I've just finished my first Wildwood Vest! I chose this combo for a recent @needlesharpny subscription box. The flannel is a pretty herringbone flannel, with Cotton and Steel print for the lining. All that binding was included, along with cotton batting, thread, heavy duty needles and super sized snaps. It didn't even fit in the usual box! I loved how the instructions went over all the options for quilting and making it up for a successful make the first time! Wildwood Coat 💙 Have made a spring coat for my mom in the quilted Thelma fabric with matching bias binding and buttons. The colour is a lovely navy - so difficult to photograph!! I used the longer bodice pieces and also lengthened the front and back with 15cm. So much fun making #helensclosetwildwood....made from a white n' black quilted toile bedspread that I cut, dyed and bias-bound until I was seeing endless purple ribbons in my sleep! Made just in time for the autumn weather that’s finally arrived. This easy to make quilted #wildwoodjacket from @helens__closet is lightweight but cosy to wear. The outer fabric is from @rainbowfabrickilburn and it’s lined with cotton. As I’m tall I added 3 inches to the length and two inches to the arms. I just finished writing up my @helens__closet Wildwood vest on the bl0g and boy, is it a beefy post! It will be live on Sunday morning and these 3 pics are just a taster of the in-depth breakdown of this pattern. Spoiler alert! I love it, I wore it out for an anniversary dog walk on the beach on Wednesday and it was perfect for keeping those nippy winds at bay. I added press studs with my Hulk press from @trimmingshopuk and rivets around the pockets. I made some mods to the pattern - sharpened the corners at the front, added a chest pocket and hand sewed the side and shoulder seams. As ever, this is made with reclaimed and secondhand fabrics, I even reused the label that came with the wool blanket I used as the batting. Does it look like a flak jacket? Maybe. Do I care? Happy New Year, all! I wanted to share my first major project of the year. I actually cut this out earlier last year (2024) but didn't finish it until January 😜. This is the #helensclosetwildwood from @helens__closet patterns. I found this vintage quilt at the @algeorgetownarea thrift shop, which I volunteer at. It was damaged and stained, so I had to be very thoughtful with my pattern placement. Even still, I had to repair a lot of areas with embroidery or patches. The quilt didn't have any batting, just a cotton backing, so I had to add that. I also did the diamond quilted design. The cotton batting and lining fabric I got from an estate sale. The only thing that was new was the bias tape. It was approximately 20 hours of work and very labor intensive but it was worth it. It's very warm and will be a piece I'll keep in my closet for years to come. 😊
