Brooks Jeans 🐆 Made these jeans a few months back but they never made it to the grid until now. I made these full length but am considering shortening them a little bit to make them ankle length. When I very first started sewing, the first thing I made was a fully lined shift dress, inspired by @sewamapola I have never worn it and it was moved to a box out of the way but I decided I wanted to use the fabric and these are the result. It’s a chambray that came from @minervadotcom and there wasn’t enough for the inner waistband or fly shield so I used some of the lining fabric. Talk about improvising - I had to use the fabric for the fronts against the grain but it’s woven - it’s all good!👍🏻 I made do with what I had for back pockets and I used my modified @helens__closet #brooksjeanshorts pattern. I reused the label “ta da” from the dress and added more, including the llama label from @cosyclubhandmade !! I did change the fly construction as the way I do it now with the grown on fly facing works perfectly for me and I followed @sewsewlive for both the fly and waistband construction. Day 22 of #memademay2023 I finally finished the pants!!! These are the Brooks Jeans by @helens__closet, made from a heavier cotton canvas from @saltlakesewciety. I made a size 22 bc that matched my measurements pretty well, but I ended up having to take in the waist like 3" before I finished it. I'm loving the colorblocked back, but I have some tweaking to do to get the fit right for me. There is some pulling around the bum that I'm not a fan of, but fitting pants by yourself is so hard. This is my contribution to the #ohsewme23 challenge hosted by @stitch_and_style_by_Nadia and it’s all about sewing a pattern in April that has been adjusted to suit your body/style. I’ve made this pattern before but had never managed to get it quite right though did make alterations, but after making my work jeans and classing those as my fourth toile, these are now my fifth and final pair and here’s the story behind them…. These are the @helens_closet #brooksjeans. I’ve altered the height of the front and back rise, I reduced the depth of the yoke and I changed the coin pocket to suit my style. I used a 3/8” seam allowance on the inseam and side seams as I went down two sizes after my toile(s) proved to be too big and I did French seams on my pocket bags, the first I’ve done since learning to sew with @starttostitch back in 2021! My zip fly is the best one I’ve done yet so I’m super happy with it and I used denim thread for my topstitching as opposed to topstitching thread which my machine didn’t like! When I finally tried the finished hood on I decided that the top of the inner thighs was too big and I was really disappointed. I slept on it and the next morning it was out with the seam ripper after watching a couple of YouTube tutorials and I unpicked the inseams along with all my topstitching. I pinned and measured and redid them including the fiddly topstitching and I think the final result shows. (It was at this point I decided to add a third #katmlabels which is the “fabulous” one on the inner waistband.) I’ve added two #katmlabels and a cute little ribbon to my coin pocket. My denim fabric and denim thread was from @jennysyitchesfabrics and the red doggy fabric and standard thread was from @sewcraftysouthport. I’m super happy with them and couldn’t wait to post the finished pictures 🙃.
