Spring has - very suddenly! - arrived. Time to photograph my new #elliotsweater against the picturesque backdrop of the A7 motorway! I squeezed this cropped little number out of less than 1 metre of leftover merino knit. It came together super quickly and I like it! Perfect for high-waisted pants like the Persephones. For the Elliot sweater, I cut the size 4/6 but would go up one next time, because my square shoulders create a few drag lines in the back. Finished project #3 in Beth’s learn to sew project. Today was a journey into knits. I made up this lovely soft grey ribbed knit fabric into this warm and cozy cowl necked sweater with a hi lo hem and elbow sleeves. The pattern was the Elliot sweater from Helen’s closet patterns. It was a dream to sew. Instructions clear and detailed, the sweater came together easily. Knits aren’t so tough. I’d like to make it again. But perhaps lengthen sleeves and shorten back hem next time. Helen’s Closet Elliot Sweater made from a comfy cotton/poly stretch velour purchased from Treadle Yard Goods in St. Paul, MN. This is my third Elliott so I must like it and it’s perfect for the cold MN weather. I love this color but I got impatient when finishing the cuffs and should take another pass at them during MeMadeMay which is the only time of year I’m motivated to alter my clothes. New Elliot sweater! This is actually the second one, from the same pattern, still have to take pics of the first one. Pattern: Elliot sweater, view A from @helens__closet Size 8-10 I just lengthened the sleeves, adding 18cm Fabric: incredibly soft jersey viscose from @1000stoff I tried to pattern match the stripes as much as possible, it worked out well in the front, not so much in the back 🤷🏻‍♀️ Very easy pattern, it was a quick sew yesterday afternoon. This is perfect for working from home, so soft and comfy! (Just swap the jeans with my pjs) Had to go to the grocery store this morning and I took it for a spin ☺️ first time out of the house in 10 days 🥸 I didn’t feel picture ready today, but hey, this is my face anyway? This is the first really cold weekend of the season for us, so I stayed cozy all day yesterday with my new #elliotsweater by @helens__closet in ecofleece from @sewtospeak that I won in an instagram challenge hosted by @makerheart. . The only pattern modification I did was to lengthen the sleeves to full length and to use the neck band option instead of the funnel neck option for view A. The pattern was clear and quick, and the fabric was great to sew. The only hiccup was that I redid the hem with my walking foot because it was a bit wavy with my regular foot. . Taking advantage of the pretty snow in northeast Ohio to show off my new @helens__closet Elliot Sweater! This is the first clothing project I’ve made in over a year (I’ve done basically no sewing since March 2020), and it feels so nice to finally be wearing a finished make again. This is a size 16 at the bust graded out to a 18 at the hips, although I probably could’ve kept it a straight 16 since there was plenty of ease at the hips. The fabric is a sweatshirt knit from the children’s collection at JoAnn’s, and I’m glad I bought enough of this for the pattern years ago because the fabric is discontinued 😬 This pattern was super easy and came together in just a few hours. After such a long sewing hiatus, I now feel ready to jump into some more complicated projects!
