@papercutpatterns Twist pants in stretch denim from @wearethefabricstore . I made these based on my waist size, and they fit well except at the waist. Not sure what went wrong there. I used a verigated blue thread for the top stitching and love how it turned out. I will try these again by adding 1-2 inches to the back rise, then take out a wedge from the back seam to bring them in at the waist. If anyone has any tips on how to stop the pockets from pulling (I have seen this is an issue with this pattern) or about the weird lines at the back, it would be appreciated. @papercutpatterns Twist pants in a stretch satine from @spotlightstores This pair is the same size as my first, but I took a whopping 10cm out of the waist. Which is strange considering I made the size based on my waist. However now they fit much better. The pockets don't sit flat, but I can live with that. The Luovi design, by Aino-Maija Metsola in 2014, was part of the Sääpäiväkirja, or Weather Diary series. This print characterizes the ocean and its power. I couldn’t find a good picture, but there was a wonderful printed photo essay included with purchases of Marimekko when it was released. Please see slide 6 for an idea of the images. I didn’t make this top, but like so many, it’s a favorite. I try not to wear it too much because the cotton sateen isn’t terribly durable. My pants are the Twist pattern by Papercut Patterns. It’s hard to get a good photo of the lines, but the side seam construction is really cool. Trying to turn my frown upside down by attempting a new pants pattern. The #papercuttwistpants pants - a slim pants intended for stretch fabric where the side seam twists around to the front in a cute way, not a “this fabric is way off grain”-type way. You can see it in that front leg piece that gets so dramatically slimmer while the back leg does not. I fancy laying some piping along that seam. Did I finish the #papercutkyoto ? Yes! I made two and I adore them! But the temperature has jumped back to 90F/32Cso sweatshirts are OUT 😂 Maybe I’ll get to wear one with these nifty black denim pants! #sophmoresewing

Such a great night last night at @sydneyfrocktails seeing sewing friends old and new. I was very comfy in and proud of my pink suit and silk rayon blouse. When I started thinking about what to make for frocktails I decided I wanted to make something I'd wear again (although maybe not all together regularly). The pants are the Twist Pants from @papercutpatterns. I'd actually been planning to make these for a while in this fabric, which is a cheap poly cotton sateen from My Hung in Hurstville. The pattern was reasonably easy, although I raised the centre back and then took it in about an inch to get it to fit right as the waist/hip ratio is too straight. The blazer is the Bellatrix Blazer also from @papercutpatterns. I made it before years ago so it was reasonably straightforward - or at least as straightforward as making any sort of jacket can be. The one thing I didn't do was understitch the collar. I did make an attempt but honestly I think it's impossible to actually contort the pattern to get it through for understitching, let alone manage to sew neatly. The top was a very last minute make which I sewed up yesterday afternoon using a silk rayon remnant I'd had in my stash for close to a decade. as it's basically a square with a scoop for the neckline I didn't use a pattern. I was nervous cutting into the fabric and did need to do some neatening of my cutting lines but it sewed up remarkably well, with french seams to encase the raw edges. Loving my new @papercutpatterns #papercuttwistpants ! 🤍🤍🤍🤍 They came together quickly and the construction is so cool! . I made size 4, no mods. Might nip the waist in by about 3/4” next time. I used Gutermann topstitch heavy duty thread from my stash for the topstitching. It has a nice luster in person. The fabric is 10 oz. slubby stretch Italian denim - 98% cotton, 2% spandex. Here are 2 new pieces I’ve recently finished which I’m calling sewing fails. The top is the I Am Lion top again which isn’t as good as my last version which had everything to do with my fabric choice. It’s a Poly knit from Spotlight which has permacreases (plus I’m not sold on this colour for me). The pants are @papercutpatterns Twist pants in black velvet from @wearethefabricstore. Papercut #twistpants update! I like these pants - they’re a cute update on plain ol’ cigarette pants. That twisting side seam (that’s nearly impossible to see in black stretch denim) adds a certain something, indeed. They’re oddly too big and too small on me at the same time 😂. I had to pull in a lot of excess leg at both side seams (I winged it) but the pockets gape somewhat and the waist is too low in the back. You can’t really tell in these pics but there’s a fair amount of excess fabric in the front that I’m hoping to transfer to the boo-tay on the next pair. And while I love the idea of piping that curvy side seam, I wonder whether it’ll just call too much attention to parts of my legs I don’t wish to call attention to, or create a a weird optical illusion. We’ll see. I could pull in the sides even more but even though this fabric is preshrunk I bet it’ll tighten up more with another wash so I’m going to hem them and leave them be.
