Catching up a bit for #wawjanuarychallenge from last week Image 1 & 2 - Style a winter accessory. I believe this is a #sophiescarf or some pattern very similar. It was knitted by my wonderful friend. As a maker I know there is NOTHING more precious than a wearable handmade gift. I wear this everywhere. Worn with a me made #mccalls7969 (Do you remember when we ALL made this pattern?) with a vest (woohoo!) and a belt and black leather riding boots. Image 3 is a Style a rarely worn piece. We love a full coverage short!!👏👏 ° I tested the #MadelineShorts a couple weeks back, and they came together super nicely. This was my second projector sewing project, and I made the mistake of not mirroring one of the front pieces...so if you look closely at the last pic you'll be able to see fabric pieced together.🤫 Luckily, though, I barely even notice it now!😂 ° Details: These are the newly released #MadelineShorts by @madswick_studio which is part of the Made-line set, as a whole. I sewed a size 4, and used fabric that I thrifted. The anchored pockets are one of my fav details of this pattern, where I used contrasting cotton. These were a super fun sew, and I think for anyone looking for oversized and longer shorts, these definitely fit the bill 👌 Oh and I'm wearing the #AshtonTop by @helens__closet which I made yearssss ago! ° I've been doing lots of sewing, dancing and spending time in the sun this summer, which exactly what I needed to recharge from the busy school year ❤️ Projector sewing has saved me so much time and energy, which has made sewing feel much more accessible and approachable! I'm on 'holiday' this week, so I have been doing quite a lot of sewing. It was in my plans, but having Covid was not! Anyway, that has passed now, although I still feel pretty lethargic. I made my first @helens__closet #ashtontop I refashioned the very first top I made when I started my sewing journey - it started life as a Tessuti Athena top but I didn’t get the fit right or the neckline and consequently only wore it once so I thought I’d use the fabric for something else. And I needed fabric for a toile so this is it. It came together quickly this morning and I made straight size 10 though it does need a couple of tweaks - I need to adjust the darts next time I make one but I like it. I used Memade bias tape for the inside and managed to have enough fabric for the hem facing so all good. I used the label@i initially put in the top and combined the with a @cosyclubhandmade cheese label 😝. The sunshine we were having prompted me to use up some leftover fabric I had from a previous Minerva Make. This is my first @helens__closet Ashton top and it really is a scrap buster! I made a size 4, lengthening the cropped version by an inch (and then panicking, I sewed a smaller hem to make it a tad longer still!!) I’m really pleased with the fit. I didn’t have enough fabric to make the facings or binding from my fabric so just used some white pre-made stuff I had already to finish the arms and neck. I absolutely love this linen cotton mix and the bright design. This make is very timely as @minervadotcom are running a spring linen challenge this April. I was gifted this fabric for my dress so not sure if I qualify to enter but thought I’d get involved anyways 😀. When the sun came out today I was really pleased to have got my @helens__closet #ashtontop finished last night. I had to get creative with cutting the last of my @whatvickimade fabric (called ‘The Art’), which meant I had to cut my back panels in 2 pieces and attach. I’ve ended up with a bit of selvedge running down the back, but I really like it. It fits with the fabric so doesn’t look out of place (in my opinion) 💙 I finished with @thespeckyseamstress binding around the neck and armholes, and added one of @whatvickimade labels to finish it off. 🍇🍓 Sew Fruity 🍓🍇 My completed make to enter into #sewfruity24 run by Yvette of @blossomsandwich This is my first Ashton top and I don’t know why I waited so long. Such a simple pattern, and the hem facing gives a lovely weight to the bottom of this top too. I used a 0.9m remnant of this Atelier Brunette Gingham Double Cotton Gauze in Dahlia colour from @guthrieghani and squeezed it out of about 0.85m! That didn’t include cutting the bias binding from the fabric for arms and neckline as I used the perfectly themed strawberry binding from @thespeckyseamstress and a @little.rosy.cheeks label 💜 I made View A (hip length) and cut a size 16 as per the pattern without adding any length. Hoping for summer to return ! Last week I did get the opportunity to wear one of the outfits I made for my recent Greek holiday. It is so cool and comfortable and no I don’t mind the wrinkles. The trousers are my new favourites and I have already made several pairs. I was so pleased when @sewingworkshop launched this pattern in a digital format. Although I am at the top end of the size range they are a very loose fit, I just did a 1” big bum adjustment and they are perfect. This dress might make me a reformed woven hater. It has been a long road, but I think I’ve finally gotten somewhere! I’ve seen these tie front dresses EVERYWHERE on IG and I desperately wanted one, but the main 2 patterns that matched the design details I wanted are only drafted for a B cup. I am a G cup, and a 5 inch FBA is not in my skill set. So I took the @helens__closet Ashton top, made it a v neck, cut it up the front, added ties and used bias tape on all the raw edges. Added a simple gathered skirt and here is the result! I had been on the hunt for some bright green linen to make a pair of wide leg pants with for quite some time, however could never quite find the right shade. Then after a little visit to @tessutifabrics bingo . . . I found the just what I was after! I knew I wanted enough fabric to make a pair of pants so grabbed 2 metres and managed to also squeeze a matching top out of the fabric too. Pants are the #nhsiennatrousers by @nhpatterns - a pattern you would have now seen on my page a few times over. For the top I used the @helens__closet #ashtontop which I did need to shorten slightly to work with the amount of fabric I had left. Obviously I got excited with ric rac trim on this project - I had quite a few rolls of it that I had purchased from @spotlightstores when they had a sale on, knowing one day it would be put to good use. I really love how this matching set turned out and pretty sure I’ll get lots of wear out of each separately as well. #ashtontop from @helens__closet In linnen-cotton mix fabric from @selfmade_com Size 42 with length of size 44 I upper part. I made this before the summer. But it has been so warm this year so it is not used yet (and I did not want to get suncream stains on it!). I had to cut off some in the lining to make it fit together. I guess I did manage to cut it without the threadlines all lined up. Sunday 8th. Today we walked the point at Victoria; Vancouver island and then went into town for breakfast. I saw too squirrels but not quick enough to snap a picture. We then drove up to Nanaimo for lunch. Spectacular scenery. On the way back to accom at Bear mountain we stopped Stanley Park for a walk to Stanley waterfalls.
