Do you get a sewing idea in your head that just won't go away? . . So it was with the idea of a flat front, elasticated back skirt... especially as I wear my Pietra shorts so much. Gathered skirts don't work on my shortwaisted torso, but I liked the idea of an easy pull on skirt. . Now I've come across a couple of patterns, but thought I wanted to try to work it out for myself, and not buy more patterns. Then 1.5m of this lovely linen cotton blend from @minervadotcom came through the post and it seemed just right for a late summer skirt. The print is called Pop Cheetah.. and it certainly pops! . . The starting point for the skirt is the lovely #soipippadress pattern @sewoveritlondon and in my post on the Minerva site I've explained how I did it. ➡️https://www.minerva.com/post/241775 . . In fact, there are two posts on Minerva. I used leftover fabric to make the #fridaysquarenecktop and while I was at it made a second in cream linen. I've spent much of August making more complicated things so this was a great palate cleanser. . . Finally hemmed my #soipippadress Was so afraid to trim the hem but ot did end up quite nice. This was a labour of love, with a hand sewn zipper. I love the look of the dress but I’ll have to get use to this style of dress. Think it will get loads of wear this summer. I’ve done some selfless sewing and made a Pippa dress by @sewoveritlondon for my daughter.🧵I made it using 2 metres of their lovely Felicity fabric in teal. 🧵 She’s very slim so I had to adjust the size 6 bodice into a smaller size. However, it was still a little loose on her so I had to add some ties in the back so she can cinch it more (see last photo). 🧵 For the buttons, I used some vintage ones in orange as the colour went well with some of the flowers. I only had 6, however, so I had to space them out a bit more. 🧵 I finished it with French seams throughout which was a challenge when it came to sewing the slit. New make: #soipippadress by @sewoveritlondon Nicole @septemberfaden and I were very inspired by Suzy @sewing_in_spain when she modelled this dress for @sewoveritlondon in January. We immediately started a sewalong for the two of us, even using the same fabric. But then life got in the way and we couldn't finish this make together. 😥 So here I am alone in my new pippadress taking part in two challenges. I hope the dress fits into the @sewover50 challenge #sewoverageism2023 . The pattern company features Suzy (a 45+ model) on their grid. Check out the beautiful Suzy @sewing_in_spain in this dress. Hooray 🎉 for the decorative button solution without buttonholes (slide 2)! I can't wait to see what Nicole's dress will look like. She has opted for a different length and sleeve variation. 🌻 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻 A hacked #soigiselledress I made for a party at the weekend but had so much fun I didn’t take a picture so I wore to work today so I could use the full length mirror 😌 👗 Giselle dress from @sewoveritlondon 🪡 I took the neckline down by about 1cm and made a V neck at the back to the Start of the zip. Full bust adjustment on the bodice and took out 1cm from the back seam. And added the sleeves from the #soipippadress because I thought the fabric deserved some 1970s bell sleeves 🕺 🧵 fabric is a really soft needle cord that I bought in the Christmas sale from sew over it.

I finally made a Pippa Dress and literally just in time for my holiday (as in sewing on the buttons at 10pm the night before we left) 😂 I absolutely LOVE this dress. I know I say that a lot but I really do. The style is a little more fitted than I usually go for (no gathers 👏), I tackled an invisible zip (my nemesis) and I love the length and split. I did have to play around with grading and resizing a little with this one to get the fit right and I’m so glad I took the time to do that because I love it and want to make another immediately. This is my latest make for @minervadotcom so a full write up with sizing changes, more photos etc will be coming very soon but, for now, I couldn’t wait to share 🤗 Have you tried the Pippa Dress yet? Detail shot of my new #soipippadress 🤎🧡 The buttons on this dress are actually not functional! I didn't realize that until I made it. The dress has a side zipper, so they are only a design choice, which I love. At first, I imagined this dress in black linen, but then I decided to make use of my huge leftover fabric bag and *SHOCKING* use what I have for once! That's how I came up with the idea of using two tones of brown - I just didn't have enough to make it in one color 😄 The best ideas always come from restrictions... always! Don't you agree?

