Hi 👋 it’s been a while since my last post but life has been a little a lot recently 😅 Quick update on life - I’ve finally submitted my PhD, got a new job starting in July, have been catching up with some peeps, and am currently writing this from a resort in Portugal 😍 Showing a little #PrettyGuts sneak peak of my latest holiday make (and the only thing I managed to sew up hehe), the #PapercutPatterns #AuraDress 😊 I used a 1/4 inch beige gingham and it’s perfect for keeping the shape of the dress 🤍 it’s such a beautiful fabric! I am quite curious as to what it would look like using a more slinky fabric like viscose though, too. Of course I forgot to take a photo beforehand, so I had to wait for the official photos 🤦‍♀️ I had such a great time at Frocktails catching up with people, meeting Insta friends in real life, and meeting new people. It’s probably too hot for this make but I’m took my recently finished Aura skirt out for a spin. Pleased with the end product - I did a heap of hand stitching but I don’t really have the patience or skill for it. Made harder for myself by lining it. The panels are graded out to be size larger so there’s a bit more wrap coverage. It should have been shortened, the length is a bit awkward on a shorty like me - not quite midi, not quite maxi. Aura Wrap Dress Toile 🌼 as practice garments go, this is pretty darn good. . In the end I didn’t make any edits to this wearable Toile of the Aura Wrap Dress, but will make a few to the final dress. My intention is to wear the r final dress to a wedding and I have some really lovely fabric that I didnt want to cut into without being sure this was The One I had in mind. Plus I am going to commission some special embroidery for the sleeves so I really wanted to be sure the sleeve pattern pieces in particular was right before I committed to that. . Things I learned from making a Toile: - the fit overall was good for me, especially from a pattern designer I haven’t used before. - that this isn’t a garment for everyday wear given how revealing the skirt wrap is on sitting down. It’s fine for a party, less so for taking a bus or a work meeting. I may or may not adjust the line of the lines of the skirt for the final dress as it’s for a wedding, but for everyday wear it definitely needs a few more inches on the wrap. - I probably need a little tuck on the shoulder seam for better fit. - I can get away with the 3m x 150cm of fabric I have for the main dress and don’t need to buy more fabric: the fabric hide suggested I would need to. . Arguably I didn’t *need* to make a toile given how well this has turned out. But I’m glad I did. Bit easy because I have another dress to show for it! The fabric for the toile was given to me by a dear chum from Poland (both the chum and the fabric 😅) and it looks fab in this format. . Sharing my @papercutpatterns #auradress 😎🪡👗 My brother bought me this #ankarafabric at a fabric market a couple of years ago while he was traveling. Thank you @maddiewh !😘🥰I have a bit left over so I’m thinking of making him a shirt so that we can be matchy-matchy🤓🤩 I have a tendency to feel cold easily even in very comfortable temperatures, and I’ve discovered as I grow older that I can only leave my back uncovered in murderously hot weather🥵 As a result, spaghetti tops and other clothes that dip down in the back don’t get much use in my wardrobe, as much as I like how they look🥲 When I made the muslin for this dress, I decided that I would need to raise the back neckline in order to extend the season in which it would get worn. I did my usual square shoulder adjustment and a broad back adjustment, and I also graded up a size in the hips to provide a more substantial overlap. As you can see in the last two pictures, the skirt splits open until about mid thigh when I sit. I think this is perfectly decent, especially since I have to wear compression leggings every day, but I may find it uncomfortable and chose to wear something else on days when I plan to spend a lot of time seated (for instance in my wheelchair). . . . I went to my cousin’s wedding last night, and knew I wanted to make a dress for the special occasion. After lots of searching, I decided upon the Papercut Patterns Aura dress. I decided to make a toile first, and make a better one later….but it turns out I didn’t have to! It’s a wearable toile! It was my first time using Papercut Patterns and the instructions are great. I just wish the pattern had more inclusive sizing. As a RTW AUS 14 I was in the second largest size Pattern: @papercutpatterns Aura dress graded from the hip one size up so there was more coverage in the wrap. Fabric: rayon from Tanah Abang fabric market in Jakarta.

