I’m excited share a few makes I made for Ben and I to attend our running club’s 35th anniversary party. My jumpsuit is the #closetcorepauline bodice by @closetcorepatterns with the #lockhartjumpsuit trousers by @helens__closet If you saw my previous post, you will have seen my toile of the Pauline dress and I had to make many changes to get it to fit well. The trousers also involved a bit of tweaking and an extra dart. It was totally worth the effort and I love the toile and final jumpsuit! The jumpsuit fabric is from @fabricgodmother and is a beautiful viscose satin. It has such a lovely weight and drape. I’m in love! The slight issue with the fabric though is how slippy it is so the ties required a lot of spray starch to get them to hold a bow. 😅 I’m pleased with the pattern matching (sort of!) on the back bodice princess seams and with the insertion of my invisible zip. It took a few goes to get the trouser length exactly where I wanted them with my high heels on and I think I nailed it. 👍 The jewellery is fab and I got it at the #knittingandstitchingshow but I misremembered the colours in the jumpsuit so there isn’t actually red in it. I’m still happy with how it looked with the jumpsuit though and I matched my nails to the jewellery to try to tie it all together. Ben’s shirt is the #Cameronshirt by @helens__closet which I have adjusted to fit him. It took a bit of unpicking because I firstly put the pocket on the wrong side so I had to recut the left side and then I wasn’t happy with the pocket placement after I’d finished the final shirt and Ben tried it on so I very carefully unpicked it and resewed it. It’s easy to see unpicking on this material but I fortunately got away with it. I used the inside of one of his old ties and adjusted the #soitie to fit the shape. The tie was a much easier sew than the first time I tried to sew a tie which was a bit of a disaster tbh

Took this new @truebias #quinnvest for a spin today. I wore it over my @helens__closet #lockhartjumpsuit I actually split the seam right on my 🍑 during the morning sprint around my house. I heard it but couldn’t find an issue until it became a hole around 2 pm that I had to handsew shut in an office bathroom stall 🤦🏼‍♀️. But back to the vest, it’s a size 8 view A with no mods. It’s a tad tight but I wouldn’t size up. This size usually fits me in the True Bias block. The fabric is @blackbirdfabrics washed cotton canvas. I used the leftovers from my pants I made for my spouse. I want to make the 90s kindergarten teacher jean dress of my dreams but I like to start with the lowest fabric commitment and work my way up to full length. This is my version of the Lockhart jumpsuit by @helens__closet and I love it! ✨Fit ✨ I made a toile a while ago and made quite a lot of fitting changes which I detailed in a previous post. I can’t remember all the details because I remembered (for once!) to transfer them to the pattern pieces. I’d done lots of work on the pattern but I’d not got a wearable garment so I wanted to revisit this pattern. It did need a few more tweaks to get it to fit right this time. I put the zip in (very well!) at @beesilva.events and did my first try on. I love sewing with others as they are so encouraging! But I had some excess around the small of my back, which I wanted to remove, so I took out the zip at home, removed the excess and reattached the zip. I later took excess out under the zip and had to shorten the straps very slightly. While this fits well, I’d make one more tweak on my next version to lengthen the bodice by a further lcm. This would mean it’d sit better and provide a little more ease on the crotch length which I need when sitting. ✨Fabric ✨ This fabric is from @rainbowfabrickilburn - I love the weight, drape and colour! The colour is more true to life in the garden photos. It’s a blue-y grey and can look different depending on the lighting, You can see the movement in the fabric on the video in the windy streets of Wakefield! Behind me is the gorgeous stone of the town hall. ✨Finish ✨ I initially stitched in the ditch to secure the lining at the waist seam but the thread wasn’t the best match so stood out in places where I didn’t exactly hit the ditch. I saw an ad for a khaki green jersey jumpsuit a few months ago and haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. So when I got this khaki knit, I knew it would be perfect for the jumpsuit of my dreams. Pattern: #LockhartJumpsuit by @helens__closet I've had some issues with the fit of this