My @papercutpatterns Estella Dress went on holiday to Croatia 🌊 This floaty pattern is perfect for a hot holiday by the sea. I went for the skirt and top variation for versatility, which hopefully means I can get more wear out if it in not-so-hot London. The pattern was easy to follow; I made the skirt super quickly, and spent a bit more time on the top. The linen is from @simplyfabricsbrixton.

💐 Gingham Estella 💐 I have been *desperate* to make the @papercutpatterns Estella ever since I picked her up at @thestitchfestival earlier this year. I adore the silhouette, even before you come to consider the versatility of the design! Estella comes with both dress and seperates options. I went for seperates as then the mix and match options are better. The skirt is a really straight forward ruffle skirt. The top is where the real fun begins as you can wear it three ways! You can have a wrap front or bow front (the latter is a bit low for me - will save that for the beach!), and then you can reverse the blouse for a boat neck front and low V neckline in the back, completed with a lovely bow. I can't wait to make loads more of these over the summer as well as have a go at the dress! I made no alterations to the pattern at all and am really thrilled with it. The fabric is a gorgeous purple gingham from @minervadotcom - super stable and easy to work with, nice and structured for those puffy sleeves, and the perfect fabric for a cute little spring/summer outfit like this. I made the bag with scraps using the #pisabowbag pattern from @kateevadesigns - is there a cuter way to finish an outfit?? Rainbow star! Is there a better print for this in between weather? This is deadstock fabric from - yes - @rainbowfabrickilburn They did just did another drop and I managed to resist because I still have so much in my stash from them. Their deadstock viscoses are the best! I made it into the @papercutpatterns Estella dress. This is a multi-way dress. I’ve made it before and can say that I wear it this way 99% of the time - but it’s good to have options. Changed I made this time was to double face the tie and I took the neckline in by 1cm either side and it doesn’t fall off anymore. Yay! I got this midi length out of 3 mtrs and made their size 4. While I didn’t quite pattern match I had to be sure the stars were in line and if it was a row of white at the front then it was much the same at the back. I put a little label in the side instead of the back because there’s no official back in this. And I would style it with my black @tillybuttons Sonny jacket and a cross body bag. I am planning a chambray Sonny jacket this summer because I have worn my black one so much. It’s perfect for over dresses - and that’s my vibe! If you look closely, you can see a haze of covid circling around my head waiting to absolutely ruin my annual leave 🦠 This is the Papercut Patterns Estella dress in mustard double gauze. It’s a pretty fun pattern to sew, as there are no zips or buttons which is nice, although there are plenty of elastic bits, and it can be tied lots of different ways. I really like the version with the big bow on the back but it is not bra friendly! Anyway, it’s a cute summery dress, a bit Cottagecore, and you can smuggle lots of popcorn into the cinema in the sleeves which is all I need in a dress tbh 🍿