I finally get to match with @thats.sew.sandy and @fionaparker17 😜☺️ Sometimes I see someone's make and say I WANT THE EXACT SAME THING! @papercutpatterns Aura Dress @wearethefabricstore paprika linen Adjustments include - chopping off 10cm at hem - widening the front curve so I don't flash everyone - size 3 shoulders grading to 4 at bust and waist - removing 2cm from shoulders as the deep V off the back can make it slide off my narrow shoulders - adding bra strap fasteners into shoulder seams for extra security I avoided wrap styles as I found the always had gape, but lockdown has meant that I can make the adjustments I need to remove the gape. OFF TO MY NEXT WRAP DRESS!!!!

Making a New Year’s resolution to post more on Instagram then only getting round to starting midway through March feels very me. Anyway, here I am looking like I’ve just stepped off the front of a shortbread tin in a @papercutpatterns Aura dress that I made last month. Fabric is a Lady McElroy flannel that arrived in my @sewhayleyjane luxury box last month - this dress is deceptively snuggly. Love this frock, it won’t be my last. This is an Aura wrap dress by @papercutpatterns in a very fun print from @ladymcelroyfabrics . I love this pattern and am already working on my next one, but plan to make a few alterations - mainly to increase the amount that the wrap crosses over. I added pockets to this one and I think they're okay, but as is often the case with in seam pockets they do warp the side seams a bit if you actually put anything substantial in them. On my blog today is the @papercutpatterns Aura Dress sewn up in the most gorgeous soft gingham linen from @wearethefabricstore I 100% stole this fabric and pattern combo from @thats.sew.sandy - I could not resist when I saw her beautiful dress! I think this is going to be so perfect for summer weddings and all that socialising I’m hoping we’re going to do! I was expecting a bit of a battle with the fit of this dress as Papercut Patterns don’t tend to fit me straight off the bat but after grading between sizes (2 at the shoulder & bust, 3 at the waist and 4 at the hip) I found I didn’t need to do any more. I didn’t need to adjust the length at all (I’m 5ft 3 so usually need to shorten the body and overall length) and even that wrap front sits perfectly flat. I am so comfortable in this dress and love everything about it! It was a nice project to get stuck into whenever I could carve out a little bit of time at the sewing machine over the busy last few weeks. Some people have a me-made wedding; I have a me-made PhD thesis defence 🎉👩🏻‍🎓 Dress is @papercutpatterns Aura dress made using a beautiful cotton-linen blend I picked up in New York. I also made some crochet flowers as gifts for my thesis supervisors (who are the best) and my examiners. The bows around the bouquets are made from the same fabric as my dress! The hat was made for me by my friend Steph to celebrate becoming a doctor. This is my first time making a toile, I'm usually too impatient to bother, but after reading about some variations in fit people had with the shoulders, I thought I better had before cutting into my Liberty Linen ! This is the @papercutpatterns #auradress My measurements are B36, W27, H38 for the pattern this meant I was a B3/4, W3, H3/4. My chest was definitely closer to a size 4 but I decided to size down with hopes that this would fix the shoulder slipping others had experienced (and I have quite narrow shoulders), I went for a size 3 at the waist and graded out to a 4 at the hip (again I had read others had found the wrap to be a bit risqué!) I'm 5ft 4 and decided to keep the length and sleeve length unaltered. I also did a blind hem on the facing and the hem as my hand stitching leaves a lot to be desired 😅 I'm glad I did the toile, as its unheard of for me to size down on the breast but I'm glad I did. Next time I think I'll make the ties slightly longer and I may even size up to a 5 at the hip for more of a wrap over but I will know more once I've worn it out and about. I picked this linen look up for £10, so it's my cheapest memade garment yet and it's one of my faves! The Aura Dress by @papercutpatterns 🌸 Life has been crazy recently, and finding the time+energy to sew this month has felt a bit like trying to chase my shadow 😅 So#handmadenovember hosted by the amazing @sleepless_in_bavaria really came through at the perfect moment 💜 Taking part has been a great way to get reacquainted with some past makes, and whilst I’ll continue to be a proud member of the