This is my fifth @sewoveritlondon Natalia dress! I think it's my favourite so far - and it tried very hard to defeat me. It was all going just fine until I accidentally sewed the second waist casing just a bit too narrow. The elastic still fit, but my bodkin got stuck at the side seam and it took almost ten minutes to wiggle it out of there again. So I tried my thinnest pressing bar instead. Nope. Then I tried my smallest casing slide. Nope. Finally I resorted to a safety pin, and of course it opened inside the casing and got stuck four times before I got it through. Pretty sure I set a new record for most f-bombs uttered in a single pattern step. It was worth the hassle, at any rate. Like previous incarnations, I sewed a 16 blended to a 20 at the waist/hip with no fit adjustments save for a small tuck at the centre front bodice. I usually make a little grosgrain ribbon bow for the centre of the tuck, but this time I figured I'd sew one from the scraps. Fabric is a blend of linen and recycled rayon that I like a lot - it's not buttery soft but it has lovely drape and just enough weight to make it ideal for dresses.

Pattern insider sharing my Natalia dress @sewoveritlondon Natalia has 3 zkirt lengths n 2 strap options. This is my Natalia in size 10. Tie back strap option. I did my usual fit adjustments of - sway back of 1cm center back of back waistband -sway back 1cm center back of back skirt - shortened the bodice 1cm I'm 5 ft 4 I sewed up the midi length but found it too long on my height but was worried that the mini would be too short. So i removed 9 cm to get it about knee length. I also lined the skirt. Fabric is liberty tana lawn bought from @libertyfabrics @libertylondon during my last trip to London. There’s a new sundress pattern from @sewoveritlondon , the Natalia dress. It has three skirt length options, and to strap options. It’s an easy sew because the shaping is accomplished by an elastic waist which makes fit a breeze! I made the bow back option which looks so much harder than it is! I used an Indian cotton from @boltfabricpdx and it’s the perfect weight for this summery dress! Perfect weather for my new @sewoveritlondon Natalia dress. Made in a cotton lawn that came as part of a kit. The tie back and elastic makes it really easy to fit. The bow dress 🎀 Like many others I fell head over heels for the fabric collaboration between @heysewsister.co.uk and @pigeonwishes.shops and desperately waited until I was lucky enough to grab some in a later drop of it. I knew I wanted to make something which incorporated bows into the garment but I didn't want a bow front dress. Enter one of the new @sewoveritlondon summer dress patterns, Natalia! I missed making this up when it was first released but I realised it would be perfect for this fabric with it's bow tied back (also easily adjustable to fit, perfect!). I followed the lessons on the stitch school to assist in doing a SBA and then I was off! The pattern calls for 6mm elastic and mines was not a very sturdy elastic so I ended up using quite a lot less than the lengths listed. Next time I will move the straps in by half an inch or so but otherwise the fit is so good, and all topped off with a beautifully themed label! A really lovely summer dress that I'd definitely make another of. ~ Pattern Tester Post ~ I’m sure most of you have seen the beautiful #willowdress from @cinnamondaisystudio and now Emma has done it again with the amazing #fearneboxtop . I was lucky to be part of the tester team and had the best time trying the different version of this pattern. It is sooooo versatile and can be made with both vowens and knit fabrics. Here I made one in a heavy knit fabric, with long sleeves, cuffs, waistband and buttons. And let me tell you - it is one of my staple pieces right now! It is the perfect lenght to use over a dress! I’m so in love with this one and really want to make some more. My studio's still not a reasonable temperature - this old home likes to hold onto heat - but if outside temps continue to fall I should be able to sew again soon. I've done a bit of knitting and cross-stitch while parked on the sofa watching Doctor Who, but the studio is my happy place and I miss it. Until then, I have a couple of dresses I haven't yet shared. This lime green cotton gingham delight is my second version of the new Natalia by @sewoveritlondon and I love it just as much as the first. Like last time I sewed a 16 blended to a 20 at the waist/hip and shortened the straps by 10 cm. Rather than alter the bodice to remove the extra width I just made a little inverted pleat again because it's cute. I had ordered the fabric online and was a little disappointed at how stiff it was before washing, but it softened up far more than I expected. It's just slightly less than opaque, but that's what rayon-spandex slip shorts are for. Living beside the ocean means there's almost always a breeze, so it helps to have something to wear under dresses when it's too warm for tights. I have loved this specific dress I found on Pinterest for several years so I made my own version! I used the @sewoveritlondon Natalia Dress pattern with edits. I added an extra tier of ruffles at the bottom of the Mini length to give me this floaty maxi dress in @Fabworks cotton poplin (I think the colour was called Vanilla Creme) and it’s just the most floaty swooshy dress I think I’ve ever made. #soinataliadress #sewoverit #sewing #fabworksmillshop