pattern in the past, particularly with gaping in the boddice even after a SBA. For this version I tried doing a faux SBA (on top of the adjusment I'd already made) by slashing into the top of each side boddice panel and overlapping the paper by the amount of gaping I had. This did the trick and I ended up with a tighter fit, which was perfect for the amount of stretch in the fabric. The original jumpsuit had buttons on the straps, so I added a row of buttons to each strap and a buttonhole to the sides of the boddice. I was getting a weird bump at the bottom of the zip, probably because the knit fabric didn't have enough structure to keep the zipper tab flat, so I ended up shortening it to my waist and this solved the issue. Fabric: Cotton Jersey in Khaki by @customfabrics 200gsm, 95% cotton & 5% elastane A great all-rounder jersey with a little elastane to give it a bit more stretch. It's also extra wide so I got away with buying only 1.5m and I still have a lot left for something else. The  jumpsuit has generally kept it shape well after a number of washes but the interfacing on the back boddicedid get unfused and created bubbles in some places. I did manage to fuse it again with a hot iron and lots of steam without having to remake the whole boddice. I think it was caused by pulling and stretching the fabric on the back when zipping/unzipping the jumpsuit despite using knit interfacing. So, the truth is I was planning for this to be a set, with a cute little bolero, or maybe a cropped button up that ties at the waist. But the truth also is, I haven’t done that. I made the dress, and have worn it a HEAP so clearly it’s an outfit on its own and deserves a square on the grid. This is the beautiful fabric from @sewtogrow ‘s new Summer Abroad collection with @devonstone_fashion that I won at Brisbane Frocktails last year 😄 It’s so beautiful and vibrant and while I am a pink girly normally, I truly adore this colourway! This is my full length #lockhartjumpsuit by @helens__closet The sun was a little too bright on attempt #2 to get photos, but I am dealing with a lot of childcare constraints the next couple weeks, and usually marathoning with kids during the golden hours of the day. I love the fit on this. My alterations were to add an inch to the crotch length. That inch wasn’t quite enough so I also let out the waist seam by half inch total. Also on my last version I had taken 1.25 inches off the straps and that was too much on this crisper fabric so I recut with a 3/4 inch reduction in length. Behold the best photo I took at @wpg.frocktails a couple days ago. I’m excited to see the photos the photographer took. I was nervous to go as I don’t know very many sewists IRL outside of my little community sews group. I’m glad I went as I got to meet some new people and I loved seeing all of the beautiful outfits people wore. I hope you’ve experienced a random stranger complimenting you in a me-made! Isn’t there something extra special about that? I wore this #LockhartJumpsuit to the theatre tonight and a woman stopped me to say she liked it! Wow, did that ever make my evening 🌟 Oh, and the play was wonderful too! This was a pattern I wanted as soon as I saw it but I procrastinated the making a little because the fitting intimidated me. But it went together so beautifully. I interfaced both layers of the bodice after adding 1/2” to all of the pieces for height. I also added an inch to the rise and 1/2” to the leg length. I’m so pleased that these all contributed to a near-perfect fit on my first go. I am currently working on one for my daughter now but will look forward to trying this again for me next summer — in both jumpsuit and dress format. More pics by my 10 year old. First one made me lol, but the jumpsuit at least looks good. This is my #lockhartjumpsuit by @helens__closet This is a size 10. You can see more details about my bodice fitting process in reel on my grid. I’m wearing a low profile bra in this pic so it’s a bit loose up top, but kind of jives with a casual romper. In my next version I will add one inch to the rise and half inch in the bodice length. It was too short as written. This is a normal problem for me with jumpsuits. Here I scooped out as much as I could on the crotch seam and shortened the bodice attachment seam to 3/8. It all worked out for this version but I think that inch would be a cleaner fix. After seeing pictures this morning, I adjust the back darts by pinching a quarter inch more out to account for my sway back/low seat. Fabric is #bfviscoselinennoil by @blackbirdfabrics This is almost the same color as a Saturday skirt set I made last year but this color, raspberry, is a few notches more red. Sending my grid into the cool linens. I have been spending alll my spare time on this one (and I have more linen on deck!!). I would never be able to wear this from a store - they just don’t fit at all. So this was quite exciting! 