Thank you to @sewover50 for hosting the #sewoverageism2023 challenge 💚 When I was in my teens and my twenties I, like most others I'm sure(!), didn't notice how few 'older' ladies were represented in the media. Apparently girls over 30 were only good for selling anti ageing creams and hair dye. Actresses over 40 were now the mother or the wife of the lead actor, rather than the leading lady. The sewing community is a very inclusive place overall. It's not perfect, but it isn't bad. However, there's still a way to go! This challenge highlighted that perfectly. I have very few patterns featuring anybody that looks over 45. But I do have Estella by @papercutpatterns which features this beautiful lady wearing the midi dress version. I've made the dress before, and so went for separates this time 😊 🧵 Pattern: #Estelladress dress/skirt/top by Papercut patterns (2 size bands available, max hip 63.7")* 🧵 Fabric: Blades textured Cotton Linen fabric in Khaki green 🧵 Bias binding fabric: Minerva exclusive viscose challis - darling daisies 📏 I made a size 4 last time and I'm happy with the fit, so I made the same size again, this time to suit measurements 34.5/28/40.5". Since my bust measurement is closer to size 3, when I was doing French seams, I used a seam allowance closer to 1.5cm rather than the 1cm the pattern calls for. So it's a little smaller than a size 4. I'm 5"3 and short in the leg so I took a chunk of length out of the main body of the skirt. About 10-15cm. I cut the ties and the ruffle on the crossgrain. This saves quite a bit of fabric length and also allowed me to make the ties a little longer. I find that when I tie them behind my back, they make a small bow and I wanted the tails to be a bit longer this time. I could have gone even longer to be fair! This month we're sharing the Stonemountain Spotlight on staff-made projects using our favorite cotton twills from Robert Kaufman Fabrics! Molly made the #PapercutEstella and a self-drafted skirt in Kobe – Cotton Twill – Burgundy. “I like that Kobe Twill has a nice drape, but still retains some structure. It also has a subtle sheen, which makes the fabric a little more dressy. I started with the Estella Dress pattern. I shortened the sleeves and changed the skirt from a rectangle to a 3/4 circle, then added a little ruffle edge along the bottom of the skirt to mimic the gathers on the sleeves. I wear a lot of dresses, but because of the fabric I chose, this one leans more formal. ESTELLA ~ To say that I LOVE this dress and that there will be many more to come is just an understatement! I am just in love with the fact that I have 2 dresses in 1! As a very busy mum, who works full time, this is all @papercutpatterns had to tell me 😅! I love each dress and I cannot wait to make my next version! The patterns instructions were great, even where you have to sew the elastic around the sleeves. I would not say it is a beginner project just because of this particular step, but if you can understand that part then the rest of the pattern is quite easy to sew to be honest. Three months later! I made this @papercutpatterns Estella dress back in March for #sewyellowforendo23 and haven’t got a chance to wear it until recently. I don’t believe in a summer and winter wardrobe, I believe in tights and cardigans but this is one of the only dresses that I can’t do that with so I had to wait til the good weather. It was worth it! I love this and it’s so different for me, both in terms of construction and drama. I made a size 4 and it fits perfectly everywhere except the shoulders where I would need to bring it in a bit. I love how it came together, it’s a head scratcher and then it all just slots into place. I’m wearing it here with the tie bit at the back two ways - tell me which you prefer? I don’t think I’ll wear it the other way around but you never know. Fabric is @minervadotcom exclusive viscose challis. I had 3 mtrs and I think the pattern said you need less than 2.5 for the size I made but I used almost all of it. It’s the first time I’ve used more than the pattern said and when I looked it up it’s because they give you the cutting lay out on one layer. Which is great for the environment etc but let’s be honest as to how many of us do that! Sewed up a couple weeks ago before I went on holiday, but I’ve playing about with different combos today in front of the camera for #memademay. The Estella Skirt from @papercutpatterns. I’ll be making the matching top as soon as I get my hands on some additional fabric I need for the sleeves. An incredibly quick sew with an easy to work with linen. My @papercutpatterns Estella Dress went on holiday to Croatia 🌊 This floaty pattern is perfect for a hot holiday by the sea. I went for the skirt and top variation for versatility, which hopefully means I can get more wear out if it in not-so-hot London. The pattern was easy to follow; I made the skirt super quickly, and spent a bit more time on the top. The linen is from @simplyfabricsbrixton.

I'm currently in between jobs and I've been sewing like a maniac. Really stoked with my third Estella skirt and top by Paparcut Patterns. I'll post the other two at some point too 😅 This time I decide to make separates as they will be more versatile, although I'm still not convinced about the crop top. Three months later! I made this @papercutpatterns Estella dress back in March for #sewyellowforendo23 and haven’t got a chance to wear it until recently. I don’t believe in a summer and winter wardrobe, I believe in tights and cardigans but this is one of the only dresses that I can’t do that with so I had to wait til the good weather. It was worth it! I love this and it’s so different for me, both in terms of construction and drama. I made a size 4 and it fits perfectly everywhere except the shoulders where I would need to bring it in a bit. I love how it came together, it’s a head scratcher and then it all just slots into place. I’m wearing it here with the tie bit at the back two ways - tell me which you prefer? I don’t think I’ll wear it the other way around but you never know. Fabric is @minervadotcom exclusive viscose challis. I had 3 mtrs and I think the pattern said you need less than 2.5 for the size I made but I used almost all of it. It’s the first time I’ve used more than the pattern said and when I looked it up it’s because they give you the cutting lay out on one layer. Which is great for the environment etc but let’s be honest as to how many of us do that! My Christmas dress this year is the @papercutpatterns #estelladress made in a subtle Christmas prints from @materialdifference.com.au. It was a quick dress to sew as I’ve made it before, and I omitted the pockets and bottom frill (which I think I’ll add back on soon). The cotton is a good quality and has some oompf to it which meant the sleeves held their shape beautifully. Here is a finished @papercutpatterns Estella dress which I made over the Christmas break in rayon from @spotlightstores. I was drawn to the clever versatility of this design when Papercut released their new patterns late last year, and purchased it very quickly. I made a size 4 based on my current measurements, but would look at sizing down if I make it again. It was an enjoyable garment to make, and loved how it came together. I did make some silly mistakes like cutting skirt panels the same size (not piece A and B) which resulted in the main panel being shorter than drafted, so I lengthened the ruffle 😀. When I wore the dress today, I noticed the pockets made the hip area look wider so I’m going to remove them before I wear it again. I also felt like the sleeves were tugging at my elbows/ back upper arm area which is due to the way the sleeve is constructed. I was also conscious of the fact my bra strap might be showing, so I may also sew in the little strap thingos. Overall I do like this dress and I think it works well in a light fabric such as Rayon #finaldressof2021#estelladress#papercutestelladress#handmade#sewedanotherdress