I've been enjoying the new @sewoveritlondon Natalia dress, which has turned out to be a great summer sew. I picked up one of the kits and so this red and white gingham is from them as well and pretty much exactly the same as one of their samples! I love the bow tie feature, I think it's really cute and I like the fact that it makes the strap length adjustable! This is great for me as straps are always too long! The dress itself is generally a really comfy and breezy fit. However, like several SOI patterns, I have found the straps to be a little too wide set at the front and providing too much room at the bust. I had to shorten the elastic at the top by a significant amount and it's still a bit too inclined to droop at the back, even with the ties tied up tight. I either need to size down or play around with some adjustments. My @sewoveritlondon #soinataliadress in Costa Rica 🇨🇷 Yesterday mum and I made a very special trip to visit the place where my grandad is buried. He’s in the gardens of the AyA HQ, sort of like a Thames Water equivalent, which he helped found many years ago and they even have an auditorium named after him! It’s a little unusual but he was so proud of his work and it’s so cool to be able to go and visit him and the beautiful tree that’s growing there ❤️

Happy midsummer! Celebrating this swedish holiday with a flower crown, maypole and my new Natalia Dress from @sewoveritlondon . This was the perfect dress for the occasion. Sew Over It have released their newest pattern today the lovely summery Natalia Dress and we've finally got some summer dress weather to match! The Natalia Dress is a strappy summer dress with a double elasticated waist and back. I am always a bit worried about sewing up new patterns, but I found this one easy to fit for me as the bodice has no darts or fitting features other than an elasticated channel across the back bodice and two small elasticated channels at the waist. I made a midi version 1 dress without the tie back and omitted the pockets. I used a beautiful floral viscose crepe from @minervadotcom which has a beautiful drape and is so soft to wear. I made the dress over a weekend and found it came together quickly even with the bodice being lined. The only adjustments I may make next time is to move the elasticated channels up by a few cms so the channels sit more on my elasticated waist. I am also tempted to shorten the hem and add a ruffle bottom! I've paired the dress with my Sorentto Jacket and a wrap around cardie and really like how it looks! I've seen lots of beautiful versions from the other pattern insiders! Lots of beautiful, bright and bold summer colours and prints! Finally back in my studio this weekend, and the first thing I sewed was a @sewoveritlondon Natalia sundress - one of my absolute favourites. A sundress in Atlantic Canada in March? Sure, why not, although if I plan to wear it anytime soon (which I do) I'll need a long-sleeved tee under it, a cardigan over it, and my wool tights. Haven't quite sorted out proper photos. I don't have a good spot inside, and as far as outside - well, I might have fantastic cold tolerance, but not enough to wear a sundress when temps are still well below zero. With this gorgeous weather we've been having lately, I finally got the chance to wear my Sew Over It Natalia dress. After reading the pattern instructions, I decided to make a toile of just the bodice, so that I could hopefully, get the straps in the right position. My fabric is a crinkle gingham from Hobbycraft, which was ideal for this dress. This is only the second time I've worked with gingham, as I've always been put off by the pattern matching. I know it's not quite perfect, but its as good as I could get it. Yay, I can sew again! My studio's still warmer than I'd prefer, but it's manageable with a couple of fans and a glass of iced tea. It's supposed to be cool and rainy over the long weekend, and that sounds like perfect sewing weather to me. So my latest sundress is yet another @sewoveritlondon Natalia dress. I really have to love a pattern to sew it three times - in a row, no less - but it really is cute as heck and comfortable, too, especially in a lightweight stretch cotton poplin. The only change I made this time around was to the skirt - mini length rather than midi due to fabric constraints. I had just two metres, which is less than the pattern calls for, so I had to play some serious pattern Tetris to make it work.

I finished this before I went on holiday, it's a toile of the #soinataliadress using some @sewhayleyjane fabric from my stash. It's the 2nd one I've made (the 1st one looked hideous on me) but I'm still unsure if it's for me. In our drop of deadstock viscoses last week, we had this really unusual fabric and I'm slightly obsessed with it. I've called her Kaya and it has secret savannah animals on it alongside some graphic leaves and foliage. It's a really lovely cloth. Unusually the pattern runs from selvedge to selvedge, so you may want to consider how you cut out and turn your grainline 90° so the animals are facing the right way up. I'm thinking a simple maxi skirt would be fabulous in this - some rectangles gathered into a waistband for a very simple make. Or a dress like the @sewoveritlondon #soinataliadress in a longer length would be lovely layered up for winter. It's far too hot this week to spend any significant time in my sewing studio, but I have a cute sundress that I sewed a couple of weeks ago and have been waiting to share - it's the brand-new Natalia by @sewoveritlondon and it's adorable. I've had quite a few sewing wins on the grid, lately, and this sundress is primed to become a favourite. It's so comfortable - the elastic casings give a bit of room to move, the straps are wide enough to accommodate a bra, and the length is perfect. I sewed a size 16 blended to a 20 at the waist/hip with the straps shortened by four inches. No other adjustments, though after sewing I did have to make a tiny tuck in the front bodice to draw the straps in just a bit - my own fault for not checking the bodice width before sewing. I kinda love it, though, and I was lucky enough to have matching ribbon for a tiny bow. Fabric is a lightweight cotton I've had in the stash for at least three years - I'm finally starting to sew up all the precious things I've been holding onto. So this seemed to come together at the speed of light - the bodice is lined, so no fussing with or tacking down facings. The skirt has two pieces, one each for back and front, so if you're using directional fabric (or even if you're not) you can pin all the pieces at once. Did I mention it's adorable? Because it is.