𝗙𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰: Ravello cloud grey cotton/linen blend from @stitchhappensyqg . My first HC pattern. I’m still new to wovens. I sewed the seams before learning how to finish the edges 🫣 and so the Hong Kong binding finish seemed easiest - last pic shows inside 😍. It's so versatile and the lightweight material made it bearable to wear a garment that covered my knees (I threw a scarf over my shoulders when we went to religious sites that required knees and shoulders to be covered) in the humid heat. The type of fabric you use can change up how much ease you need!⁠ ⁠ Ease is the extra length and width that pattern drafters add (or subtract!) from pattern pieces so that you can move around (and for style). A fitted knit top, like Caroline’s #BFCarrieCrop, can have zero ease or even negative ease - the stretch of the fabric makes up for it. Sewing is the great enabler: I wont buy a special outfit for one day anymore, but you bet I will sew one! The Rose Disco was just the excuse I needed to sew another jumpsuit. Enter: Helens closet Lockhart jumpsuit in a rayon/linen blend. This turned out to be perfect for an afternoon of sipping rose and listening to some DJs. Pattern details: @helens__closet #lockhartjumpsuit midi length, thick straps. Size: I measured 8/10/12 for b/w/h, and I lengthened it 1" in the torso above the waist seam, and a lil bit through the rise. I needed to modify the bodice, sizing the top of it down to at least a 6. Of course I added the pockets. Fabric I picked up at @fabricland.canada . I went to visit my old friends at the new west location, before the seamwork meetup a few weeks back. This pattern is so comfortable, practical, and versatile, with so many options. California Day 5/Disney Day 3: We hit up our favourites again, including Rise of the Resistance, Indiana Jones, Incredicoaster, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Hello 😊 what another beautiful sunny day ☀️😎 I’ve been out and about today wearing my 2nd version of the Helens Closet Lockhart jumpsuit, and I’m even more in love with this version than with the first one 🥰 So this version is sewn in a gorgeous Atelier Jupe fabric I purchased at Make Fabric Boutique ❤️ I made it the same size as my last version - size 10 at the bust grading to a size 12 for the waist and hips, increased the bodice length by 2cm 🪡🧵 I made as few other adjustments to this version : I reduced the crotch length by approx 1” , and took a very small amount of width out of the legs. Most recent iteration of the @helens__closet #LockhartJumpsuit I'm *almost* there with the fit 😅 The last bust adjustment I did on the side boddice panels on top of the original SBA has worked a little too well. It took care of the side gaping but now the boddice is a bit too tight and it squeezes my chest enough that I get short of breath if I get too excited 😂 The fact that this fabric has zero stretch also doesn't help but I ended up using a smaller seam allowance in some places and opted for a normal zip rather than the recommended invisible zip to create a bit of extra space. The seam ripper was working extra hard in this one until I got enough space in there to be able to breathe normally 😂 I do love how it turned out though and it's surprisingly comfy for not being very stretchy! I added buttons similarly to my knit version but this time I sewed the button onto the main body and the buttonhole onto the strap. This way there's waaaay less pressure on the hole and it doesn't stretch out when wearing. I also added a decorative second row of buttons to the straps. In my next version I'll try reducing the seam allowances on the side and front boddice, reduce the back darts by ~1cm each and use a normal zip again. Fabric 100% cotton popplin from the extra wide collection at @rainbowfabrickilburn It's a lovely lightweight and breathable yet very strong fabric but IMO the jumpsuit version of this pattern works best with a little bit of stretch, whether from a woven with some elastane mixed in or a knit. I have been thinking about this combo a long time, and finally