This is my second of the three final projects of 2024! It’s the @sewoveritlondon #soihettiedress. This was my first attempt and it’s ended up as a wearable toile. I wore it with some excellent @snagtights #snagbonechina #snagletitsnow tights with sparkly snowflakes but didn’t get a proper picture. The final picture is the tights but with my #peeasydoesitskirt. Overall I’m really pleased with it and it came together very easily. I just made the size for my bust but the shoulders are a bit too broad. I don’t have any parties coming up in the near future but when I make this again (which I’m sure I will), I’ll either size down with a FBA or I’ll do a narrow shoulder adjustment. This is my first #sewoveritlondon woven pattern although I’ve got quite a few more planned for 2025! This brought #Whole30FabricChallenge2024 running total to 18.9m. I really wanted a plain red dress for the festive period and set out to sew it before leaving yesterday for our road trip to the North Coast. I knew it was unlikely to be finished to wear out... 💃👗SOI Hettie 💃👗 When I was making my dress for Galway Frocktails (which I still have to post), I looked for other navy fabric in my stash, so as to get the best out of my overlocker threads before a colour change. I’m a big @sewoveritlondon fan, so have most of their patterns, and fortunately had the #soihettiedress dress printed out in A0. I had bought this Wild Botanics Chambray from @ladymcelroyfabrics as part of a mystery box a couple of years ago. It is a linen chambray digital floral print, which is 60% linen and 40% viscose, with weight of 196gsm. It is a trapeze style dress with a big pleat at centre front. The pattern has the ties tying at the back, but I think it looks better at the front. H E T T I E @sewoveritlondon Yes....it's MORE leopard print! 🤣🙈 I bought this 2m remnant of leopard viscose from @rainbowfabrickilburn and wasn't sure what to make, but the drape is perfect for this pattern. It's lightweight, so perfect for Spring/Summer and I even managed to take these photos OUTSIDE in the actual sunshine! 🌞 It has a dart in the front, which adds volume to the skirt and it has ties at the back. It’s unusual for me to make two versions of the same pattern in such quick succession, but I did say that the @sewoveritlondon Hettie was my your favourite party dress so I wanted to make a party version!! I made this version in a black & gold polka dot velvet from @minervadotcom, again in a straight size 14 but this time I raised the neckline a little bit and used a bias tape as binding, primarily so I didn’t have to redraft the facings, but also so it wasn’t too bulky. I lengthened the skirt slightly again as well. I’m looking forward to giving this a spin at my work party this afternoon 💃 This pattern was previously given to me as a Pattern Insider. Yesterday I had a lovely day at The Stitch festival with @anneb21. She kindly came with me which made it possible. We had a good look about and did my to do list first, visiting Sew over it and Chloe to pick up my preorder of the #soihettiedresspattern and a Heather dress kit. I bought new grandma labels from the lovely Victoria @littlerosiecheeks. I was fairly restrained throughout but bought 3 separate metres of fabric as gifts for my little granddaughter then spied this lovely viscose linen remnant on @bornellofabrics for a top from the lovely Tanya wearing her Reetashirt dress, one of my favourite patterns. I went back 2 or 3 times to get the 2 metres of stripes from @lili.fabrics for some wide trousers. I will have to live in wide loose trousers this summer as have so many plans.The heron scissors were a little extra gift to myself as I’m always mislaying my gold ones!😆 It was a good day and lovely to spend time with Anne. Felt cute, might instigate Original Sin later 🐍 Who would have thought a snake print could make such a cute fabric? 😍 I paired it with the Hettie dress because I thought it would be a good pattern to show off a large scale print - and it worked a charm ✨ A word of caution - Hettie’s pattern pieces are huge so you can’t get away with scrimping on the fabric requirements 😅 I shortened the sleeves since I was a little short on the fabric and happily I’m pleased with the look. This dress is soooo comfy to wear. Ample room for cake. Admittedly, I wasn’t immediately struck by the @sewoverit Hettie dress when it was first released, but the more versions I saw (@rosie_stirling I’m looking at you!) the more I became obsessed with it. It was perfect timing, as we were attending a wedding in Dublin just before Christmas and I’d left making my outfit til the last minute (no surprise there!) I’d purchased my fabric a while ago - the beautiful @fabricgodmother Halo Viscose Twill, which I got from @sewconfident - but I’d originally had a different pattern in mind. I’m so glad I waited though, as I feel the Hettie & Halo combination works beautifully - and it’s a dress I can wear again and again! Hettie is a trapeze style dress which is a quick and easy sew, super comfortable to wear and perfect for twirling! I made the long sleeved version in a size 10, although I took a smaller seam allowance when inserting the sleeves to give myself a little more room across the shoulders and back. I love the elastic at the wrist - it’s 1” wide which is really comfortable and gives a nicer finish than a narrow elastic. I really think Sew Over It have nailed it with this pattern and I will 100% be making it again 😍 And the fabric - just beautiful and brilliant to work with. The gorgeous @sewoveritlondon Hettie dress made in a gorgeous fabric I have had on my stash from @rainbowfabrickilburn #soihettiedress The Hettie Dress is a stunning trapeze-style design with a flattering V-neck, a front pleat detail, and various sleeve options. Fitted at the shoulders and bust, it flows beautifully from the pleat. I made the size 12 and made no other changes apart from making it short sleeved so I could wear in the summer. It’s such a beautiful dress and I will definitely be making again perfect summer dress. 😍😍
