What is an outfit without a matching bag…?! This is the @sewoveritlondon Bow Bag, which I made today (well, I started it yesterday and finished it today!). When I first saw this bag last year, I wasn’t overly keen as it was designed primarily as a clutch bag (you slip your hand through the bow at the front) and I’m not a huge fan of clutch bags. However, I discovered recently that you can add loops in to incorporate a shoulder strap - brilliant! I decided the first one should be a match for my birthday daytime outfit (the spotty Zadie jumpsuit!) so I could get any mistakes out of the way before doing one to match my evening outfit. And there were mistakes aplenty! Despite clear and simple instructions, and a fab sewalong tutorial by @almitamade, I still managed to go wrong about 5 times 😂 I made things more difficult for myself by adding a zip pocket inside too - who doesn’t love an inside pocket on a bag?! But that was one of the mistakes - I put it on the front lining piece instead of the back one 🙄🙄 All in all, though, I’m pretty pleased with this one and it goes so well with the Zadie. And I couldn’t not add a label from @whatvickimade, alongside one for @minervadotcom, which is where I got the gorgeous spotty cotton fabric from. 🩷🎀 Birthday Dress 🎀🩷 My birthday dress this year was yet another #barbarabodice and #millicentskirt combination. I’ve used the most fabulous and vibrant pink 100% silk taffeta from @fabricgodmother purchased in the 2023 Black Friday sale. I also purchased a purple remnant piece to use as contrast for this make. I’ve used the wide strap version for this dress. The box pleats work well in the taffeta due to the structure of the fabric - they really hold their shape! The dress is fully lined in a deadstock Ted Baker floral pink satin. It really feels luxurious to wear and I’m so happy with how this has turned out. I’ve used the 3/4 circle skirt from the Lamour pattern for the skirt lining. I bought 5m of the pink silk taffeta and a 1.4m remnant piece of the purple silk. I have used up as much of it as I possibly can by making some matching accessories, including: 🎀 hair bow 🩷 a matching bag 🎀 shoe bows 🩷 a shawl As you may have seen I’ve started to make some headbands and of course I had to make sure this outfit had a matching ruffle headband crown (with extra sparkle!) for for the birthday girl! The vibrancy and quality of this fabric is amazing. ✨ Frocktails! ✨ This dress is definitely an example of how making your own outfits isn't always a straight path from idea to reality! When I found out the venue was art deco I planned to go all in, see pic 8 for my Pinterest inspo board. The main concept I was obsessed with was a cape and sparkly fabric. I then found the sparkly starry fabric and was sold immediately! (I then later got into the acotar books and it felt destined 😂) I got the good fabric anxiety and spent so long trying to plan the perfect pattern to make that I had to just start. I first tried out the vintage pattern in pic 7. I toiled the slip dress and actually got it to fit pretty well but I didn't think the overlay fabric would work with that pattern. I then went back to the idea of it being gathered as a skirt. Initially I used the same slip dress pattern but just chopped it at the waist but I wasn't happy enough with the fit to continue. I then tried out drafting and started making the BHL Lucy dress but with the delicate satin viscose fabric I didn't want there to be a seam across the bust. I was now in desperate need to get started on the real thing! I knew it was time to pull out a pattern I had made before so I could make V4 the final version! So out came BHL Flora. I made this earlier in the year but wasn't 100% happy with the bust fit. I did a SBA and toiled which sorted the fit issue right out 🥳 I had planned on the sparkly fabric being an overlay in the waist seam as a second skirt however I got my layers mixed up and attached the lining first. It looked so nice that I didn't have it in me to unpick it. I made the overlay into a separate skirt so I could have 2 outfits for the price of 1 but when I tried it together (pic 6) it just felt not as elegant as I felt in the dress on its own. So I made the difficult decision that sometimes less is more and left the sparkly fabric at home. My constellation themed jewelry still felt like it went beautifully with it! I then made a matching bag and I was finally ready for an amazing evening of dancing and celebrating creativity ✨ Well done if you made it this far 😅 outfit details will have to go in comments thanks to this epic!