got to wear it today. My @fridaypatterncompany #saturdayskirtset top over my @helens__closet #lockhartjumpsuit. The return to office has been rough, but after 5 years of isolation, kind of a trip to emerge with this arsenal of #memade fits 😂 [ID: Me in a dusty pink wide leg jumpsuit with a forest green floral wrap top layered overtop. The beautiful Lockhart jumpsuit in a lovely black linen-viscose blend that gets softer with every wash and wear ❤️ The buttons were strategically placed there to hide a construction flaw but I've grown to love them as a design element 😅 Pattern: Lockhart Jumsuit and Dress by @helens__closet I did have a few fitting issues with the bodice despite carefully selecting the size, grading between sizes, and toiling the bodice. I've seen some other sewist mention a very simialr problem to mine so I think it's one to expect if you have a smaller bust/have smaller high bust-bust ratio. The only adjustment I made to this first version was grading between the sizes on the bodice pieces and using a larger seam allowance than recommended (2.5cm/1in instead of 1.6cm/5/8in). This still left me with a huge gape in the front and side bodice pieces. I'd already finished the lining and couldn't be bothered taking it all apart so I just sewed a large dart at the centre front to act as a faux button placket of sort. Then added some large buttons on top to distract from the fold. I also found that the length of the rise wasn't enough for me so I get drag lines around the crotch and feel some tugging when wearing. In a later version I added around 2.cm/1in to the raise and this solved it. Fabric: Viscose-Linen Stretch Woven by @poundfabrics in Black 27% Linen, 70% Viscose, 3% Spandex, approx. 227 gsm so versatile weight for both warmer and colder months. The fabric is initially a bit scratchy because of the linen content but it does get significantly softer the more I wear and wash it. When I initially bought tickets to #winnipegfrocktails I was planning on wearing a #lockhartjumpsuit from @helens__closet. Unfortunately life has gotten in the way and I’m not even started making the full jumpsuit. I have been really liking @helens__closet patterns lately as I’ve discovered their block is so close to a perfect fit for me with very few alterations. This is an #ashtontop in a size 14D. I find it a bit tight in the shoulders after wearing so am in the process of making a size 16, which I will wear if I finish 🤞🏻. Fabric is ecovera viscose from the local fabric swap. This is my muslin of the pants from the #lockhartjumpsuit. Size 16, with 3” taken from the length. Fabric was dead stock cotton blend from @oursocialfabric. Looking forward to meeting up with fellow sewists tomorrow.

If you saw my stories during the week, you would have seen me discuss this #lockhartjumpsuit #lockhartdress from @helens__closet Don’t get me wrong- I’m delighted with how it looks and it will be a great summer dress. However, the bust needed some major adjustment to fit and that was unexpected after picking my size carefully from the size chart and finished measurements. As you can see in the last photo (this is my wearable toile), I had to pinch out an enormous dart going horizontally over the upper bust. It’s about 4cm in total, going across the centre front panel and ending in a (slightly pointy) dart on the front side panel. I’m not really sure how the designer intended it to fit but I’m happy with how it sits on my body now. I did think the skirt was a little too straight when I was making it, but in these photos it seems not a bad amount of flare. If I was to make the mini version, I think I would flare it a bit more. I will be interested to see other people sewing this pattern up, especially those a similar size to me, and see what they do with the bust and front neckline … I will make another with the adjustments made to the pattern and see how it goes! Perfect summer dress 👗 This is a mash up of a few patterns 🧵 🪡 For the bodice I used the #lockhartdress by @helens__closet with the back from #darladress by @truebias I love the look of double spaghetti straps so these are another modification. For the skirt I used the #steelepinafore by @elbe_textiles and elasticated the back of the skirt like the Darla pattern. The fabric is lovely drapey navy rayon from @spotlightstores I tried a few different methods for the spaghetti straps or rolleau straps. They were very frustrating to make. The most foolproof method for me was using a bobby pin to turn the straps.

