It’s not as bad as West coast but we have been having heatwave for a few days. Made #lunatank from @helens__closet . It’s perfect too for hot weather! I did not read the instruction before I cut my fabric and realized this pattern is for knit fabric. But the design is loose and flowy so all I needed to do is recut the neck and armhole bias tape to bound the seam. This pattern is free for news subscribers! The front and back is the same pattern and it comes with two length. My allergies are so bad I can’t wear makeup, but at least my teeth are sparkling from today’s dentist appointment and I’m wearing a new me made top! This is a super comfy @helens__closet tank made from scraps I snuck from a bag @son.of.a.stitch87 gave me to give away. 😬 I didn’t have enough for the whole thing though so I had to improvise and made the back out of some ribbed fabric I incorrectly ordered for another project years ago. I kind of hate that gold fabric on me but at least I don’t have to look at it, and it got the job done. Plus I’m just excited to finally have another #helensclosetlunatank. #MeMadeMay2022 Day 12 This fabric is so lovely to wear, and it's easy to cut, comes in lots of lovely colours and can be used for all sorts of garments! I had originally intended this to be for baby clothes, but changed my mind when it came as it's slightly more rigid than I thought. I left the hem of the tank raw, to keep it as drapey as possible. It shouldn't fray as it's knitted. I love the look of it, I probably could size down for my next one, but it's going to be lovely to wear in the summer with shorts, or to throw over a swimsuit. Luna tanks! This was a good practice project for me since I wanted to try sewing with knits. This is so easy and beginner-friendly, and the tank is so comfortable and perfect for tropical, humid weather 🌞 So, after much research how to go about sewing with knits, I bought the required sewing needle for lightweight knits and made two luna tanks from Helen's Closet. The pattern is free on HC. 🙌 . The first one I did was the yellow stripes one. I made a mistake by cutting one panel against the grain. I didn't want to waste fabric, so I decided on a reversible tank with vertical stripes on one panel and horizontal stripes on the other. Size 12 turned out to be too loose, though. . I'm usually a size 12 when I sew HC patterns, but this time since it's such a loose and flowy garment, I opted for a size 10 for the second one. That's the pink tank on the first picture. The Luna is just too easy of a sew and this silhouette is my favorite. I chose this bunny fabric because it so easily matched this pencil skirt and I’m trying to not spend too much time mulling over my options. While I’m happy with how the Luna turned out, I should have made the neck/arm bands longer. I made this Luna Tank last summer, but the bands made it pull too tight, so it went into the mend pile. A year later I finally understood what needed to be done. I took the bands off and made the arms bigger. I learned over the past year how to cut the appropriate length bands, so it was snap to get them right this time. No more pulling at the neck and a great fit through the arms! I’ve been working away at creating a decent number of me-made everyday tops to add into the mix for summer. Fortunately I’ve found some great, simple patterns that are also so easy and quick to work with! This is my first #LunaTank from @helens__closet and l am in love. It truly only took a couple hours to come together from pattern cutting to finish and I didn’t need to make any modifications to the 4/6. Bonus that the pattern is free! Will definitely make a few more of these ASAP. 💐 1sts/lessons learned: It is possible to top stitch neck and armbands with a zig-zag and have it look good (though I would prob break the rules and go for a straight stitch next time because I think I could get away with it). I don’t usually wear tank tops but the #lunatank by @helens__closet might just change that. It’s insanely comfortable and a quick sew. I used a medium weight bamboo rib knit from @blackbirdfabrics in a Peacock color, which has a heavy but comfy sort of swing to it. I really love this shirt and this fabric. my very first me made top! the #helensclosetlunatank (or as i’ve been referring to it, “mumu shirt”) in an old bedsheet. i neglected to lengthen the straps at first like the pattern tells you to for bigger armholes, so i just scooped them before bias binding. PLEASE don’t look too closely!!! it’s so obviously handmade 😌 but perfect for still being in my hot sleeping and breastfeeding era. i could use more room across the shoulders in the back, i find it a little tight there, but i am pretty broadly built. i ended up making 2 as sleeping tanks and i love sleeping in them!

My second attempt at the #lunatank using the hack for wovens, not sure where I went wrong with this - had to size down instead of up and I still need to narrow the shoulders. #MeMadeMay2022 Day 11 #LunaTank by @helens__closet My measurements put me at a size 8/10, and I cut the longest length of view A, on the size 32-34 cutting line. (I'm 5ft 6). There are only three pattern pieces making this a speedy garment to cut out and sew. If you cut your pattern pieces out on a single layer, you can get each piece really close together and save on fabric! Having learn't how much this fabric stretches on a previous make, I decided not to iron anything until I absolutely had to. I also really trimmed down my seam allowances to avoid bulk. I’ve been super busy and hot 🥵 this weekend but I’ve had a successful sewing session and loved it, and all these garments cost me less than £25, plus my time 😇. First up is the Helens Closet Luna tank made with modal bamboo twill and not stretch fabric as should be (🙃) and I made my own bias tape too. Next is my campervan vest and wonder undies and this was exactly what I wanted this fabric for; the bands on both were from scraps I had from other projects hence one green and one white! The flowery vest is a new fabric for me, just like the Luna fabric but this was tencel modal jersey and I loved working with it (I was really nervous about it but ended up loving it 😍). And finally I made a sweatshirt using French terry for the main bodice and sweatshirt fabric for the sleeves, too if the back and all the bands.
