Hello Insta peeps, I hope you've had some time to sew recently! This is my latest #minervabrandambassador post and I love wearing it! When this fabric arrived I was so surprised by how soft it is! It’s got a really lovely drape and feels really soft to touch. The print is also so vivid and rich, it is printed on one side, so the other side is white with a hint of the front colour showing through. I decided it would make the perfect Co-ord set, and stitched up a Helen’s Closet Gilbert Top and Winslow Culottes. Perfect for summer, but means I can also wear the top with jeans throughout the year and get more wear out of it. The print is such a fun summer design, and I love the colours. I had 4 metres of fabric, and used pretty much all of it. The tie version of the top takes quite a bit more fabric as the ties are part of the front pattern pieces, rather than a separate part attached later. I made a size 10 top in View A. And size 10 Culottes, with the elastic waistband hack. One of my favourite outfit combinations this summer has been my dusty pink @helens__closet #winslowculottes paired with an olive linen @closetcorepatterns #kalleshirt⁣ I embrace linen wrinkles, partly because I‘m too lazy to iron and partly because I once read somewhere that they are chic 😁 ⁣ ⁣ I have made two pairs of winslow culottes and love them both. This pair is made from @meetmilk_fabric crispy crepe and has a zipper, which I like slightly less than the elastic but so far I‘ve been too lazy to go back and change it. ⁣ ⁣ The kalle shirt was my first very involved make last summer and I‘m super happy with the fit. The #sabyronwoventop by @stylearc is a simple little classic top with very polished finishes. A lovely deep hem, neat facings and beautiful lines ❤️ I made a straight size 14 with no mods in a pretty purple linen from my stash. I did find the instructions for attaching the facing a little confusing, so used the good old burrito method instead 🌯 The only thing I’d do next time is to lower the bust darts a fraction, otherwise another great pattern from Stylearc 👏🏻 Worn with another favourite of mine the #winslowculottes by @helens__closet I think a matching linen set using these two fabulous patterns is on the cards?🤔 #stylearcpatterns #helensclosetpatterns #helensclosetwinslowculottes #linen #samakerjul25 #greyhairdontcare

I found out the hard way that if one of your pins snags a thread, the print will also pull, and leave a thin white line in the print! Sadly I had this happen on one of the ties on the front, but it’s so thin that hopefully it’s not too noticeable! The fabric presses really nicely with and without steam. I followed the pattern instructions for the top, except to do a 12mm seam on the hem of the sleeves instead of the 3.6cm’s as I like the sleeve longer. I also left the pockets off the culottes, as the fabric is so lovely and drapey, I felt that putting anything in pockets would distort the shape and pull the sides down. The culottes are a very speedy sew! Especially leaving the pockets off, and I simply stitched, then overlocked the seams. I used the elastic waistband hack for the culottes the same as my previous pair, as they are so comfortable to wear and lounge around in. I highly recommend this fabric, and have my eye on some of the other prints too! Hope you’re all enjoying the #bankholidayweekend 🤩 I can’t believe it’s already #memademay2022 this year is flying past! I haven’t shared much recently since I bought a place in Chester and a lot of my free time has been spent on dodgy DIY. On the plus side I do have a sewing room now which isn’t also a gym/dining room/office/hallway so that’s been a big step up. Anyway today I was waking up in bonny Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 with a slightly fuzzy head after a wedding the night before. Most of the day was spent in the car, although there was a quick trip to Edinburgh for lunch with some friends. A new and an old make! @helens__closet Winslow culottes has been a favourite of mine - with me having made two pairs of the elastic back hacked version in recent years. However the last time I did that they were full length and the fabric was so heavy it would pull the garment down. I must have redone the elastic 3 times and I couldn’t get it right. So this time I just made them as Helen intended - and well it worked! Who’d have thought it!?!?! These are made in @minervadotcom exclusive viscose twill (gifted). I needed 2 meters to make the size 12 full length pair. I love them and have found them to be so versatile so far. I can wear them to work but also with a white t shirt and trainers at the weekend. I’m wearing them here with my @tillybuttons Sonny jacket - a make which I have never given its own space on the grid to. I’ll have to rectify that! It’s been a wardrobe workhorse since I made it and I am convinced I need a chambray on for summer. The cropped length is just perfect for my style. I made a size 3 and from memory it also took 2 meters of fabric. This is from @newcrafthouse I love this look and I’m not done making culottes yet. Pt2. This type of base fabric would make lovely pyjamas too as it’s so soft. I pre-washed the fabric and then tumble dried it to make sure any shrinkage would happen before I stitched it up. I decided to use black interfacing as most of the colours are dark on the print. As well as interfacing the collar piece and front facings, I added some Prym Edge Tape Interfacing to the hem of the top around the ties, to stop them from stretching out, and it made it easier to turn over the small seam allowance! The tape is soft enough to fold over easily and you could add some stitches to slightly gather the curved edges, or snip into the seam allowances. Helen’s Closet patterns have really fantastic instructions, and I always follow the stay stitching instructions. It’s projects like this that I love sewing, and will use little finished that no-one else will notice, but that I know are there. For example leaving thread tails on the bust darts to tie off, rather than back stitching them. I made a thing! Never thought I’d wear culottes again after being subjected to them as a child, but here we are… . These are the @helens__closet #winslowculottes made in @dashwoodstudio rayon challis from @minervadotcom (surface pattern design by @rachelparkerdesigns ). . I love them!!! . Adjustments included curving the waistband, as it sat all funny on me on my toile, and lengthening the legs. I omitted the pockets too, mainly because I didn’t have enough fabric (squeezed these out of 2m), but also because I will most likely carry a bag when I wear them. . I love the looks-like-a-skirt-but-comfy-like-trousers-ness. Also LOVE the fabric… so smooth and swishy and beautiful. . I discovered (since I don’t normally wear high waisted things), that I didn’t have a top to wear with them. So I adjusted an old t-shirt by taking in the side seams, cropping the length, and shortening the sleeves. Worked pretty well I think. . Also shown here with my new #blackwoodcardigan which I’ll rave about in another post.
