My version of the @sewoveritlondon Lorna Pinafore made in a sturdy denim. The Lorna pinafore come with two different shapes of the bodice and two different shapes for the pockets. I loved the notched option for the bodice and the angled pockets. The fabric is actually a remnant from another Sew Over It project, the #soisorrentojacket from a few years ago. I made my usual size 12 and the only change was to shape the bust darts a little bit and also the center back/zipper is sewn with 0,5cm extra seam allowance. Also, the pinafore is lined, very pretty inside ( also very easy to follow instructions to get a nice clean finish) I used again my @babylock_de #babylockprimo #babylockapplaud for a bit of top stitching interest and also the hem/backsplit is sewn with one needle in the coverstitch machine. I really love this @sewoveritlondon Lorna pinafore I made version 1 this time with a fabulous Lady McElroy Tollerton denim from my @beyond.thepinkdoor subscription box I was so happy when I opened my box and saw the Denim! 💗💗 I have had a go at some top stitching which I was really pleased with I used sew all thread on a triple stitch so it would show up better. I made a straight 12 the only mod I made was to take 1 inch off the hem. The neckline of the @sewoveritlondon new Lorna Pinafore caught my eye with its notched bodice/neckline. There are two neckline styles included with this pattern; the other variation is a classic shape with a curved neckline. I had 1 yard of this Cone Mills Denim which was very stiff to begin with. I did some online research of how to soften stiff denim. I soaked this yardage 3x in hot water with white vinegar for 5 hours each time. The result is a less stiff fabric but I still consider it stiff. I’m hoping this denim wears in with time. I made a cutting error and didn’t place the skirt front on the fold. I had to put a seam down center front and decided to move the back slit to the front to make the front seam look more intentional. By the time I realized I needed a front seam, my bodice was complete so I ended up with the front bodice darts and front skirt darts not lining up (see the close ups) but had I thought it through I would have moved the front skirt darts outwards by 3/8” to account for the seam allowance I took at center front. After posting the pics yesterday of My @sewoveritlondon 'Lorna' pinafore I realised looking at them the fit wasn't quite right and couldn't work it out as I made a toile and did a fba and it fitted perfectly but then I remembered i only mad the bodice and because I had no skirt to attach it too I tacked the cross over together which was the cause of the problem so today I did a simple minor adjustment just slip stitching the the wrap in place to the V which has worked and I am really pleased as the fit is much better. The fabric came from @roysmaterialworld on my recent trip to Leicester to the dressmakers ball.  Pictured here with my @gertie18 Charm Hepburn top I made a while ago with Bishop sleeve. It is meant to be made in a stretch but it worked fine with this @minervadotcom exclusive viscose challis and the design ‘Rose Reverie goes so well with this teal baby cord. Here's the latest pattern from Sew Over It! A pinafore! Something I never thought I'd want to wear but this version (actually both versions included in the pattern) are grown up and classy and grabbed my attention. Made in a soft, chunky purple-blue corduroy, lined in shocking pink. Perfect for layering over shirts, blouses or turtle neck sweaters ;) I love being a pattern insider for Sew Over It, getting to try new styles in my wardrobe. Straight up size 14, though for me I needed to take in the bodice sides just a smigeon to fit better. I graded between 2 sizes. I chose the size 16 as it correlated with my bust, I then graded to a 18 for the skirt. ALTERATIONS: I normally have to do a FBA for any woven dress I make, however as this was a pinafore dress I decided to just make it as it was. I am really pleased how it turned out. I also made this version without the invisible zip at the back - I realised I could pull it down (with a squeeze) so decided to just omit it altogether - I will do this for any other version in the future too. I like a fitted waist so had a trial and error with how much i could sew the back shut and still manage to get it over my head. FABRIC: Was a upholstery fabric with cotton and possible linen content from @destash4palestine @luvisenlager I bought just less than 2m for £10!! and had roughly 50cm left. Im not normally a fan of upholstery type fabric but i loved the print and as it was a pinafore and not next to my skin, it also isn’t too structured. Bonus is that it doesn’t crease at all! I lined with a pink polka dot silky poly- the lining means the dress doesn’t ride up when i’m wearing it with tights CHANGES FOR NEXT TIME: None. The pattern was gifted to me for free