I’ve been waiting for our trip to Vancouver Island to photograph my @helens__closet #lockhartdress. I sewed a mid-calf length dress in Vanilla Watercolor Wildflowers Digital Print Double Gauze from @stylemakerfabrics. I lined it in two colors of Rayon Bemberg from @stonemountainfabric. I cut out a size 8 bodice, grading to size 12 waist and back down to size 10 hips. I also removed several inches of flare (hem circumference) to create an A-line silhouette. This is hands-down my favorite dress and the nicest garment I’ve sewn for myself. It’s as beautiful inside as out, which is my 2nd favorite thing about me-mades (the best thing is having clothes that fit!). I also added “bra strap keepers” on the inside of the straps — final photo. When I make it again (several for sure!!) I will only grade the front bodice to size 12 -> 10 and leave the back bodice as is, so it follows the curve of my spine naturally. I loved my shirred-back Lockhart hack so much that I’ve decided to redo this one! This heart print chambray is so fun but even after extensive fitting, I just wasn’t reaching for it. My lining was a little too tight and my interfacing too stiff. At this point I should know that I’m just not going to wear something that isn’t comfortable. So, I’ve ordered a little more fabric I’m and replacing the whole back of the dress! I’ll use the same hack of adding a shirted center back panel to the bodice and widening the center back skirt. So, the truth is I was planning for this to be a set, with a cute little bolero, or maybe a cropped button up that ties at the waist. But the truth also is, I haven’t done that. #anatilleapattern #magicpants are far and away my favorite make of the year This time these are using sliders hardware and a green cotton twill with light stretch. I made them in a size medium and they are comfortable and I'm pretty certain they'll last to my end of pregnancy size which is nuts while working as cute functional pants after the belly isn't bumping (I'll have to go in and reset the pull straps though) Added back pockets because honestly these pants have awesome front pockets but I always want back pockets on pants. Other quality of life change was an elastic hidden in the top of the stretch panel, made these have better recovery stretched over a big belly while still remaining ultra comfy. Also a fun hacked #lockhartdress top which looks very different on my body than earlier this year.

Where do I begin? 🧵⁣ ⁣ This project was difficult. If I hadn't already spent days on the many toiles, trying to make the princess seamed bodice fit, I would have probably given up, but I was too deep into it! 🫠⁣ ⁣ Let me first say though, it's not the pattern's fault, the #LockhartDress pattern was very clear as always with @helens__closet patterns and I will sew it again, probably when I'm more experienced. I bit off more than I can chew (or sew? lol) 🫡 ⁣ I have never sewn a princess-seamed bodice and never made so many adjustments to have the right fit. Basically, my bust measurement was size 4 and my waist and hips were size 10. I made many toiles to find something that fit me (you can see all the details on my @threadloop.app project)⁣ ⁣ Then I realised my fabric, which is 100% cotton canvas, didn't give me the drape I was looking for and made me question everything! Looking back now I'm glad I chose this fabric. It's a beautiful floral cotton from @libertyfabrics that was on sale at my local fabric shop and matches perfectly with the blue of my partner's suit 🩵⁣ ⁣ I nearly gave up but many friends on here helped me to make my version better. I changed the big straps to thinner straps that tie up. I added a front slit to give it a bit of movement. I made the neckline more square as mine was much more round than what it was supposed to be (no idea why). ⁣ ⁣ I LOVE the final look but it took me a while to get there and for everything to come together. I completed my first Lockhart dress by @helens__closet back in August. Helens Closet patterns are amazing - excellent drafting, very clear instructions, beautiful finishes and Helen always comes up with fun hacks for her patterns. The Lockhart pattern has both a dress and jumpsuit option in varying lengths from mini to maxi. The bodice is fully lined, the straps are nice and wide on this version to cover bra straps. I also really like how the bodice finishes high on the chest/bust. The closure is an invisible zip at centre back. The A line skirt is very flattering with darts and huge pockets. This fabric is a doona cover from Kmart. I loved the print. Perfect for spring! All dressed up and nowhere to go! As soon as I saw the @helens__closet #lockhartdress, I knew exactly what I wanted to make. This is my first attempt at using a border print which I picked up at @inkuri_kangaskauppa while traveling in Finland this spring. Fitting