My collection of #soiportiadress 2 top versions and one dress. The 1st one i made in a marbled jersey as a wearable toile. I ended up shortening the bust length for my second attempt. The second one is a plain black bamboo jersey one side and rainbow leopard print the other. The 3rd portia is using scraps of modal jersey and the rest of the rainbow leopard print. All fabrics from @1stforfabrics and pattern from @sewoveritlondon Labels from @sewanonymousofficial

I wore this dress to the Stitch Festival just over a week ago, it was so comfortable and didn’t crease on the train journey 😆 I’m not the biggest fan of sewing knits but this came together very easily and I love the shape so much I’d definitely make again ❤️ I lengthened the skirt and added slits to the sides, also didn’t add elastic to the end of the sleeves. Here is the toile for my #soiportiadress I often need to shorten bodices but on the upper part of my torso, between my bust and shoulders rather than where most patterns have a lengthen /shorten line. I usually find straps are too long etc so with this being a wedding guest dress (in which I need to be able to breastfeed) I wanted to make sure the twist on this dress would fall in the right place for me. As I suspected it would be indecently low made as per the pattern 😂 I have adjusted the pattern and raised the twist by an inch and half, and I have also drafted a modesty panel for when I need to feed. I'm not afraid of whipping a boob out when my baby needs a feed, however I felt at a wedding it might be best to be a little more discreet so this panel will be hidden beneath the twist and cover my upper bust but I can raise it to feed. It's all cut out ready to sew, I'm hoping to get a bit of time tonight and tomorrow 🤞 Also I love this as a top, although I cut it a little short for my liking so I'm going to add a hem band on the bottom and on both sleeves to finish it and it will be a great top to layer over a cami! I’ve always wanted to learn to sew my own clothes and I was lucky enough to get a sewing machine for Christmas. I spent many hours watching YouTube vlogs on sewing and picked up lots of tips on using pdf patterns and sewing garments. So today will be mostly about making Christmas portia dresses! I will cut both of them out this morning. I am hoping that the maraflex arrives before Thursday so I don't have to to zigzag stitch or twin needle the hems. I have decided on a full length sleeve which I am going to shir at the cuff. So proud of this make, my #soiportiadress for our lovely friends wedding. Teal jersey from The Linen Cupboard in Horsham and pattern by @sewoveritlondon I added a modesty panel (swipe to last photo) to make it more discreet for breastfeeding my baby boy, made a 1.5inch petite bodice adjustment and cut out a size 20 grading to 22 at the hip (measurements put me in an 18) as I wanted it to be a looser fit and especially over my lower half. #sewing #imakemyownclothes #soiportiadress #breastfeedingfashion #weddingguestdress

You’ll find the link to my blog in my bio. This Portia dress was a lot of fun to make and I love the twisted bodice and shape of the sleeves. It was a pretty quick sew. It’s made in a cotton jersey. This one is a size 14, but it’s available up to a UK30 at @sewoveritlondon. I made no changes to this version, which is the longer version of the two options.

☃️🎄 Merry Christmas 🎄☃️ Merry Christmas to all who celebrate! We started the day with a lovely walk around the Peak District followed by a warming drink. Now we are off for a Christmas meal at the in-laws. I wanted to make a new Christmas velvet dress this year and decided to make the lovely @SewOverItLondon Portia Dress in this gorgeous green velvet from @abakhan_manchester I've fallen in love with this pattern and will certainly be adding some jersey versions into my wardrobe! The dress came together really quickly and the twist wasn't that difficult to work with. I decided on the shorter version as I knew it would be a little more flattering on me as I won't be in heels all day. I love how the dress turned out 😍 I hope to get some better lit photos of some of my autumn / winter makes so I can do the fabric and twist more justice. The dress is really flattering whilst also be comfortable to wear, which is perfect for today. The knotted front and deep v neck adds a lovely detail and distracts from areas that I am a little self conscious about. @sewn_on_the_tyne I took the plunge and finished my Portia dress last night. Small issue with the facing rolling out but don't want stitching on neckline so going to use some fixing tape and see if that resolves it.

As usual I didn't get anywhere near completing everything on my to do list done. I did make a start though. I did trace and cut out 4 patterns. I did cut the fabric for 2 portia dresses and 2 matching bow bags. I did make a really good start on 1 of the dresses. It needs finishing off on Monday, but I am pleased with it so far. I couldn't lengthen the sleeves and shir on this one as there wasn't enough fabric. I haven't risked ironing it at all. 😂 I did use my bias binding from @thespeckyseamstress and a label from @paigejoannaa which is so cute and will make it uniquely mine. It's the first time I have put a label in my #memade clothes. Good morning!! I have spent the last 2 days of my annual leave sorting out a year's mileage for my tax return! I know, I know, I should do it daily, weekly or even monthly! 🙄😂 Anyway I finally have a sew day! Or a tracing and cutting day at least! Have I washed my fabric???! Dagnammit! I think I have washed the fabric from @flamingofabricsuk, but not the one from @newcrafthouse so I need to get that washed. So at least one #portiadress will be cut out today. My Christmas Day dress this year was @sewoveritlondon Portia dress. Such a simple but effective make! The fabric was a green jersey from @1stforfabrics I made a size 18 but maybe should have graded to a 20 over my waist and hips! I took 3 inches out the neck line following instructions in the pattern and am glad I did! The knot sits perfectly! The fabric and pattern work perfectly together and it’s such a simple make. The knot is really easy to do! This evening was @virtualsewingroom night… I had a hissy fit as I have had two hideous days at work, I don’t feel well so can’t concentrate and after throwing my toys (patterns) out of the pram decided to practice my Xmas day dress , the @sewoveritlondon #portiadress , once more in this @poundfabrics knit fabric , after cutting realised this pattern probably won’t work with stripes but hey ho may as well carry on… omg how pleased am I with the results! Sewing time is precious right now so I was very happy to make this dress in under 90 minutes, without rushing. This is a lovely, well-drafted pattern, the #soiportiadress @sewoveritlondon . It looks complicated, but really it isn't. The fabric was given to me by @minervadotcom in return for a post on www.minerva.com. It's a Minerva Core Range viscose jersey in colour Hyacinth. The fabric is just the right weight for the nice twist front and a doddle to sew. More details on the Minerva site. . . New kid Watson is working on his sewing post poses, as Dolly is rather camera averse. He shows promise. The necklace was made for me by my grandma when I was a student, many moons ago. . .