WFH sweatpants crew 🙈 it’s definitely felt good this month to get dressed with more intention. Today’s #auradress is not a new make, but it’s a much loved one - I call it the ‘happy dress’ because I love the fabric and silhouette, and I always feel good wearing it. Pattern Notes: - I found that the pattern as drafted was perfect for standing in, but risky when sitting down since the wrap doesn’t cover all that much 😬 I wanted to keep the lovely curved design of the wrap front but increase coverage, so I created two separate pattern pieces for the overlap and underlap. Kept the overlap dress piece + facing as-is, and added an extra 4” of width to the underlap dress piece and corresponding facing. That did the trick, and now I can sit down without fear 😁 - My bust measurement falls right between Size 2 and 3 on Papercut’s sizing chart, so I cut a 3 and used a 5/8” seam allowance for the shoulder/side seams until the waist notch, where I graded out to a 4 and moved back to the pattern’s 3/8” seam allowance. Fabric is a gorgeous viscose linen from @fabricgodmother . Aura Wrap Dress Toile 🌼 as practice garments go, this is pretty darn good. . In the end I didn’t make any edits to this wearable Toile of the Aura Wrap Dress, but will make a few to the final dress. My intention is to wear the r final dress to a wedding and I have some really lovely fabric that I didnt want to cut into without being sure this was The One I had in mind. Plus I am going to commission some special embroidery for the sleeves so I really wanted to be sure the sleeve pattern pieces in particular was right before I committed to that. . Things I learned from making a Toile: - the fit overall was good for me, especially from a pattern designer I haven’t used before. - that this isn’t a garment for everyday wear given how revealing the skirt wrap is on sitting down. It’s fine for a party, less so for taking a bus or a work meeting. I may or may not adjust the line of the lines of the skirt for the final dress as it’s for a wedding, but for everyday wear it definitely needs a few more inches on the wrap. - I probably need a little tuck on the shoulder seam for better fit. - I can get away with the 3m x 150cm of fabric I have for the main dress and don’t need to buy more fabric: the fabric hide suggested I would need to. . Arguably I didn’t *need* to make a toile given how well this has turned out. But I’m glad I did. Bit easy because I have another dress to show for it! The fabric for the toile was given to me by a dear chum from Poland (both the chum and the fabric 😅) and it looks fab in this format. . #mmm2024 Une robe pour commencer le #memademay2024 🤞😜 J1, Voici un modèle de @papercutpatterns , la #auradress réalisée dans une déclinaison de velours milleraies imprimés en fond blanc et beige. Concernant les tissus, rien à dire niveau qualité, ils sont fins et doux, assez souples et les motifs plutôt délicats, ils ont été achetés chez @bemercerine (un vrai lieu de perdition😈). Pour le patron, j’adore le cache-cœur et les manches, mais je dois avouer que je ne suis pas 100%à l’aise avec le décolleté, mais bon, j’ai trouvé la parade en enfilant un petit caraco à dentelle en dessous, au cas où ça baillerait. 💨🌬️ Côté jupe, j’aime aussi la longueur et l’arrondi en haut ainsi que la ceinture à nouer par dessus, mais en marchant, l’ouverture est là aussi, très (trop) échancrée. Donc, la parade, là, c’est le cycliste porté en dessous. Bref, j’aime le modèle mais je ne le trouve pas hyper confortable et je ne sais pas si je le referai. Channeling Spring vibes even if the Scottish weather isn’t playing ball 🌱🌦 - - - This skirt was made a month or so ago and once finished I wasn’t 100% sure I liked it, partly due to the fitting issues I’d had making it which totally threw me. I initially cut out my usual size and, on trying it on, found that the front wrap sections only just met meaning my underwear would be making a regular appearance ~ luckily I had just enough fabric left to squeeze out a size up so all was not lost - that’ll teach me for not reading finished measurements etc. properly and just winging it. AURA DRESS // I made a birthday dress. I’ve been eyeing up this pattern by @papercutpatterns for a while, and I’m really happy with the final result! After doing a bit of research on how others have found the fit, I decided to widen the inner panel of the wrap skirt, to give some more coverage. Worked a treat, I felt very comfortable and confident swanning around my house during my little bday gathering.