Perfect Pippa! It took about 5 seconds from seeing the Pippa dress by @sewoveritlondon to decided I wanted to make it and mentally go through my stash to see what I would use… and it didn’t disappoint. I got this on a Monday and decided I wanted to wear it to my dads 70th birthday that Saturday so the @kylieandthemachine label is particularly apt here. Fortunately this looks a lot more involved than it is and I’d say in an afternoon (4hours) you could both cut it and make it up. It’s a faux wrap, so the buttons are merely decorative. I love this and made a straight size 12 with a narrow shoulder adjustment. I could get away with bringing the waist in slightly. The instructions were fab, but the fabric requirements were hugely overstated. I took 2 inches off the length because I’m 5”3 and I used less than 3 meters. This viscose is from @rainbowfabrickilburn and is stunning. They usually sell out very quickly but there’s still some of this left. I wore this to Mother’s Day lunch today but have also worn it for a walk and for a night out. Swipe across to see. Week three of Me Made May! Started off week 3 with the same illness that took Liam out last week so it was a PJ day but fortunately I have lovely new memade pjs (note this photo was not taken on my sick day!) I absolutely love the @matchymatchysewingclub brunch club set - this was my first pair made out of @minervadotcom cotton sateen. I made a straight size m with no adjustments and the fit is perfect. I used 3 mtrs of fabric. I loved this so much I went on to make a short pair which I got out of 2 meters AND then I made a pair of my friend out of viscose. I have to say - the viscose pair was a bit tricky and it’s not as neat as my cotton pairs. Fortunately my friend is a sewist herself so she knows the craic! I've just had a 'Ladies doing Lunch' day and my Sew Over It Pippa Dress fitted the bill perfectly. This is the first time I've made this pattern, and the first time I've worked with a viscose fabric. I found I had to use a lot of pins to stop the fabric from moving around. I'm really pleased with how this has turned out. It's such a pretty dress and one I'll definitely be making again. Here’s some more details on my #SOIPippaDress collection which will inevitably only keep growing 😅 I think my #diyrouje dreams have peaked with the red/pink one; I jumped on this fabric from @pretty_mercerie as it’s such a good dupe for Rouje! For all my Pippa I used the midi view and added the slit. On the floral dress I hacked the sleeves to have more volume but on the rest it’s the short sleeve view from the pattern. 🚨New favourite dress alert🚨 Mmmm yep this is a good one 🥰 I fell for the @sewoveritlondon Pippa on release and felt like all my Rouje-esque pattern prayers had been answered! I used my credit for a free pattern as a #souvipclub member 🤓 This took a couple of toiles to get right but I’m (almost) happy with the fit. Adjustments made to size 14; 🪩 narrow shoulder adjustment 1.5cm 🪩 then moved the whole shoulder on front and back in by another 1cm to accommodate my apparently child shoulders 🤦‍♀️ 🪩 I’ll also shorten the bodice by 1-1.5cm next as you can see it’s gathering a little above my waist I made the midi length which took about 2.5m instead of the 4 recommended! #dublinfrocktails OMG - what an amazing night. A roomful of 80 plus inspiring sewists! The creativity was off the charts, and when the catwalk was on I could believe the diversity in patterns, fabrics, styles etc. so inspiring! I left wanting to make trousers - how?!?! (@claireggilmore that’s how!) I played it safe and made the @sewoveritlondon Pippa dress in @minervadotcom viscose challis. I felt like a 70s dream! I left off the buttons for a more dressed up vibe. I managed to squeeze this over of 2.5mtrs of fabric and made the size 12 with a narrow shoulder adjustment. As with Belfast Frocktails I was really poor at photo taking. There was a photographer on the night so I can’t wait to see them. All the dreamy dreamy dresses, jumpsuits, two pieces. Pippa dress This was always going to be a wearable toile, and I'm not sure I love it enough to persevere with the pattern. First the positives: - this colour is a surprising win. I bought the fabric on sale and it turned out much brighter than expected, but actually I think I can wear this bright blue. - I feel like I can pull off a skirt slit, this isn't a particularly high one, but I rather like it. The issues: - there is way too much fabric in the bust, and I don't exactly know how to fix it without major alterations - I feel self-conscious of my tummy and hips in this skirt - it's more clingy than I feel comfortable wearing at the moment. - the Deer and Doe Magnolia dress has a very similar bodice and I have already perfected the fit on that one. So, all-in-all a mixed result, but that's why I didn't use special fabric for it. This was able wearable toile number 1 in my grand plan for what I'm wearing to my brother's wedding in November. She’s THAT dress ♥️ here’s the star of my #handmadeholiday wardrobe that I don’t want to take off! I used #n6692 for the bodice and took 1cm off the sides of the front panel as it’s quite wide. A while back I decided I wanted a simple midi skirt to wear in summer, but that would also take me into autumn with boots. I was thinking of a wrap and then had the idea to use the skirt from the #soipippadress to create a faux wrap. I think it worked out well. . . So nice I made it twice, it’s another Pippa dress! ♥️ Here’s my entry for #sewrecreatethelook23 which is such a fun and inspiring challenge. I was racing to finish my entry today after a stint in the sun (seriously, learn from my mistake and wear sunscreen 😂) If you’ve been following me a while you’ll know I love the Rouje brand but having tried them on, their dresses are too broad for me on the shoulders (and not very size inclusive) so I’ve made my own Gabin ❣️ The pattern is the very similar #soipippadress which I made a size 14 with 2.5cm narrow shoulder adjustment, 1cm forward shoulder adjustment and shortened the bodice 1cm The fabric is a viscose from @rainbowfabrickilburn and is a dead ringer for the original (swipe to see!) This is my first post in almost two years! Where do I even begin? ⚜️ I'm a mom of two now! (Hence not posting...😄) ⚜️ Having no time for my usual creative outlets, I started to write poetry (in Hebrew). I've been writing a song a day in the last year ✍️ ⚜️ I still teach sewing, and now working on expanding my activity after being a full-time mom for the last year. SO...what am I wearing?? This is the Pippa dress by @sewoveritlondon 🤎 Size 14 graded to 16 on the hips. #soipippadress I've used two shades of brown linen to make it, and hopefully it will be warmer soon and it will have its first debut outside 🤞 I've missed being part of this community and I have more handmade clothes that I can't wait to share :) Come say Hi in the comments!!!