🌟Starburst Dress 🌟 The #StarburstDress by @Gertie18 was a special release for Patreon members when it first launched. I’d seen a number of amazing versions from its first release and was so excited to receive the pattern. I loved Gertie’s pink polka dot version and decided to replicate it in blue. There are so many pattern pieces that you need to keep track of when making the skirt. I used one of my fixion pens to mark each piece. It’s definitely worth the effort once made up. I paired the skirt with the wide strap #BarbaraBodice (my favourite bodice!) The skirt came together a lot quicker than I expected. I did use the the sew along video which really helped to see what the pieces and sewing should look like. I let the skirt hang overnight before hemming. This make also has a matching bow bag which works perfectly along with a ruffle headband. TWO very special and co-ordinating new makes for a very special friend’s wedding today at the beautiful @stmartininthefields at Trafalgar Square The dress is of course a @fabricgodmother Peony Dress with the same fit adjustments as my previous version, with a matching @sewoveritlondon Bow Bag Both were made in some very beautiful and expensive viscose bought on holiday in Madeira last year. I lined the bag with some leaf-print cotton and finished both makes with labels from @little.rosy.cheeks My matching outfit got a lot of admiration from other guests! This is my third peony and I see more in my future! For the second outfit I needed for my friend’s wedding, the dress code was “Ethnic glam (saris/lenghas) or western gowns”. I went for a mishmash. I used the jaquard fabric to make another Fabric Godmother Peony dress but this time I added a lengthened gathered lower tier (to make it maxi length). I thought this fabric worked really well for an Indian outfit! I’m wearing the dress with a tulle petticoat - it gives the skirt structure I wanted. The petticoat has a lot of volume which I didn’t account for when I added the gathered tier. Once worn with the petticoat, it was 4 inches shorter than the look I was going for. Thankfully I had enough/spare fabric to fix the issue. For the duputta (scarf), I used some fine net/tulle and added a trim around the 4 edges. As the fabric for the dress is quite busy, I wanted to keep the duputta quite simple. I also made a matching SOI Bow bag. I used black cotton lawn for the lining and I only interfaced the lining pieces. Like with my last Bow bag, I attached loops to add the chain strap. As a SOI pattern insider, I was given the Bow Bag pattern when it was released. Back in May I had the pleasure of attending @welshfrocktailscymru . It was my first ever frocktails and I really wanted to make something special. Inspired by tester makes (@rebekah.does.stuff and @froukjehenstra amongst others in the @curvy_coven_uk), I decided on #thepoppydress by @cinnamondaisystudio I used some gorgeous fushia silk linen from @lastyarn . As lots of people have already said, this is really easy to fit and the instructions are fantastic. In my toile I found threading the elastic in the back channels tricky with my hand tremor. For the actual dress, I just sewed the back without the zip as I could get it over my head okay. The only other modification I made was to increase the upper bust piece by 3 cm and to bring in the sleeve a little to make sure that my @lovebravissimo #millieluxe bra was covered. I know lots of people have worn this dress without a bra, but for frocktails I thought I’d better keep the girls contained. 😆 Size K (GHI) graded to M at waist. I’d love to share lots of pictures from #welshfrocktailscymru25 but I met so many lovely people and had such a good time that I forgot to take many whilst there! I promise I was there and I do have a picture with the lovely @shelburyuk and her amazing @roberts.wood bag that I really want to make. I had planned to make the #soibowbag but managed to put the zip in the bottom of the bag and so didn’t get a chance to finish it in time. Finally, here’s my finished outfit for my 60th birthday last weekend!! It’s by far the most complex outfit I’ve ever made, 22 pattern pieces in all (plus lining pieces!). I allowed myself two weeks to put it together and all in all, it took about 10 days. I took my time, which is most unlike me! I first saw the fabric back in late 2023 and knew I had to have it! It’s glorious!! It’s a Stof France cotton sateen called Floride, and it’s from Minerva. I was inspired to make the suit after seeing something similar that Emma Bunton wore for her sitting on last