Finally reworking the sleeves on my @papercutpatterns #nexusblouse. When I made it last month, I really didn’t like the way the cuffs sat because they opened at the underarm seam instead of having a placket and a more traditional placement for the closure. It both felt and looked really awkward to me. So today I took the cuffs off, closed the underarm seam the rest of the way, and marked and cut a slit. I then cut a couple strips of fabric from my scraps to make a simple continuous bound placket, and am now reattaching the cuffs. I think it’s going to be much better and probably should have done this a month ago!

Decided to choose the most outrageous rayon fabric at @spotlightstores yesterday... I mean it had sunflowers, how could I not! I made this @papercutpatterns nexus blouse today with a few changes. I added about 10cm to the sleeves and then added elastic instead of the cuffs. Yes indeed, adding a placket has made a big improvement in how these sleeves look and feel! I don’t know if anyone else would have noticed the strange positioning of the cuff (and plenty of people seem to have made this pattern without complaint!), but I knew it would bother me forever. I’m still not a huge fan of how large the cuffs are (both in terms of width and overlap) since my forearms taper pretty significantly and the cuffs are straight so it’s just kind of awkward in that area, but I can live with it! I do like the drapey, oversized fit of this blouse and it’s much more comfortable now that the cuffs aren’t twisting due to a weirdly placed closure. I finally wore my (heavily hacked) #NexusBlouse by @papercutpatterns for a meal out last night. And look! I made my own buttons!! The heavy hacking came in at the shoulders. I do love the loose and breezy fit of this top, but when I made it up in the original size it was MAHOOSIVE... tent-like, if you will 🤣 So I basically took the sleeves out, shortened the shoulder seams to about a third of their original size and took a little out of the side seam so the original sleeve would still fit back in. A muuuuuch better fit! I would like to point out that this is in no way Papercut's fault - it is mine because 1️⃣ I was so drawn to the button-up front and the fact you can wear this top either way round, I failed to see that this is intended to be an oversized top, and 2️⃣ I have the world's weakest, most shapeless shoulders 😆 they are truly pathetic, I can't even wear bardot-style tops as they just ping back up over my nothingness shoulders!! I made the buttons from some polymer clay I forgot I owned so did a little experimenting with colours and accidentally broke a glitter pot over them 😳. But I love how they've turned out! Inkeeping with the theme of not having researched this project properly, I have absolutely no idea how the buttons will wash.... I did give them a coat of clear sealant so hopefully they'll be okay.
