the sleeve slightly from the elbow. I have quite narrow wrists and found my previous dress was really loose around the wrists. I think I could have taken more in on the sleeves and will probably do this next time. I may take up the hem if I find myself reaching for my shorter versions. The fabric is a gorgeous button print Viscose that I found in the remnant bins at Abakhan. It's such a gorgeous fabric and has a lovely drape to it. In the colder months I am pairing the dress with an oversized jumper or my short cut roll neck jumpers. As the spring comes in I'll be able to pair them with my Amelia Jackets or Denim jacket! I feel like it's been a while since I've done any dressmaking. I typically don't do a lot during the colder months as I basically live in jumpers and jeans, plus I've gone back to college one night a week to learn how to draft my own patterns!!
