Made a couple of Helen’s Closet’s Sam Aprons as Christmas gifts. It is free pattern with email address and great instructions with one exception, the bias needed to be cut 2” wide. Added some fun embroidery to personalize them. Used a medium to heavy cotton twill. Lots of hardware or hardware free options. Even used some leather scraps to up the finish. Dog print SAM Apron- Woof! The last of the handmade Christmas presents is another version of the SAM apron, a free pattern from Helen's Closet patterns. The Sam Apron is the perfect everyday apron for cooking and crafts. This pattern includes sizes 0-34 and cut lines for heights from less than 5’ tall to over 6’ tall! No more “one size fits all” aprons that don’t fit properly. The Sam Apron includes chest and waist pockets, towel loops, and two strap options! There are two versions, a modern cross back apron or a classic halter neck apron. This pattern is endlessly customizable and an ideal sewing project for beginners. I chose to make version B but without the towel loops. For the fabric I chose 1 metre of cotton printed with dogs (for the dog lover!), Simple Pleasures by Noomi Wilkinson #90308 for FIGOFabrics.Com. Due to a slight miscalculation of fabric requirement I had to cut the bias strips in several pieces and the waist pockets slightly smaller but they are still useable. The bias binding and the straps are all made from the cotton print with just scraps left over. Conclusion: The fabric was a joy to sew and I am very pleased with the end result. Having made this apron several times for friends and family, I have now ordered fabric to make one for me! Really enjoyed making the @helens__closet #helensclosetsamapron. Best of all it fits him!! Made the size16-20 as per his measurements and the length for over 6 feet tall. Used left over heavy cotton fabric I bought from @amothreadsofficial last year to make cushions for the garden furniture. Even made a tea towel from the leftovers. RTW aprons just do not fit. Today I've started to sew an apron for my brother-in-law to wear whilst he does "a bit of cooking" in the kitchen and "is in charge of the BBQ" in the summer months.. The fabric is the Sevenberry Ventana 8oz Cotton Twill in Smoke Blue which was featured recently in a Star Fabric reel. The pattern is the Sam apron from Helen's Closet which I have made before, although this time I will be using a wide blue cotton tape instead of cutting the neck and waist ties from the fabric... Sam Apron || I sewed this apron for someone who knows his way around the kitchen but is forever using his daughters (novelty) apron…. I think we can all relate! What a thoughtful (free!) pattern this is by @helens__closet . It includes cut lines for different heights as well as sizes! Which is handy because my “little” brother (recipient) is pretty tall. I chose the cross-back variation for the cool hipster vibe 😎 and added some leather patch details & even his initials using my machine alphabet. Happy early Bday P!!
