A gorgeously sunny bank holiday was the perfect time to crack out my new #soikeirashorts I’d spotted this Matisse fabric on the @emporia_patterns stand at the stitch festival but wasn’t sure what id make with it until I went down to the @sewoveritlondon stand and they had a sample of the keira shorts sown up in that same fabric, so i went straight back and bought it and the pattern! I love the hidden elastic which make them very comfy to wear. It was my first time sewing a zip fly as well, the instructions were super clear and easy to follow. Close ups of Keira shorts from @sewoveritlondon . The belt loops are the cutest. There's 4 of them, one end is sewn down with a decorative button. So this is the best chance to use all those whimsical cute buttons in the stash that's unlikely to fit into any buttonhole 🤣 But me being conventional n boring, Went for a matching colour set. 🙈 Side pockets and back patch pockets provide ample storage space. My fit adjustments included a sway back ( which is my routine personal fit adjustment ) And turning up the hem 6 cm instead of the 4cm in the instructions. I made a size 10 based on hip size but my waist size is a size 12. The whole shorts is cut to a size 10 but I reduced the side seam allowance ( from 15mm to 10mm ) . It worked a dream. This is my co ord set for the #st4s25 challenge run by Suzi @sewing_in_spain and Jen @jenleggsews I used two @sewoveritlondon patterns the #soiamyshirt and #soikeirashorts . The Keira shorts have a fab little elastic inserted in both sides seams giving a bit of comfort when sitting (and eating 😀). I used a John louden cotton poplin. Today I have a double feature 😊 Meet the @SewOverItLondon #soiemilytop and #soikeirashorts which I was given the opportunity to make ahead of pattern release as a #soipatterninsiders The Keira shorts have front pleats, slanted pockets, decorative belt loops with buttons, and a turned-up hem, and partially elasticated waistband in the back for ease of fitting. The waistband closes with a hook and eye. For this pair I used a twill suiting and shortened the pattern by two inches. I will post another pair with the full pattern length. The Emily cami comes with various neck options, with or without a frill, and can be made full length or cropped. For my version I chose the scoop neck with plain detail and used a viscose challis. Ad: Here are my versions of the new Sew Over it patterns, the Emily top version 2 with a scoop neck and cropped length I made a size 12 with no mods if I had purchased a bit more of this gorgeous Liberty lawn from @beyond.thepinkdoor I would have put on the frill it was such a quick make it also has a vee neckline and a longer length available a very versatile pattern. Very thankful that I can squeeze out a few more wears of my shorts before we head into jumper season 🌞 I'd been hoarding this beautiful Liberty fabric for well over a year. A classic case of "this fabric is super expensive and what if I muck it up". But I decided to finally throw caution to the wind. What's the point of never using it? I want to wear it! And the winning pattern... the @fridaypatterncompany Patina Blouse, which is a perfect match 💕 so happy I finally got it made into something 😁 So this is your cue to cut into your expensive fabric. Am always on the look out for a good woven tank. For ease of wear and also hopefully to be able to use up those small fabric cuts I have 😅 This is the latest pattern from @sewoveritlondon , the Emily top. Worn together with the shorts pattern also just released from @sewoveritlondon , The Keira shorts. More details to come on the next post on the shorts. 💕 I made my Emily top with the V neckline and frill. Shortened the shoulders half inch. Probably should have done my usual sway back adjustment for the top. There's also the option of a round neckline . The frill is optional. Finishing is via a facing. Sew Over it Emily Top & Keira Shorts As a Pattern Insider I was excited to sew the 2 new @sewoverit patterns that are summer staples. While I love a dress sometimes basic separates are exactly what you need. I made the #soikeirashorts in @rubystarsociety Heart Flowers Canvas that I had in my stash from @hawthornesupplyco . I had a few other fabric options but was able to squeeze the pattern out of 1.5 yards and thought this would make a fun pair of retro shorts. I made the size 10 with no adjustments. These were an interesting sew, and a few spots I had to think, but an enjoyable challenge. They have some really nice details, like a high waist, buttons on the belt loop tabs, elastic on the side backs, pleats and 4 pockets. When I first tried them on I thought I needed to shorten them, I prefer a shorter short but I am embracing this length and I think its growing on me. Since I used a print for the shorts I knew I wanted to make the #soiemilytop in a solid. Surprisingly I found it difficult to figure out a color that worked with these shorts. I had a few solid viscoses but none of them worked and then I found this plain medium 3.5 linen from @fabricsstorecom in my stash. I was worried it would be too stiff for the ruffle but It worked. I made a size 10 in the cropped version 1 with a high back and ruffle. Sometimes I fear cropped but have to remember there is difference between a crop top and top that is cropped. The length works perfectly with the high waist of the shorts, however it did seem tiny when I was working on it. Overall this was a straight forward make but some fiddly spots. The V neck with ruffle was a lot at once but worth the effort. I did worry about ripping the fabric when turning the facings out after sewing the sides since it was a tight space, but all was good. This is the summer outfit I never knew I needed. 2 basic items with elements I don't typically lean towards but really like! The new #soikeirashorts by @sewoveritlondon are so good! It's hot outside, my girls are at home, the house is BUSY! And yet I managed to get this done today, just in time for the pattern's release! Only thing left is to add a hook to the belt 😅 This is size UK14 graded to 16 on the hips. The fabric is stretch denim! The vest is thrifted 🤩 Things I loved about making this shorts: - the construction of the fly zipper - the little buttons on the belt loops. Such an endearing detail. Things that were tiresome: - the belt loops 😅 - the belt! It's always such a boring stage when making pants, and yet tricky! Overall 100% recommend! Never had a pair of shorts fit me so well :)

Its been a while since I’ve actually sewn or posted any makes due to a lot of things happening within the family however, I thought I’d share my shorts I made for my holiday a month ago. 🏖️I bought one of the @sewoveritlondon #soikeirashorts kits in the khaki denim as I just fell in love with the design and fabric as soon as they were launched. . I finished them just before packing the cases so I was very excited to wear them away. I extended the length of the legs due to my long limbs and decided to do a normal double turn hem on the bottom. The kit was amazing as it had all the notions inside and I didn’t have to worry about not having something I needed. @sewoveritlondon released their new pattern at the perfect time for my holidays! Meet the Keira shorts. These are fitted shorts with a fly zip, slanted pockets, back pockets and turn ups! There are lovely pleats at the front and darts in the back for fitting along with a part elastic waist which makes them super comfortable. I made mine using a viscose linen blend which is going to be perfect for the Florida heat. These are available in sizes 6-30 which is a waist of 24-50” and hips 34-60”. I didn’t make any alterations other than to omit the belt loops as I don’t ever wear belts. I’ve already got some chambray lined up for my next pair! About a month ago, my best friend and I went to the 90's Baby music festival 😎 it was soooooo good! Gareth Gates, Liberty X, Five, AND B*Witched! Reliving our childhood, dancing and singing along like we used to 😁 I finished my @sewoveritlondon Keira shorts just in time to wear and they were the perfect garment, teamed with a matching denim bum bag from the City Set (also Sew Over It) for the full 90's vibes ✌🏻 I love the cut of these shorts, a vintage nod but feels very modern. The turn-ups are my favourite feature 😍 Fabric is 8oz washed cotton denim from @raystitch which was the perfect weight and sewed up like a dream.
