AND the Adrienne Blouse is made out of a very old but sought after viscose crepe jersey print. Throwback to a very sunny trip to Oxford last weekend. It was such a beautifully summery day that I had to wear my new skirt. I made the Ruby skirt for my friend last year and it's been on my to-sew list for me ever since. I can see myself wearing this a lot this summer, and maybe even making another in a plain fabric to wear with all my patterned t-shirts. Eagle-eyed followers may recognise this print - it's the pink colourway of the blue leaf print dress I made a few weeks back! It's a viscose linen base which is always so nice to wear. The colours of this one are actually a bit peachier than I would usually go for which is why I made a skirt not a dress. But it goes perfectly with a neutral coloured t-shirt and looks lovely in the sunshine. Had a giggle when I got this fabric in my latest #sewhayleyjanesubscription as I’d literally just said to @sequingirlie at the recent sewcial ‘I love a check but then start overthinking the pattern matching’. With our conversation fresh in my head I decided to not to sit on the fabric as I loved it and thought it needed to be a skirt. Enter the free pattern by @sewoveritlondon #soirubyskirt Came together quickly during @thready_setgo virtual session. I did hand sew the elastic channel down as I could not wiggle it along and not catch the elastic with the machine. I’m rather chuffed at the pattern matching particularly those pockets 🥳 The buttons were also from a @sewhayleyjane box made by @beckys_sewing_studio I personally think they work really well. I saw a three piece set on a horrible probably-uses-sweatshops website, but I thought it was cute.. so I plotted. @rainbowfabrickilburn to the rescue. My #TopNine for the year according to Instagram likes. I do enjoy looking back at my year in this way, although it always amuses me how weird the algorithm is that certain makes make the cut and others that I thought would be more popular don't. We have a few themes this year. I made my first #DDMagnolia dress for my mum and then hacked it to make 2 #Magnolodie (crossed with the #ClosetCoreElodie) dresses, one as a proof of concept and one for my brother's wedding. My brother's wedding waistcoat is a very welcome late addition to the grid having only shared details about it last week. I embraced red this year, with a red spotted #SOIMargueriteDress and another #HinterlandDress in red linen. This was also the post that debuted my daisy tattoo. Deep pink, my favourite colour, is a continued theme in my makes, with my wedding outfit and my chunky cord #SewingSonny jacket. I really must find more ways to wear this this year. Finally we have two random additions. The #CoolCrafting Christmas surprise from last Christmas, and the #SOIRubySkirt I made for a lovely friend. It has been a very good sewing year. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with what to sew next. I go back to work in a week or so and I need some tops more than anything but I was getting distracted by all the things. In my wardrobe overhaul adventure, I've been learning that stopping to take time to think and visualize has meant I am already starting to build a more wearable wardrobe. Tonight, I cleaned up my sewing room and then drew all the ideas whirling around in my head. As I went, my ideas became more and more nebulous. I know that I should start with the things I drew first after the #closetcoreonyx and #amesjeans that I already made. Planning like this has meant less pattern and fabric shopping, as well. I know I have what I need and I have a direction. Even when I really love something , it is easier to say "not right now". I even already have all the patterns except the #iman Skirt by @just_patterns, and I will get it when I am ready to make it. ❤ I think tomorrow I will start working on some t-shirts and maybe the #metrablazer. 💗🍭Tie-dye Ruby Skirt🍭💗 I love my blue leopard print @sewoveritlondon #soirubyskirt so much that I added it to my #makenine2025 plans for this year. I love the style of this skirt, it’s super easy to construct and the elasticated back waist makes it super comfy and easy to fit. I love the beautiful colours in this tie-dye style satin viscose fabric from @rainbowfabrickilburn . Unfortunately, the quality is shocking! The fabric frayed badly and was super slippy making cutting out and constructing seams difficult. I persisted and was happy with the finished garment. I took these photos before wearing it for the first time out to brunch. I later realised that I had a large patch on the front of the skirt where it had snagged and pulled massively. I am disappointed but in hindsight maybe this fabric wasn’t the most appropriate for this pattern. My latest make, #soirubyskirt from some fabric a bought a pre cut from @cottonmoonblandford I absolutely loved the fabric and really pleased with the skirt. This fabric is one I bought last year from Vinted, so I don’t know what type of fabric it is, but it works perfectly for this pattern. The instructions were so clear and the fit is perfect - I made a straight size 12 and won’t make any adjustments other than maybe to the length. I’m not sure what the fabric is, but I bought it this time last year from @vinted specifically for this challenge as I didn’t get the chance to sew anything up last year. A self-portrait with a litter box (basically, I need to think where and how I can take photos of myself). After over 1.5 years I made my second Ruby skirt from @sewoveritlondon. Now I am more confident in sewing and the result is much better so I'm happy with my work. I got the fabric from my mom, it was gifted to her too. Slightly stretchy, pretty firm cotton but this skirt really stands out in this fabric, I love it more than I thought! I wore it for all Monday and it felt great. To be honest, I like it even more than my first version made of viscose. Buttons are vintage - the round ones are from my grandad's (who was a tailor) stash, they are at least 40 years old if not more. I had only 5 of them so I ended up using a triangle vintage button I bought a few years ago, as a waistband closure. I waited a while before sewing my precious cut of Aizu Cotton. Japanese handcrafted in Fukushima-province, I visited the factory and chatted for a while with the women making it. Made on hundred years old Toyota looms, it is 30-ish cm wide and I used the 6 meters cut I had for this #sewoverit #soirubyskirt The true colors are the second picture onwards.