was a bit of a challenge, but I’m so pleased with how it came out. This was also my first time using a Helen’s closet pattern, and I especially appreciated the tips about making sure that the back waist seams and the top of the zipper were in perfect alignment. New maxi skirt: This is the lower part of @helens__closet #lockhartdress I used a dark green tencel purchased @stofflandfluss.biostoffe It‘s back in stock now but when I bought it there was just this 1m left and I could just squeeze out this skirt (zero waste!!). I added an interfaced cotton waist band and it fits just perfectly. It actually also perfectly fitted two other women with my size that have spent the weekend with me sewing. Meinen neuen grünen Rock habe ich aus nur einem Restmeter von diesem tollen grünen Tencel von @stofflandfluss.biostoffe geschnitten bekommen. Ich habe noch einen Beleg aus verstärkter Baumwolle als Taillenband genäht und ich finde, er sitzt wirklich gut. Der Stoff hat auch einen schönen Fall und er trägt sich wirklich gut. Er saß übrigens auch bei zwei anderen Frauen, die am Wochenende mit beim #scheunennähen waren, richtig gut. Und er ist super schnell zu nähen. Taschen kann man auch hinzufügen, aber ich finde, in diesem Fall hätte das die schöne Silhouette gestört. Two of my favorite college friends got married yesterday and I was lucky enough to be there to celebrate with them 🌸💖 I made my @helens__closet #LockhartDress out of the famous @blackbirdfabrics prisim linen and absolutely loved the finished product. The perfect wedding guest dress! I was a bit scared to use linen since it’s so wrinkle prone but I have zero regrets. I was also going to make a matching tie for my wife but didn’t realize how much fabric they used so thrifted this super cute purple tie instead 💜 Pattern deets- I made a size 20 which fit me pretty well but I made a few small changes— took out a 1-inch wedge under each armpit due to some gaping, lowered the bust apex 1/2 an inch, graded out to a 22 at the hips, and drafted a hem facing instead of doing a double fold hem. I did the midi length and narrower straps (which i would shorten like 1/2 an inch next time).

In the lead up to my honeymoon, I made a few select pieces — one of which was this #LockhartDress from @helens__closet! I enjoyed this make and love that the dress bodice is lined. It’s a great spring/summer piece, but will also work in colder weather when layered. Made with linen from @blackbirdfabrics in baked clay and lined with a print I picked up at @libertyfabrics in February.

I had so much fun at @madewithharmony tonight to celebrate the fabric launch of the @houselarsbuilt collab with @fableism !!! I wore a dress made out of fabric from their new line (of course!) This is the #lockhartdress pattern from @helens__closet in size 16 graded to 20 at the waist. I did pleats instead of darts, added boning to the side seams, used a metal zipper instead of invisible, and I plan on adding a side slit later! The fabric is the Midsommar Plaid from the Swedish Holiday collection. Like all Fableism fabric, this sewed up like a dream. I have never had to mend any of my pieces sewn out of fableism fabric and I wear them a lot. Note about the Lockhart: I’m glad I made a toile of the bodice. I did a FBA to match my measurements and it was a disaster. It was much too large! When I fitted the toile I realized that if I went with the unaltered pieces then it fit. I measured as needing a 2” FBA so that is very odd! Other people seem to have a hard time fitting the top too. I recommend making a toile. The rest of the pattern seemed to be good! Special time with my family! I finished sewing my dress the night before(do you do this?) I received the fabric< gift card over a year ago from my daughter and just waited for the right inspiration to use it. I really just loved looking @juliaallissoncost fabric but now that I made it I want to wear it again! I used @helens__closet pattern and added the scalloped piping! If you have NOT purchased this pattern don’t overlook it like I did at first! I thought I had a similar pattern. What I have realized is you get your 💰worth with so many options including a romper and jumpsuit and I think it is open to many interpretation’s of hacking and fabric color blocking etc or just use your favorite fabric! It’s an easy sew! The piping I made, and for the straps I did have to hand sew also down the small seam🥹, the scalloped edges I just created with paper. The Inspo was a Farm Rio dress 👉🏻👉🏻 as it was backless and I don’t have a 30” waist could never buy so I’m thankful I 🪡🧵. My daughter gave me the best compliment when she said it looked like a designer dress! 😍 We hopped the monorail to visit the resorts to look around, shop enjoy the beautiful flowers and view and watch other kids play and reminisce about past visits(so many I can’t keep count) it does make me a bit 😂 plus we joked about how as a Grandma I will buy the kids the expensive balloon etc I would never get for my kids! 