Norah on holiday pics to share! Made a straight size 10 based this time. I'm usually between sizes 10 n 12 but I figured I should be able to get away with a straight 10 with the ease of a wrap dress. Fit adjustments include - 1cm shortening of the bodice between bust n shoulders - 1 cm shortening of the waist band n ties. - 1 cm sway back. I'm 5 ft 4 or 164cm thereabouts. Sharing my version of the Norah dress, Sew Over It’s newest pattern. As a Sew Over it Pattern Insider, I was gifted this pattern ahead of its general release. I made in a viscose linen from Rainbow Fabrics. I made the dress in a size 10 at the bust and graded to a size 12 at the waist. I deviated from the pattern in that I “maxi’d” the dress by adding 6 inches to the length of the skirt pattern pieces and I omitted the pockets. In hindsight I should have inserted inseam pockets. If this fabric doesn't shout spring then I'm not sure what does! It's a linen viscose blend called "Eden" with a really delicate floral design - those garden flowers are sure to lift the mood on a sunny day. It would be suitable for all sorts of garment making and I think make the prettiest of dresses. The #OpheliaDress by @tessutifabrics would be a really great choice for summer (as long as you enjoy making buttonholes!). Or, for a pattern with a little more coverage - and no buttonholes, if you're in that camp - the @sewoverit #soinorahdress would be a lovely option. Plus it has pockets which is a huge plus in my book. Here are a few personal opinions on the new #soinorahdress by @sewoveritlondon . - love the relaxed and comfortable fit, but I think it still looks like I made an effort. The wide ties give the dress a nice silhouette. - totally "safe" wrap, as you can see in my reel (last post) - suitable for prints, but still interesting in a plain. I like it with a bit of drape. Check out the versions by the pattern insiders; I love how different they all are. - easy to sew. The pattern pieces are large so you're dealing with a lot of fabric at the end, but it's not difficult. No zips or buttonholes. - I made a size 10 with no fitting alterations. This is a very easy pattern to fit. I was short of fabric (what's new?), so I shortened the ties by 10cm, and the hem by 14cm. 👏The advantage of being short. - Pockets! Wonderful big patch pockets. You can swipe to see how I feel about these. I pieced the pockets as I had run out of fabric. Minimum waste success - Picture 4.. . Hi AD: pattern insider here with my version of the #sewoveritlondon Norah wrap dress I cut mine in a size 12 graded to a 14 at the waist I’m 5’4 with a 32 waist. I made no further modifications I love how it turned out I used a beautiful soft viscose linen from Lamazi fabrics which was great to work with I really like the grown on sleeves and soft gathers at the back and front waistline I was worried about stretching the neckline but I stay stitched as recommended and it sits beautifully with no gaping. [#Ad] I’ve been wanting to add to my work wardrobe for a while, and I think the new @sewoveritlondon Norah dress fits the bill nicely. . I’m usually cautious about wrap dresses (gaping, accidentally flashing etc.) but this feels so nice and secure. Plus I usually have to do a neck adjustment to stop gaping and I didn’t on this one! The bodice could do with a little more fitting next time, it’s got some gaping under the arms and a little big for me on the back, but overall she’s a good’un!! . I wanted a plain colour for work, but obviously I was going to go for something bright, and I bought this crepe from a shop over in Walthamstow especially for this make. . I actually think that Norah could be dressed up or down, and would look super classy in a satin back crepe for a formal occasion too. . I made this up in my usual size 14 with no adjustments other than to swap the patch pockets for inseam ones (I used the Charlotte dress pockets and instructions for a neat finish) . Sew Over It Norah As a @sewoveritlondon Pattern Insider I received the #soinorahdress early. When I first saw this pattern I loved the gathers and decided I wanted to make one. When I began planning I realized this was going to a fabric hungry pattern and most of the dress fabrics in my stash are 3 meters. On my way to Joann Fabrics I stopped in Target for some other things and was drawn to this print in a sheet set. I purchased this #opalhouse queen sheet set for $40 and it is 100% cotton. I made a size 10 with no adjustments. I used most of the fitted sheet and still have the top sheet and pillowcases left for other projects. I really enjoyed sewing this dress, there are a few very long pattern pieces which can get awkward when cutting and working with. But it also came together really nicely. This was a dream to wear. The neck laid perfectly, the waist cinched in so nicely and stayed tied. The wrap stayed closed and the dropped sleeves let the dress breath.