seasons Portrait Artist Of The Year, although hers was blue. Originally, I’d planned to use a Simplicity jacket pattern with the trousers from a different Vogue pattern, but then I saw V1870 and it had everything I needed (especially a groovy flare on the trousers!). There were some challenges, namely the sleeve plackets. It’s a good job no one can see under the lining, because it’s not pretty! My matching Sew Over It Bow Bag got its first outing, and is just the right size for all the essentials - phone, debit card, face powder and lip gloss! (Pictures were mostly taken in my back garden a couple of days ago - my daughter took a load when we were in London but I’ve got my eyes closed in almost all of them 😂 Absolutely nothing to do with the copious spiced rums I’d had beforehand, of course…!). I made this clutch purse recently for a wedding - very quick, easy pattern! I edited it to add tiny loops so that I could clip on a shoulder strap when wanted. I simply made a tiny loops and sewed it into the zipper tabs before assembling the bag. Is it even your birthday if you don't make yourself a new dress for the occasion? 🥳 Celebrating my birthday in the best way with all the wine and pastries! I fell in love with this fabric from @lamazifabrics a while ago and just knew I wanted to make something in it for holidays. I immediately envisioned it as one of the BHL dresses in my pattern library but eventually settled on Flora as I'd made it before and knew I could make it in the time I had. I wanted to try make something more fitted now I have more experience of how to fit for my shape. I was really drawn to Flora with the Anna skirt (also BHL) but I don't own it so I self-drafted a panelled skirt without thinking too much about it. Overall I'm really happy with the result even though it's definitely pushed my comfort levels with how fitted a dress I'm comfortable in! But glad to have made something different and be able to wear a well fitted dress, I could absolutely never have bought something like this from the shops. I had fabric left so I thought I'd make a matching bag. It turned out to be a really nice quick sew and will definitely be making more and can remove the strap to have a mix and match collection! 🎗️Sew Yellow for Endo🎗️ 💛Hosted by Jess @sowhatifisew 💛 I’ve wanted to try the #lamour sarong skirt for such a long time, but never really found the right fabric. When I was looking through my fabric stash on @stash_hub and through the instagram hashtag I realised that this lawn fabric from @fabricgodmother (purchased at the 2023 Stitch Festival) was the perfect choice! As this is my #sewyellowforendo24 entry I decided to use a yellow Rose and Hubble cotton poplin from @sew_with_holly to compliment the main fabric. I’ve used the yellow fabric for the skirt facing and the bodice lining. The bodice is yet another #barbarabodice which is so easy and quick to make now as I’ve made it so many times! I’ve used the wide strap version again for this one. The skirt pieces were a little tricky to get my head around but with the amazing instructions and the handy video it was pretty simple in the end. I love seeing the pop of yellow on the facing and will definitely be making more sarong versions in the future. No outfit is complete without a matching accessory, so of course I’ve made some. With the scraps I had, I’ve been able to make: 💛 large ruffle headbands 🎗️ small ruffle headbands I’m gutted I can’t be at the social this evening but I will be wearing my make and joining the others in spirit! Absolutely loved wearing the Rosie Wrap dress by @theboldone_ it is a stunning dress with princess seams and a beautiful waist wrap! I will definitely be making this again. Unfortunately this beautiful viscose is from @sarahsimplelifeuk and is no longer available. I bought it last year for my brother-in-laws wedding and I’m so pleased I got it made up! Another day, another bag! It’s only been a day since my last bag but I feel like I’d forgotten everything already! I certainly feel like there’s more mistakes on this one than yesterdays, which is annoying. However, it’s done and I think it’ll pass muster for wherever we’re going next Saturday night.. I still haven’t a clue! This time, I made the bow in the same fabric as my suit will be made in, which I think contrasts nicely with the black. For the inner pocket, I chose the same fabric as the bow, this time contrasting quite well with the white! Tomorrow is a major day for sewing - I’ll be continuing with the jacket (which I started last week but had to pause as I needed to order more interfacing, which only arrived yesterday! 