knowing that we wouldn't be trick or treating or going to Halloween celebrations as usual last year, I opted to focus more on my little girl's costume rather than doing a big family costume. It’s actually surprising difficult to find the perfect Breton stripe fabric. Often the stripe width balance is off, the background colour is too dark or it’s not the right fabric type or content for what I want to make. In all my years sewing this is only the third time I’ve come across something that meets my perception of the perfect Breton stripe. And now that I’ve purchased, sewn and worn I’m happy to share that it’s from @fabricsgalorelondon search for “Dressmaking organic cotton jersey - navy and ecru Breton stripe” to find this exact fabric. Also mega cute rose patch from @heysewsister.co.uk I do like how it works with the stripes. This make filled a wardrobe gap for a Breton t-shirt, my other stripe tops being long sleeved. It also served as a wearable toile for the @papercutpatterns Solar Tee before I go crazy with sleeve ruffles! More pants! Now that I’ve started making pants, I can’t stop. These are the #fabricsstoresarapattern made in a narrow wale corduroy. This was my first pattern from the Fabrics Store (and it’s free!) so I decided to give myself a little extra room and cut a size bigger than my measurements. Turns out I didn’t need to do that and they were too big. That’s why I have 2 pleats in the front and I took some out of the back center seam also. I REALLY liked the tutorial for sewing a fly zipper and I’m so proud of how it came out. Since I ended up changing the pants around the waistline, I had to draft my own waistband. I made it a little curved and interfaced it. When I put the pants on, it was too snug. I removed that waistband and decided to cut one out on the bias and not interface it so it would give a little. I also inserted some elastic in the back waistband to cinch it in even more. Now it gives a bit too much and I felt like I had to keep pulling my pants up today. Pictures are interesting because I think they look like they fit well. Wearing them they feel a bit baggy but are very comfortable. On the top I’m wearing my newish me made #solartee from #papercutpatterns made out of the cutest and softest macarons print sweater fabric that I bought from Etsy. I get compliments every time I wear it. Project 25 of 2023- a @papercutpatterns Solar Sweatshirt. I love the colour and shape of this, but not sure if it’s a keeper due to the feel of the fabric. It’s a fleece back sweatshirting from @fabworksmillshop and it’s of no fault of the fabric’s, I just really should have ordered a sample first as I’m not loving the fleecy inside. Wore my new @maygibbsofficial Sweatshirt of Dreams under my #harlenedungarees today. I finished it late last night (needed to vacuum again today cos it’s so messy!) and don’t want to take it off! I used the @papercutpatterns #solarsweater cos I needed sleeve ruffles! This French terry from @spotlightstores doesn’t have much stretch, any really, so I can’t pull my sleeves up. Just a note if you want that to go up a size, it’s kinda like the ‘cotton jersey of the french terry family’, if you know what I mean! Very different to the @seeyouatsixfabric which is amazing for its stretch and recovery.