for being a pattern insider. Honest Opinion: I really like this pinafore dress- I have made a few pinafore dresses and this is my current favourite. I love the modern and unique neckline and the pockets are just the perfect size. It’s a fairly easy sew that takes minimal fabric. Hi hi! Pattern insider sharing Lorna pinafore, The latest pattern release from @sewoveritlondon 💕 Lorna is drafted for medium weight woven fabrics and i used my japanese cotton- linen soft canvas from @nekonekofabric. It's a border print; essentially a border of ink that stretches across to the other selvedge of beige. I cut the pattern pieces cross grain to showcase the border print, in a size 10 with - bodice shortened 1 cm - sway back 1 cm - shortened skirt 2 inches but left it unhemmed. So the skirt hem is the selvedge which has frayed ends, that i wanted to keep. I'm 5 ft 4. Lorna pinafore offers the option of the classic bodice or the notched bodice. It's fully lined and closure is with an invisible back zip. Ad: Here is my version of the newly released @sewoveritlondon Lorna pinafore I made version 2 in a lovely green chunky cord from my stash in a straight size 12 with no modifications, I find the detail shaping on the front and the crossover straps on the back very attractive. The pinafore is lined which makes it great to slip on and off I used a green Bemburg lining also from my stash my zip was slightly longer than was suggested but I just went with it. The @sewoveritlondon Lorna Pinafore 🧵🪡👗 *Fabric used:*Printed denim from my stash purchased from Super Cheap Fabrics AU @supercheapfabrics *Size made:* Straight size 10 ~~~ One of the things I love about Sew Over It patterns is how adaptable they are for different seasons. This pattern is no exception, and I can already imagine wearing it all year round. The printed denim I chose has been waiting for the perfect project, and this garment was definitely the right match. I made a straight size 10, which is my usual size with Sew Over It patterns (except for the Adelle and Carly, where I upsized to a 12). I didn’t make any alterations, and the fit is exactly how I like it—comfortable and not too fitted. I’m not a fan of super fitted garments, so this relaxed fit works perfectly for me. As always, it was a pleasure sewing this up! Sew Over It has been such a great source of learning for me in 2024, and I’ve picked up so many new techniques along the way. I love a pinafore dress so I was thrilled when @sewoveritlondon released their Lorna dress this week. I love the unique neckline on it and fitted shape. It was a great sew with good instructions. It also has pockets and is lined so it’s as pretty on the inside as it is outside. I will say it’s not the easiest pattern to alter to fit. Mine is slightly too big at the top under the armpits. It seemed ok when I was trying it on and now it will be a pain to go back and change now it’s all assembled. But it’s still wearable. Fabric is @libertyfabrics lantana which is a cotton/wool mix and perfect for this. The lining is also Liberty tana lawn from my stash. I’m pretty pleased with the pattern matching to the front. It took me ages to cut out but worth the effort. I did try for the back but that clearly didn’t work, not sure why! Fabric was from @sewboxuk and the print is Ianthe. The buttons were from my local market - they fit with the art deco print. I can’t wait to make more! Got my eye on a Liberty needlecord for the next one. Pics of me in it for a change too as it’s hard to get a decent idea from the mannequin. #soilornapinafore

I went to Stitch Festival with my daughter back in March and saw a sample made up on the @sewoveritlondon stall. It was paired with the Lorna Pinafore. The pattern is the Amy Shirt. Neither pattern is something I would normally go for but when I saw them both together I had to have them. I also pinched the idea of fabrics that had been used and have so far made the shirt. Fabric is from @fabricgodmother and is the Eve snake viscose twill. An absolute dream to sew with. The shirt was so easy to make and I went for the scalloped collar. All I need to do is add the buttons and make the pinafore and I’m good to go. It’s new pattern day! ☺️ When I saw the new Lorna pattern I knew this was one for me! I just liked the new variation on a neckline for a pinafore dress! The fabric is a denim I’ve had in my stash for years! The lining was a scrap from a dress and a top I made a few years ago. I made a straight size 14 as I like to wear my dresses over jumpers so went slightly larger. The only adjustment I made was to shorten the pinafore so it was above my knees 🙂 This dress is so comfortable - I wore it all day in London while visiting the knitting and stitching show and not one complaint about my outfit (the jumper is a Billie jumper in fabric from @gingerlilybugs both the dress and jumper had many compliments on the day too!