😫) and I shall also be trying on the trousers again in the hope that this mornings 5lb loss at @slimmingworld will go some way towards enabling me to do them up and sit down in them! Wedding Ready! ✔️ I made my first @sewing.masin Sicily Slip Dress with a matching @sewoveritlondon Bow Bag for my good friend Lucy's wedding last weekend. She looked AMAZING in her beautiful wedding dress! (Swipe right!) It was my first time cutting fabric on the true bias and I followed the instructions really carefully to get it right. It was also my first time making a zip-up bag and I loved it. I think all my dresses need matching bags now!! 🤣 I added a chain strap to make it easier for dancing! 🎁Festive handmade gifts 🎁 Tshirt: Leftover jersey, with design using my Cricut. Pattern is Elm tshirt by Poppy&Jazz/ SewOverIt. I designed the logo on Cricut based off that superhero chappy. I can't believe it's been a week since we crossed our fingers and hoped the rain would stay away for our beautiful daughter's wedding day. #memademay2025 Day 12. Sneaking this one in just under the wire because I’ve been to another wedding. Two weddings and a Frocktails in one month is not normal for me! But it’s been wonderful. 🧵 I started this dress at the last @izzosewstudio sewing sewcial using a @simplicitymccallsuk pattern I had picked up there the time before. I made a toile out of some old curtain lining to get the sizing right (I lowered the bust apex on the princess seams and graded out at the hips). 🧵 The real star of this dress is this @acufactum linen with its delicate watercolour illustrations by @sophiadrescher.illustration. The fabric was a present from my Sister in Law after I did a little sewing project for her. She owns @elmhirstfabrics and has a fabulous collection of quilting and craft fabrics. Last night we had our @sew_with_holly Christmas party and it was glorious! It was amazing to see so many #memade items in one room. For my cousin’s engagement event, I decided to create a traditional/desi outfit. I made an “umbrella cut kameez” and adorned the skirt, sleeves, and chunni (scarf) with trims. I was inspired by @sewnbykomal, who used the same fabric to make a lengha, and I replicated her concept with permission. For the kameez (top), I used the FG Peony bodice pattern (size 10 at the bust, graded to size 13 at the waist) and attached a self-drafted half-circle skirt. I found an excellent blog post for drafting full, half, and quarter circle skirts by @treasurie. I also lowered the front and back necklines, requiring me to redraft the corresponding facing pieces. Since the outer fabric is lightweight, I lined the entire outfit with cotton lawn, which added structure. Adding trims to the chunni and sleeves was straightforward, but applying trim to the curved half-circle skirt was more challenging. @bymissneha shared some helpful tips for this process. Initially, I planned to make a full circle skirt, but the cost of the trims made me reconsider, as a full circle skirt would have required about 8-9 meters of trim. To complete my outfit, in addition to the bright pink chunni, I made a matching Bow Bag and used the same trim on both. This is @papercutpatterns #aaltodress appreciation post. I felt so unbelievably honoured to channel my inner Joan Collins at the fabulous wedding of @richardmarcj & @leedavidevansuk - what a venue I made a few modifications to the pattern - removing the additional hem, and lengthening the dress by about four inches. I also took the risk of making the dress in a crepe backed satin from @minervadotcom rather than one of the recommended fabrics (though given it is still a mid weight woven, this might not have been quite the fly by the seat of your pants decision I’ve just made it out to be). The dress was so comfortable for a day of drinking and dancing - and I love the simple but clever construction of this pattern. Another me made handbag to add to my collection I used a plastic canvas handbag kit I found online for this bag. Then I bargello this diamond design on using @woolandthegang Tina tape yarn in moss green. I sewed on a satin lining and then for the edges I did a braided cross stitch. I've used a magnetic closure, and D rings so I can attach any one of my handles I have thoroughly enjoyed this years Sewing Weekender @thefoldline I haven't finished watching all the videos yet, but I've really enjoyed them all so far. I've already taken advantage of some of the discount codes in the goodie bag and have some exciting projects planned.
