As I have stated before, I hate cutting out, so rather than sewing up my Bob's pants, I decided to spend today cutting out a couple more things. The first one was the Estelle dress, and I got the fabric from Sew Affordable Fabrics a long time ago. I already have one Estelle dress, which I love, so I thought I would make another one. The 2nd dress was New Look N6651, and I got the fabric from Hey Sew Sister in Edingbrough just over a month ago when I went with the ladies from Sewing North. Ended 2024 and started 2025 with stretch fabric projects! The black and white patterned dress is McCalls 8058, the black and gold mesh is the same pattern with a customised side ruching, I made a 14, raised the waistline an inch and took it in a little on the side seams. the animal print is the Estelle dress from Sew Over It. Sewing Insta came through with a great Sezane Pippa dress hack which I had to try for myself. Sew Over It Estelle dress for knitted fabric/jersey was a hoot to make and is so comfy and flattering. I sewed it with Maraflex thread (game changer, I know!) but it could be sewn (mostly) on overlock too. I adjusted the length to fit the amount of fabric I had, and I sewed the 3/4 length sleeves. I also went with a slit on one side, although I’m not entirely convinced yet. It came together so fast, it was the perfect project after making my pal’s ball gown for a month plus (more on that later). I sized down compared to the measurements, as my fabric was quite stretchy. I bought it from the lovely @veroniquefabric in Elgin. Honestly, that place is a treasure chest of a fabric shop, and Veronique is so lovely and helpful. I went to London at the weekend to see my favourite musician (Laura Marling!) and catch up with friends. Managed to squeeze in a couple of hours at Goldhawk Road before heading home, to top up the fabric stash too ☺️. Excited to get started with these beauties! Plans so far are a Sew Over It Estelle Dress #soiestelledress with the raspberry cotton jersey, a Papercut Patterns Nova Coat #novacoat with the black and gold/copper wool and a cropped jacket, probably Sew Over It Coco #soicocojacket with the blue brocade. Not sure yet for the cream and gold, but probably something very simple, maybe a Fibre Mood Frances #fibremoodfrances. There’s lots of sparkles everywhere at the moment… getting festive!

Feel very Sezane inspired by adding this dress to my collection. It may look a little strange on the hanger but I love how it is worn. This was a lovely burnt orange colored (the color is most accurate in the video, the fotos are to saturated …) viscose French terry I found in my stash (can’t remember where I got it from, which is a really bad sign and means I should go on a fabric shopping ban for the rest of the year at least…) The pattern I used is the @sewoveritlondon #soiestelledress but I left off the sleeves and just turned the arme hole over and stitched it down with a twin needle. I’m having a bit of a neon phase at the moment, so when I saw a remnant of this amazing jersey from @clothkits I knew I had to have it. 😍😍 The photos don’t capture the neon watermelons enough! 🍉🍉🍉🍉 I call it my ‘I carried a watermelon’ dress from Dirty Dancing 🤣🤣 The pattern is the @sewoveritlondon #soiestelledress which I first made a couple of years ago. It’s a great and uncomplicated sew. The pattern pieces look weird to make the tie but it all comes together beautifully. It’s such a versatile pattern - my first dress using it was in a crushed velvet, but the jersey gives it a completely different vibe. I put only one of the side splits in, but that’s the only real mod I made, if it can be called that! I also used neon thread, obviously 🤩 The last picture shows my stripes all neatly lined up at the seam - worth the extra effort to do and I’m pleased with how well they match. And I’ve even got enough fabric left to make a pair of knickers! 🩲

I’m loving this dress pattern! It’s super easy and quick to sew. It decided to go for a shorter length to wear with opaque tights but it also comes in longer lengths. It’s designed for knit fabrics so I can see this working well with lots of different styles for different occasions - stretch velvet and sequins for parties, thicker soft knits for winter day dresses. Another version of the #soiestelledress because it’s so comfortable, easy to wear and always gets compliments. Made with the same tweaks as my green one. The original wine coloured one was a bit tight so this is to replace it in a slightly different colour.

I'm rather cuffed at how my @sewoveritlondon Estelle Dress has turned out. I have been looking at recent Sézane offerings and realised this was just the pattern fabric combo I have been planning for a while, but not really sure the viscose jersey from my stash was the right weight. I have made this once before so knew what a fab clever pattern it is. This feels quite casual with the short sleeves and straighter cut. I have previously made it with long sleeves and it has a more formal look. It pairs perfectly with my Coco Jacket too! I made a size 12 with no alterations and sewed just about all of it on my Overlocker apart from the hems. Here I used a Maraflex thread and a double needle. It's quite close fitting and I feel rather exposed compared to most looser fitting clothes I wear. I made this Florence Dress by Sew Over It in December. It is currently a flop for me, but I'm determined to turn it into a win. I was very silly to not do a full bust adjustment, and I based the amount of ease on the pattern photos rather than the finished garment measurements. All total beginner errors, and I've ended up with a dress that is way too tight in the bodice.  Both the bust and the upper back are incredibly tight, despite taking as much as I could out of the arm and side seams. I added so many buttons just to keep it secure. The top is riding up way more than the back at the waist. I've accepted that this will become a skirt. I even cut the bodice off on my last YouTube video. 😬 This fabric came from Sister Mintaka, and is one of their own viscose prints. I love the colors and the crazy mashup of prints so much. It's a fabric that feels slightly out of my comfort zone, in a good way. I really love the look of this fabric on me, which makes it particularly disappointing that this dress didn't work out.  I have some additional scraps from cutting this out. My plan is to create a top or two, to have matching separates. A project for the spring.

My Christmas Day dress. I’ve made this dress a couple of times before but my metallic fabric was a lot more stretchy and needed a few alterations! 🐆 Estelle Dress 🐆 This project took me out of my comfort zone—and I’m so glad it did! I bought the Estelle pattern last year but kept putting it off. When I found this perfect leopard print in a destash (thank you, leopard-print craze!), I decided it was finally time to give it a try. I’ve never worn animal print before, but the subtle shade won me over. I cut a size 14 graded to a 16 at the hips, though next time, I might size down to a 12 in the bust area since the fabric has some stretch. Normally, figure-hugging styles aren’t my thing, but this dress might just change that. It earned me so many compliments, and more importantly, I felt amazing in it!