🤭Disney and family together is magical and it was a day/night to remember . This is my second #Lockhartdress by the lovely Helen of #helens__closet fame. This may be my new t&t dress for summertime. I used embroidered cotton gauze eyelet & a poly lining, both from @needlesstudio in downtown Los Altos. I cut out a size 8 bodice and graded up to size 10 for the waist & hips. The fit is just loose enough to be comfortable on toastier days. As with my first #lockhartdress, I removed several inches of flare (hem circumference). The a-line silhouette is more flattering for my petite frame. I love this version every bit as much as my first one. Hello 😊 what another beautiful sunny day ☀️😎 I’ve been out and about today wearing my 2nd version of the Helens Closet Lockhart jumpsuit, and I’m even more in love with this version than with the first one 🥰 So this version is sewn in a gorgeous Atelier Jupe fabric I purchased at Make Fabric Boutique ❤️ I made it the same size as my last version - size 10 at the bust grading to a size 12 for the waist and hips, increased the bodice length by 2cm 🪡🧵 I made as few other adjustments to this version : I reduced the crotch length by approx 1” , and took a very small amount of width out of the legs. Always a last minute thing with me, not helped when the original invisible zip broke, so I had to unpick and add a new one. . This is The @helens__closet Lockhart dress. What a banger of a pattern, jumpsuit and dress and multiple length options all with superb instructions. I had to fit the bodice slightly, but it was minimal. Fabric is a viscose from @rainbowfabrickilburn

However, you can see it’s still not enough and I’m going to take another 3/4” horizontally out of the bust. That will be inches I have to take out in total, so if you are approximately my size, be warned ‼️ However I will persist because it will be a great dress when it fits right! 「lockhart dress」 I love this dress!! This was the first time I sewed a princess seam bodice and I definitely had to make a lot of adjustments to get a good fit but it didn’t feel tricky at any point! The instructions are fab, they hold your hand all the way, they are easy to understand and she even tells you when to check your fit! My version is made up as a size 14 graded into a 16 across the waist and hip. I’m always willing to sew up a classic summer dress and when Helen’s Closet ( Vancouver Island, Canada) had a sale recently I picked up the Lockhart dress and jumpsuit pattern. I have fallen deeply in love with this pattern, starting with reading Helen’s blog post and hacks. This is deceptively easy, although due to the fitted bodice I did have to go back into some seams and re-adjust, which I was prepared for. I also took the time to make sure my darts lined up with the princess seams. Hacks I made were fully lining the dress, not just the bodice , adjusting the pockets for a lined skirt,and adding side splits for movement and air on a hot summer day! I fully interfaced both main fashion fabric and lining ( Helen has done this on her lime green version so it’s supportive enough not to wear a bra) and I love the structure this adds to the bodice. I did a small bust adjustment ( following along to Lifting Pins and Needles SBA for Princess seams so I didn’t wing it, which I normally do:). That’s the only adjustment I made, then I did a bodice toile which did correspond to Helen’s pattern sizes. I haven’t made a Helen’s Closet pattern before and it was delightful to follow along to her instructions. I also have her Falconer Pants/jeans which I intend to sew in the fall. This is made in a linen/ rayon fabric which is divine and extremely lightweight, hence, interfacing both fashion and lining. The colour is a subject unto itself. I have not worn lilac since I was a girl but I decided this spring to push my colour palette outside of red, white, black and blue, my usual favourites! 100% I’ll be making this again in a black as a more elevated dinner dress/ jumpsuit. #helensclosetpatterns #helensclosetlockhart #sewover50june2025 #sewoverjune25 #isewmyownwardrobe #isewmyownclothes #bcsews

This is my full length #lockhartjumpsuit by @helens__closet The sun was a little too bright on attempt #2 to get photos, but I am dealing with a lot of childcare constraints the next couple weeks, and usually marathoning with kids during the golden hours of the day. I love the fit on this. My alterations were to add an inch to the crotch length. That inch wasn’t quite enough so I also let out the waist seam by half inch total. Also on my last version I had taken 1.25 inches off the straps and that was too much on this crisper fabric so I recut with a 3/4 inch reduction in length.
